These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

A1MU Trouble Shooting (Audio)
No Sound from Media Box
Replace or Check each signal path has no sound as below.
Analog RF Main 
Replace QT board or check signal path from CN102 #4,#6 to IC102 #22,#23
Digital RF Main
Replace QM board or check signal path from CN103 #2,#4 to IC102 #28,#29.
Analog RF Sub
Check signal path from TU100 #25 to IC102 #25,#26.
CVBS
Check each signal path (from J100 to IC102 #1-8).
Component
Check each signal path (from J102,J103 to IC102 #10-14).
HDMI
Check signal path from CN101 #6,#7 to IC102 #16,#17.
These symptom might be related A1MU board.
Red LED flashing 4 times (FAN error)
-Check connection CN004 and FAN connector or replace FAN itself.
-IC003, IC004 (FAN Reg), IC009 (FAN control DAC) might be broken or not operate correctly.
Control-S does not work
-Check connection CN002 and CSMU connector.
-Check circuit around Q001-Q007.
No Center speaker
-IC100, IC400 and around circuit might be broken or not operate correctly.
No SubWoofer
-Check circuit from IC402 #33,#34 to J400.
No RF picture (Snow noise) in good signal condition
-Check connection CN605 and ANT-SW connector.
-Check power supply (9V/5V) to ANT-SW or replace ANT-SW itself.
M1MU Trouble Shooting
Symptom might be related M1MU board.
-Strange Menu OSD or Lack of upper side in Media Viewer mode.
-Check connector CN7650 (LVDS Connector to QM).
-Check connector CN7552 and CN7553(B to B connector to DIC3).
-IC7650 (LVDS Receiver) might be broken or not operate correctly.
No Sub Picture
-IC7701 (CCPX) or path to IC7701 might be broken or not operate correctly.
-Closed Caption Decode error in good signal condition
-IC7002 (TV Micro) or path to IC7701 might be broken or not operate correctly.
No PC Picture
-Check connector CN7400 (connector to H1MU).
-IC7404(ADC) or path to IC7701 might be broken or not operate correctly.
PD Board (HDMI Input).
Possible faults
No power
- CN9504(Power supply, I2C, etc.) connection or cable damage.
No picture and No sound
- PS9500 might be open.
- IC9507 / CN9500 / CN9501 (TMDS area) might be broken.  => Replace PD Board.
- IC9504 / IC9518 (EDID Data) might be broken or not operate correctly.
No picture (or Greenish picture / Pinkish picture). But sound is OK.
- CN9502 connection or cable damage.
Possible Claim about connectivity
Aspect Ratio (at 480i or 480p)
If mistaken data is sent by Source device, Q005 will mistake judgment of Aspect Ratio.
Greenish picture / Pinkish picture
If mistaken data is sent by Source device, Q005 will mistake judgment of YCbCr/RGB.  
In this case, picture seems Greenish or Pinkish.
No sound
If Dolby Digital or DTS Digital audio is mistakenly sent by Source device, Q005 can not output sound.
Q005 supports only L-PCM.
=> Those case are not [PD] board broken.
Those claims are the cause of combination between Q005 and Source Device (DVD player, STB etc.).
Digital Module (QM/QT/QI/QUMU/QH board)
This TV can receive scrambled signal with “CableCARD”.
• TV can receive basic digital programs with contract
• High Definition programs may be provided.
• No Pay-Per-View
• No EPG
• No interactive services (PVR etc…)
• These are required Bi-directional system. But Bi-directional standard is not ready yet.
• “CableCARD” Previously it was called “POD”.
– CARD is provided by cable companies with contract.
– Physical shape is PCMCIA type I/II.
– TV have “CableCARD” slot on the rear panel.
– Customer receive the CARD and insert to TV.
With CableCARD, Channel numbering is same as normal cable box dose.
– No auto-programing required. (CH info. Will come through coax. RF cable.)
Connection failure
• Set no power, no boot up
– QM CN7300 connection or cable damage.
– QM CN7307 – QT CN7902 connection or cable damage
– QM CN7308 – QT CN7900 connection or cable damage
• No DTV and No Memorystick. But NTSC is OK.
– QM CN7342(LVDS-Video) connection or cable damage.
• No DTV. But Memorystick and NTSC is OK.
– QM - QT40Pin FFC connection or cable damage.
• No DTV and No NTSC. But Memorystick is OK.
– RF cable (F-F) or ANT-SW 5pin wire connection or cable damage.
– QT CN7302 connection or cable damage
• No NTSC. But DTV and Memorystick is OK.
– QT CN7901 is connection or cable damage.
• No menu OSD. But Memorystick mode is OK.
– CN7302 or CN7304 connection or cable damage.
• Memorystick is not detected by insertion.
– USB connection or cable damage.
• Only no Digital cable video/audio with POD(CableCARD).  ATSC is OK.
– RF cable (P-P) or 80Pin FFC connection or cable damage. Or POD connector.

• ATi:QM IC7300 chip failure
– Reboot (intermittent video)
– Distorted graphics (block noise error on Menu or Memorystick)

– No power (cannot see heart beat LED from jig CN. But can see one of QT LED.)

– No Audio. Distorted audio. No NTSC video.

– No NTSC, No ATSC, No D-Cable.
• Digital demodulator:QT TU7901 failure.
– No DTV(ANT, Cable)
– May not boot the system.
• i.LINK(80/40pin BtoB CN or i.CES:QI IC601 or QFP IC:QI IC802) failure.
– No i.LINK (D-VHS, DV)

DIC3 Board
“DIC” stand for Digital Imaging Core and DIC3 board means the 3rd generation of DIC Board. DIC3 Board is one of WEGA Engine HD. This module works for A/D convert of the Video signal, Digital signal processor, High Definition resolution convert, Noise reduction, improve fine picture, High efficiency i-p convert, and Multi screen Display function.

Repair for DIC3 Board
It is difficult to check the waveform for DIC3 Board because DIC3 board is located inside the DM block.
• Especially B-side of the DIC3 Board, it is not possible to check the signal waveform condition with assembled as Unit.
• Explain about voltage or confirmation point for trouble shooting.
• This trouble shooting information, the point of view is “it caused by DIC3 board or not” for replacement DIC3 Board.
The power supply for DIC3 Board
The followings are the power voltage supply to the DIC3 Board.
If no/incorrect supply these voltage, DIC3 Board does not work correctly.
Each power line is used IC Link to protect the device when the circuit gets overcurrent caused by load short.
Create 1.8V/1.25V/1.2V power voltage from SUB6.5V/SW3.3V/SW2.5V inside the DIC3 Board.
The followings are the power supply to create it inside the DIC3 Board.
DIC3 Board does not work correctly if no/incorrect these voltages.
Create D1.2V/D1.25V/D1.8V by DC-DC converter.
Create A1.8V by the series Regulator.
Trouble Shoot for DIC3 Board
Symptom
No picture, no sound
No re-action by the Power SW turn OFF/ON, also no OSD when push the menu.
Outputs Video output signal <Check points>
1) Check each voltage is supplyed correctly and no open the IC Link. →No supply voltage from outside of the DIC3, it is not DIC3 board failure. →Open the IC Link, or incorrect power voltage created on the DIC3 Board, it maybe DIC3 Board failure.
2) Confirm input IIC signal from M1MU Board (41pin/42pin of the CN4003) →If it is incorrect input, remove CN4003 but still incorrect sigan from M1MU Board. It is not DIC3 Board failure. →If it is incorrect input, remove CN4003 then output correct signal from M1MU Board. It maybe failure CN4003 or DIC3 Board.
3) Confirm output IIC signal from DIC3 Board (JL4000:SCL、JL4001:SDA) →If it outputs incorrect signal, it maybe DIC3 Board failure.
4) Confirm output H/V sync, CLK signal from DIC3 Board. (CLK(QUALIA:74.1758MHz): A4pin of CN4202 H sync(33.75kHz):JL9003 of the T1MJ Board、V sync(60Hz):R4254) 
> If it outputs incorrect signal, it maybe DIC3 Board failure. <For Repair> Replace DIC3 Board (Board replacement).
The picture appear/disappear depends on the input or picture mode. Or displays abnormal picture. OSD displays correctly. The sound sounds fine.
Check points
1) Enter Picture adjustment function from the menu, then Select Direct ON/OFF after set up as picture mode” Pro”. (480i/1080i only) →By this operation, If the picture still appeare/disappeare, it maybe DIC3 Board failure.
2) Enter Picture adjustment function from the menu, Select Direct OFF after set up as picture mode” Pro” then, select mode1/mode2 of the DRC-MF mode.(480i/1080i only) →By this operation, If the picture still appeare/disappeare, it maybe DIC3 Board failure.
For Repair: Replace DIC3 Board (Board replacement)
Trouble Shoot for DIC3 Board
Symptom
No display for HDMI input signal only
Check points 
1) Confirm output signal from PD Board correctly. →If output signal is incorrect, it is not DIC3 Board failure. 
2) Confirm LVDS harness (CN9502 on PD Board – CN4201 on DIC3 Board) is fine. No damage, no loose connecter. *At this moment, confirm LVDS harness does NOT connect to CN4200.
For Repair  If the LVDS harness gets some damages, replace LVDS harness. If the check point 1) or 2) does not match to resolve symptom, it maybe DIC3 Board failure.
Symptom
No OSD when push the menu.
CH selection / Sound Volume setting works.
Displays the picture on the screen.
Check points
1)Confirm output H/V sync, CLK signal for OSD from DIC3 Board to M1MU Board. (V sync(60Hz):2pin of the CN4002、H sync(28.2kHz):3 pin of the CN4002、 CLK(40MHz):4 pin of the CN4002)
 If output signal is incorrect, it is not DIC3 Board failure.
2)Confirm input H/V sync, CLK signal for OSD from M1MU Board. (CLK(40MHz):37pin of the CN4002 、H sync(28.2kHz):38pin of the CN4002、 V sync(60Hz):39pin of the CN4002)
If input signal is incorrect; it is not DIC3 Board failure.
If input signal is correct, it maybe DIC3 Board failure.
For Repair  Replace DIC3 Board (Board replacement).

Purpose for Interface between
Media Box-Display
• 2 aspect 1 aspect conversion (60bit→30bit conversion)
• DVI signal transmission conversion

Signal detection
No signal detection For Input signal detection, detect by Horizontal/Vertical sync signal. (TVM)
Signal Search
Measure the FH/FV by IFP frequency counter
Detect Sync polarity by IC7401
Searching matched above condition signal from TDT.(WEM).
Trouble Shooting
Symptom
No picture with “CHANGE INPUT SIGNAL” message.
Picture displays abnormal.
Cause
Input unsupported signal.
Treatment
Setting for PC output signal to supported signal refer to the owner’s manual.
Change it from “Screen property” if it is used Windows O/S.
Symptom
No picture with “NO INPUT SIGNAL” message.
Cause
Failure of the no signal detection circuit or no sync signal until the detection circuit.
Treatment Confirm the signal output from the PC. In case of Laptop PC, it needs setting for external output. Confirm the sync signal at CN7400,8・10 pin on the M1MU board. If there is no signal, possible loose connector. Confirm the circuit around IC7400.
Symptom
Different resolution when connect Laptop PC.
Cause
It is possible to happen when set the mirror mode.
*Mirror mode:the function of displaying the same resolution between external output and Laptop PC screen.
Treatment
In case of using the mirror mode, it does not match external output as Laptop PC screen.
Change the resolution setting for external output only mode.
*It is possible to change it by Fn+F7 button.
Self-diagnosis (Error status overview for Box) [LED Blinking Codes]
Temp Error (Red Flashes 2 times)
This indicates high temperature inside set. LM75 in A1MU & H1MU is sensing temp. Check these connections if temp error happens normal temp condition.
Fan Error (Red Flashes 4 times)
This indicates FAN is stopping or harness is not connected correctly. FANs are controlled by TV micro and it indicates FAN error. Check FAN is moving and connection if it happens this error. Note that FAN is started to move after about 15 second TV on.
Low B Error (Red Flashes 6 times)
This indicates 5V or 3.3V generated in A1MU is not output correctly. TV micro indicates this error. If 5V or 3.3V are not output, repair A1MU. If it is output, confirm connection with M1MU.
D-OVP Error (Red Flashes 8 times)
This indicates OVP error for local DC/DC converter. OVP flag from A1MU are merged and TV micro detect it when OVP happens. Replace A1MU boards in case of the error.
Panel Error (Red Flashes 9 times)
This indicates panel error that is given by DE micro to TV micro.  Check panel module.
Cable Error (Umber Flashes)
This indicates cable error.
Check connection of a DVI cable and a MDR cable
