These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

TROUBLE SHOOTING SOFTWARE UPDATE AND POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT 

TROUBLE SHOOTING
VFD DOES NOT DISPLAY OR NO BOOTING WHEN YOU TURN ON THE POWER BUTTON
VFD does not display or no booting problem occurs when you power on the BD player.
IC301
Solution
Please check and replace IC301 on MAIN board.
How to troubleshoot 
1) Please check 5.3 VA of C213 (CN201).
Please check 3.3 VA of IC208 pin1.
2) Check the 1.2 V, 1.5 V, 3.3 V.
If 1.2 V, 1.5 V, 3.3 V voltage doesn’t come out,
check P_CON_5.3V1 (IC301 pin33) and P_CON_5.3L1 (IC301 pin32).
> If you figure out those power control doesn’t come out any signal level (or voltage), please replace IC301 of MAIN board.
3) If X301 does not oscillate as the frequency of 12 MHz, first, check X301 and then replace IC301.
4) After changing it, if the set is still not booting, check MPEG IC(IC500).
After changing it, if VFD is not displayed, check SMPS power (-29VA, FD+, FD-).
NO BOOTING WHEN YOU TURN ON THE POWER BUTTON
When you turn on your BD-P, it will display “Hello” message continuously on front panel, and it will not boot-up normally.
IC601, IC602
Solution
Please check and replace IC601, IC602 on MAIN board.
How to troubleshoot 
1) please check 1.5 V of C651.
2) If 1.5 V voltage doesn’t come out, check P_CON_5.3V1 of IC301.
> If you figure out those power control doesn’t come out any signal level (or voltage), please replace IC301 of MAIN board.
3) Check DDR3_VREF of C619, DDR3_VREF must be 0.75 V.
If DDR3_VREF is not 0.75 V, check the R581 and R582.
4) If the set is still not booting, check DDR IC (IC601, 602).
NO BOOTING WHEN YOU TURN ON THE POWER BUTTON
When you turn on your BD-P, it will display “Hello” message continuously on front panel, and it will not boot-up normally.
X501, IC500
Solution
Please check and replace X501, IC500 on MAIN board.
How to troubleshoot 
1) Please check the soldering status of 27 MHz crystal (X501).
2) Please check the frequency of 27 MHz crystal (X501).
3) If the crystal doesn’t oscillate, replace X501.
4) After changing it, if the set is still not booting, check MPEG IC (IC500).
NO BOOTING WHEN YOU TURN ON THE POWER BUTTON
When you turn on your BD-P, it will display “Hello” message continuously on front panel, and it will not boot-up normally.
IC603
Solution
Please check and replace IC603 on MAIN board.
How to troubleshoot 
1) Please check the IC603 on your eyes.
2) Check the /CE signal of pin9 of IC603.
First, If the /CE signal is not operating normally during booting, try to change IC603.
3) After changing it, if the set is still not booting, check MPEG IC (IC500) or DDR IC.
AUDIO OUTPUT IS SMALL OR NO AUDIO OUTPUT
When disc is played, audio signal is small or audio output is not.
IC805
Solution
Please check and replace IC603 on MAIN board.
How to troubleshoot
1) Please check the IC805 on your eyes.
2) Check the 1.2VRMS level of pin20 of IC805.
If the 1.2VRMS is OK, check C806 (VBIAS).
3) If the set is still no audio output, try to change IC805.
NO CONNECTION WHEN YOU TRY TO OPERATE NETWORK CONTENTS
When you connect YouTube , BD-live or Netflix, the “no connection“ message appears.
JK805
Solution
Please check and replace JK805 on MAIN board.
How to troubleshoot 
1) Please check the ethernet Jack (JK805) on your eye.
2) If there is no soldering problem, replace JK805.
3) After changing it, if the set is still NG, check MPEG IC (IC500).
SHOWING BAD COLOR, NO OUTPUT OR MIXED COLOR ON THE SCREEN USING HDMI
When BD player is connected the TV using HDMI, picture shows bad color, no output or mixed color on the screen. But component output is OK.
JK803
Solution
Please check and replace JK803 on MAIN board.
How to troubleshoot 
1) Please check JK803, RA801, RA802 on your eyes.
2) If JK803, RA801, RA802 pins shorted because of solder problem, unsolder and remove shorted point.
3) If there is no soldering problem, replace JK803.
4) After changing it, if the set is still NG, check MPEG IC (IC500).
NO CONNECTION WHEN YOU TRY TO OPERATE NETWORK CONTENTS WITH WIRELESS
When you connect You-tube , BD-live or Netflix through the wireless,
the “no connection” message appears.
WiFi Module
Solution
Please check and replace WiFi module on FRONT board.
How to troubleshoot 
1) Please check the WiFi module on your eye.
2) If there is no soldering problem, replace WiFi module.
3) After changing it, if the set is still NG, check MPEG IC (IC500).
In case of BD670/BD690, check USB hub IC (IC902)
HDD IS NOT OPERATING
When you try to contact with HDD, HDD is not recognized.
IC901, HDD module
Solution
Please check and replace IC901 on MAIN board and HDD.
How to troubleshoot 
1) Please check the power of HDD module (5 V,12 V).
2) If there is no power, replace HDD module.
3) After changing it, if the HDD operation is still NG, check SATA Bridge (IC901)
SOFTWARE UPGRADE
# Burn a DVD recordable disc or USB with a file that is named to “LG_BD_6100B33.ROM”.
# Insert a upgrading disc or USB.
# Show help message for disc upgrade as follows.
< in the case of Back End program & Front End program >

Press play key to upgrade and it will show progress information
After completing upgrade then power is off.
NETWORK UPDATE
You can update the firmware by connecting your unit device directly to the S/W update server.
Configuring Network Settings
To update the firmware by connecting your player directly to the S/W update server, your player must be connected to network. If your player is not connected to network, make a physical connection.
1) Press Home on the Remote Control.
2) Press or to select the Setup mode.
3) Select Others --> Software Update
4) On the UPDATE window, press or ENTER to check for the newest update. (Checking will takes about one minute.)
Caution:
Pressing Enter while checking for the update will end process
If newer version exists,
5) If newer version exists, the message
“A new update was found. Do you want to download it?” appears. Select OK to download the update. (Selecting CANCEL will end the update.)
6) The player starts downloading the newest update from the SBP server.
7) When downloading is completed, the message,
“Download is complete. Do you want to update?” appears.
8) Select OK to start updating
9) Update will be processed
Caution :
Do not turn off the power during firmware update.
10) When update is completed, the message, “Update is complete.” will appear, and the power will turn off automatically after 5 seconds.
11) Turn the power back on. The system now operates with the new version.
