How
to remove LCD Screen
Before
starting to disassemble the iPad 2, we need to bring to your attention to two
areas where the need for extreme caution is necessary to prevent irreversible
damage.
On the left side of the tablet, approximately 2 inches from the home button, is the touch screen digitizer ribbon cable. Also on the left side of the tablet, approximately 2 inches to the right of the home button, is the Wi-Fi antenna flex cable.
When you are separating the touch screen from the bezel with the plastic opening tool, below in Step Three, make sure to avoid using excessive force on these two parts of the tablet.
On the left side of the tablet, approximately 2 inches from the home button, is the touch screen digitizer ribbon cable. Also on the left side of the tablet, approximately 2 inches to the right of the home button, is the Wi-Fi antenna flex cable.
When you are separating the touch screen from the bezel with the plastic opening tool, below in Step Three, make sure to avoid using excessive force on these two parts of the tablet.
Using
the heat gun or blow dryer, begin to heat the outer edges of the tablet to
soften the adhesive securing the front panel of the unit (1 to 2 minutes should
suffice).
Using
the plastic opening tool, create separation between the trim bezel and the
touch screen digitizer.
Slide
the opening tool around the display assembly to release the adhesive around the
entire tablet.
The support of the heat gun or blow dryer might be needed in order to soften the adhesive while working all the way around the touch screen.

Use
the triangle opening tools while working around the perimeter of the iPad 2 to
hold apart the adhesive and keep separation.
When
the adhesive has been released all the way around the tablet, rotate the touch
screen away from the base. This will be similar to opening a book. Make sure
you are mindful of th ribbon cable in the bottom left corner. Next, locate and
remove the four Phillips screws (#00) that secure the LCD to the base.
Lift
and rotate the LCD screen out of the base the same way as you did the touch
screen. You can then rest the LCD screen on top of the touch screen/front
panel.
The
LCD screen ribbon cable is held in with a FPC style connector which has a
locking tab. Make sure you unlock this tab before trying to unplug the ribbon
cable.
The
tab on the opposite side of where the cable is inserted is the lock. Use the
spudger to flip the tab up 90 degrees.
Once the locking tab is flipped up, release the ribbon cable from its connector and then remove the LCD screen from the iPad 2.

How
to remove Touch Screen
The
touch screen ribbon cable is also held in to the phone with FPC style
connectors. Again, these have locking tabs that need to be unlocked before
trying to unplug the ribbon cables.
The tabs on the opposite side of where the cables are inserted are the locks.
Use the spudger to flip the tabs 90 degrees.
Once the locking tabs are flipped up, release the ribbon cables from their connectors. You can now remove the touch screen from the iPad 2.

How
to remove Dock Port Assembly
Use
the flat side of the spudger to gently pry up and release the dock port’s
single plug style connector.
Locate
and remove the two Phillips screws (#00) that secure the dock port connector
into the tablet, this will allow you to remove the dock port from the iPad 2.
How
to remove Front-Facing Camera
The
connection for the headphone jack assembly is a locking style connector that
needs to be released before the ribbon cable can be removed. Use the spudger to
flip the lock and remove the ribbon cable from the socket.
Locate
and remove the two Phillips screws (#00) that secure the headphone jack to the
body of the iPad 2.
Slide
the spudger under the front-facing camera to pry up and remove it from the
housing of the iPad. To disconnect the cable for the front-facing camera from
the tablet, use the spudger to pry it up and out of its socket and then remove
the front-facing camera from the iPad 2.
How
to remove Headphone Jack Assembly Wi-Fi Antenna Flex Cable
Using
tweezers or the spudger, maneuver the headphone jack assembly up and out of the
iPad 2.
Then peel up the microphone that is the last portion of the cable.
Locate and remove the four Phillips screws (#00) that secure the Wi-Fi antenna flex cable to the iPad 2.

The
interconnection cable for the power & volume button assembly has a locking
connection. Release the locking lever and then remove the connection from the
socket.
The
speaker assembly has a plug style connection. Use the flat end of the spudger
to pry up and remove the speaker assembly
Locate
and remove the five Phillips screws (#00) that secure the motherboard to the
body of the iPad 2.
Use
the flat end of the spudger to lift, pry up and remove the motherboard from the
body of the iPad 2.
The
final connection for the Wi-Fi antenna flex cable is on the bottom side of the
motherboard. Use the tweezers or the spudger to remove this plug and then
remove the WiFi antenna from the iPad 2.
How
to remove Battery
The
battery is secured to the body of the tablet with a small amount of adhesive on
both sides of its three pieces.
Use the metal spudger to pry the battery up and out of the body of the iPad 2.
