REPAIRING AND NOT THROWING AWAY

Richtige Fernseher haben Röhren!

In Brief: On this site you will find pictures and technical information about Service Modes, Circuit Diagrams, Firmware Update procedure, Disassemble procedure, Universal remote control set-up codes, Troubleshooting and more....

If you go into the profession, you will obtain or have access to a variety of tech tips databases HERE IT IS Master Electronics Repair !.

These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution. In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Happy repairing!

General recommendations for repairing TV LCD
Repair of a SONY KDL-52Z4500 TV is advisable to start with an external examination of all its constituent elements, both internal electronic components and external. Inspection is also subject to body elements, control buttons, screen, connectors and cords. Visible damage to elements can sometimes suggest further directions for finding a defect before starting the necessary measurements. Swollen electrolytic or cermet capacitors, charred resistors, ring cracks in the soldered terminals of the elements - all this can significantly help the master to determine the causes and consequences of the malfunction of the TV.
If the G6 power supply module fails, the external manifestations may be different, for example, the SONY KDL-52Z4500 does not turn on at all and there is no indication of the control lights on the front panel. When diagnosing and repairing the G6 power supply unit, it is necessary first of all to check the fuse, and if it breaks, the power switch and rectifier bridge diodes should be checked for avalanche (thermal) breakdown.
It should be remembered that the N-FET keys used in flyback converters rarely fail for no reason that must be sought by checking other elements of the circuit. Often the breakdown is caused by malfunctions of electrolytic capacitors or semiconductor elements in the primary circuit, or by a break in the resistors in the stabilization circuits. The PWM controller chip can also cause a breakdown of the power switch of the converter.
In cases using a power module with an active KKM, troubleshooting is sometimes somewhat more complicated.
If, when you turn on the TV, the image appears and immediately disappears, or is initially absent when you turn on, but there is sound and other functions work, there is a high probability of a malfunction of the inverter (power converter for the backlight). In such cases, the lamps, the inverter and the common power module are subject to verification, in which the electrolytic capacitors of the rectifier filter supplying the inverter should be checked.
When repairing the inverter D4, D5, it is often necessary to disable the protection for diagnostics, which, for the purpose of fire safety, turns it off in any emergency situation, for example, during a malfunction or uneven wear of the lamps, which makes it difficult to find a defect.
It should be remembered that in such cases there is a risk of failure of the power elements of the inverter and to take special care. After carrying out repairs, the protection circuit must be restored for further safe operation of the TV.
Once again, we remind TV users: you should not make attempts to repair it yourself without the appropriate knowledge, experience and the necessary qualifications! Trust the repair only to professionals with sufficient experience in the field of electronic equipment repair.
