These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Update to Latest Firmware AV7005

This step shows you how to update your receiver to latest firmware before starting the upgrade.

Update from the OnScreen Menu (Press the MENU key on the RC or on your receiver)

(1) Select ‘Manual Setup’.

(2) Select ‘Option Setup’.

(3) Select ’Firmware Update’.

(4) Select ’Check for Update’ Press Enter.
(5) Your receiver is connecting the server.
(6) Shows if update is available and download time.

(7) Select ‘Update’ Press Enter.

(8) Select ‘Yes’ Press Enter.

(9) Starting update…The OnScreen Menu shuts down automatically.

(10) The front display shows updating status. Your receiver will reboot automatically when finished. Please do not turn off your receiver during update. Update may take longer than estimated download time.

Tip

1) With a network connection, a ‘Pop up menu’ will show and indicate that a new firmware is available when powering on. Press Enter to continue. (Left) Tip

2) If your receiver shows “Latest” in the update firmware field, then your receiver already has the latest firmware update. Please proceed from slide 6 to STEP 2 ‘Finding your serial # and MAC address’. (Right)

The ‘Upgrade ID’ is a unique code for your receiver and is necessary for your upgrade. This step shows you how to find your upgrade ID.

Finding Your Upgrade ID from the OnScreen Menu (Press the MENU Key on the RC or on your receiver)

1) Select ‘Manual Setup’.

2) Select ‘Option Setup’.

3) Select ’Add New Feature.

4) Your receiver is connecting the server.

5) Your receiver shows ‘Upgrade ID’

Now you are ready for upgrade registration. Please visit fill out the following form. You will be notified by email upon payment, at which time you can proceed to step 4 and follow the instructions to download your AirPlay upgrade

Upgrading Your Receiver AV7005

Upgrade from the OnScreen Menu (Press the ‘MENU’ key on the RC and on your receiver)

(1) Select ‘Manual Setup’

(2) Select ‘Option Setup’

(3) Select ‘Add New Feature’.

(4) Your receiver is connecting the server.

(5) Select ‘Upgrade’ Press Enter to start upgrade. The OnScreen Menu shuts down automatically.

(6) The front display shows upgrade status. The unit will reboot automatically after upgrade. Please do not turn off your receiver during upgrade. Upgrade may take longer than estimated download time.

How to Obtain a Firmware Update and an Upgrade ID (NA7004 and MCR603)

The menu systems for the NA7004 and MCR603 are identical; the procedure for obtaining the Firmware Update and Upgrade ID is the same for both. See below.

1. Using the frontpanel buttons or the supplied remote control; press MENU




2. Navigate to, and select OTHER




3. Navigate to, and select FIRMWARE UPDATE. Perform any available update




4. Navigate to, and select ADD NEW FEATURE. The Upgrade ID is displayed here
