These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

LAMP SPECIFICATIONS
Type No. POA-LMP59Service Parts No.  610 305 5602
Lamp Replacement.
  1. Turn off the projector and disconnect the AC cord. Allow the projector to cool for at least 45 minutes.
  2. Loosen 1 screws with a screwdriver and open the lamp cover.
  3. Loosen 2 screws and pull out the lamp assembly by grasping the handle.
  4. Replace the lamp assembly securely and tighten 2 screws.
  5. Close the lamp cover and tighten 1 screw.
  6. Connect the AC cord to the projector and turn on.
  7. Reset the Lamp Replace Counter, see below explanation
Note: Do not reset the Lamp Replace Counter, except after lamp is replaced.
The projector can not be turned-on with lamp cover removed, because when the lamp cover is removed, the interlock switch is also released to switch off the mains power for safety.
How to reset Lamp Replace Counter.
  • Turn the projector on, and press the MENU button and the on-screen menu will appear. Press the /  button to move a red frame pointer to SETTING menu icon.
  • Press the   button to move a red frame pointer to “Lamp counter reset” and then press the SELECT button. The message “Lamp replace counter reset?” is displayed. Move the pointer to [Yes] and the press the SELECT button.
  • Another confirmation dialog box appears and select [Yes] to reset Lamp Replace Counter.
How to check Lamp Replace Counter.
The LAMP REPLACEMENT indicator will illuminate when the Lamp Replace Counter reaches 1000 hours. This is to indicate that lamp replacement is required.
  • Press and hold the pointer  on the projector for more than 20 seconds.
  • The Lamp replace Counter is displayed on top left corner of the screen briefly.
Circuit Protections
This projector provides the following circuit protections to operate in safety. If the abnormality occurs inside the projector, it will automatically turn off by operating one of the following protection circuits.
Fuse
The fuse is located inside of the projector. When either the LAMP indicator or the READY indicator is not illuminated, fuse may be opened. Check the fuse as following steps.  It should be used the specified fuse as follows;
Remove the cabinet top following to “Mechanical Disassemblies”.
Remove the fuse from fuse holder.  To install the fuse, take reversed step in the above. [TYPE 8A 250V FUSE]
Thermal switch
There is the thermal switch (SW905) inside of the projector to prevent the internal temperature rising abnormally. When the internal temperature reaches near 90˚C, turn off the AC main power supply automatically.
The thermal switch is not reset to normal automatically even if the internal temperature becomes normal. Reset the thermal switch following procedure.
Check the resistance between terminals of thermal switch by using the tester. If it has high impedance, thermal switch may be in operative.
How to reset the thermal switch
Remove cabinet top following to the “Mechanical Disassemblies”.
Press the reset button on the thermal switch.
CAUTION: Before press the reset button, make sure that the AC cord must be disconnected from the AC outlet.
Interlock switch
The interlock switch (SW902) cuts off the AC mains power supply when the lamp cover is removed. After opening the lamp cover for replacing the lamp ass’y, place the lamp cover correctly otherwise the projector cannot turn on.

LAMP REPLACEMENT AND LAMP COUNTER RESET.
lamp type: POA-LMP59.
Service Part Number: 610 305 5602
  • Turn OFF the projector, and disconnect AC cord.  Allow the projector to cool down fro at least 45 minutes.  
  • Loosen one screw and open the lamp cover.
  • Loosen two screws and pull out the lamp assembly by gasping the handle.
  • Replace the lamp assembly securely and tighten two screws.
  • Close the lamp cover and tighten one screw. 
  • Connect the AC cord to projector and turn ON.
LAMP TIME RESET.
Do not reset the Lamp Reset Counter, except after lamp is replaced.  The projector cannot to be turned ON with lamp cover removed, because when lamp cover is removed, the interlock switch is also released to 'Switch Off' the mains power supply.
  1. Turn the projector ON, and press Menu button, and the on-screen menu will appear.
  2. Press "UP" button to move a red frame pointer to "Lamp Counter Reset?"is displayed.  Move the pointer to 'Yes', and press the "Select" button.
  3. An other confirmation box appears, and select 'Yes' to reset Lamp Replace Counter.
Should the air filter become clogged with dust particles, it will reduce the cooling fan's effectiveness and my result in internal heat build up and short lamp life.  So it is recommended to clean the air filter after the projection lamp is replaced. 
HOW TO CHECK LAMP REPLACE COUNTER?
  • The lamp replacement indicator will illuminate  when the lamp replace counter reaches 1000 hours.  This is to indicate that lamp replacement is required. 
  • Press and Hold the Pointer "UP" on the projector for more than 20 seconds.
  • The Lamp Replace Counter is displayed on the top left corner of the screen briefly.  
SERVICE MODE ENTRY
  • To enter service mode, Press and Hold the Menu & Image buttons on the projector at the same time for more than 3 seconds.  The service menu will be appeared on the screen.
  • Select the adjustment Group number (Group) by pressing "Menu+" button or 'Image-" button, and select the adjustment item number by pressing UP | DN button, and change the data value to selected item, by pressing "Left or Right" button.
  • To exit service mode, press Power ON/OFF button on the projector or remote control unit

CONTRAST ADJUSTMENT
  • Before adjustment, input a 100% of Black Raster Signal.
R G B Contrast Adjustment
  1. Loosen the screw on the polarized glass mounting base which  intended to adjust.
  2. Turn the polarized glass mounting base to obtain the darkest brightness on the screen.
  3. Tighten the the screw to fix the polarized glass mounting base.
Condenser Lens Adjustment
  1. Turn the projector ON by a state of without FPC cables.  
  2. Adjust the adjustment base of condenser lens assembly to make color uniformity in white.  If the shading appears on the left or right of the screen, loosen two fixing screws with 2.0 mm hex driver, and adjust the slot to make color uniformity in white by using the slot screw driver.  If shading appears, on the top or bottom of the screen, loosen screws [2nos] with 2mm hex driver and adjust the slot to make color uniformity in white by using a slot screwdriver.  
  3. Tighten all screws to fix the condenser lens unit.  The relay lens adjustment must be carried out after this adjustment.
Relay Lens-Out Adjustment
  1. Turn On the projector by a state without FPC cables.  
  2. Adjust the relay lens by proceedings as above.
Mirror Adjustment.
  1. Turn ON the projector without FPC cables.
  2. Adjust the adjustment base of the mirror, such as there is no cyan bar appears on the top or bottom of the screen, and no shading appears on the left or right of the screen.  The work is a skilled one, and do not touch these original adjustments, if you do now know how to proceed.
MEMORY IC REPLACEMENT
     IC 808 on the main board stores the data for service adjustments.  It should not be replaced except for in the case of defective device.  If replaced, re-adjustments are required.  The data of Lamp replacement Counter is stored in this IC.  Note that, the Lamp Replacement Counter will be reset when memory IC is replaced.  Lamp Replace Counter cannot be set to the previous value.

     When IC 808 is replaced with new one,  the CPU writes down the default data of service adjustments to the replaced IC as mentioned on the service adjustments table.  As these data are not the same as factory shipped data, it should be required to perform the re-adjustments. 

     When the main board is replaced, IC808 should be should be replaced with the one on previous main board.  After replacement, it should be required to perform the re-adjustments

     This projector provides the following circuit protections to operate in safety.  If the abnormality occurs inside the projector, it will automatically turned off by operating one of the following protection circuits.


FUSE
     The fuse is located inside the projector.  When either the lamp indicator or the ready indicator is not illuminated, fuse may be opened.  It should be used the specified fuse:
FUSE PART NO: 645 058 8181
TYPE: 8A 250V FUSE.

HOW TO REPLACE THE FUSE.

  • Remove the cabinet top .
  • Remove the fuse from the holder, and install the new fuse.
THERMAL SWITCH 

     There is a thermal switch (SW905) inside the projector to prevent the internal temperature rising abnormally.  When the internal temperature rises near 90 degreeC, turn OFF the AC mains supply automatically.  
     The thermal switch is not reset to normal automatically, even if the internal temperature becomes normal.  Reset the thermal switch following procedure.
Check the resistance between terminals of thermal switch by using a tester.  If it has high impedance thermal switch may be in-operative.

HOW TO RESET THERMAL SWITCH
  1. Remove the cabinet top.
  2. Press the 'Reset' button on the thermal switch.  (Before press the reset button, make sure that the AC cord must be disconnected from the AC outlet.
INTERLOCK SWITCH

     The interlock switch (SW902), cuts of AC mains power supply, when the lamp cover is removed.  After opening the lamp cover for replacing the Lamp Assembly, place the lamp cover correctly otherwise the projector can not turn ON.

WARNING TEMPERATURE AND POWER FAILURE PROTECTION

     The projector will be automatically turned off when the internal temperature of the projector exceeds the normal operating temperature, or cooling fan stops or the power supplies in the projector are failed.

      If Temperature Warning [Red] and ready [Green] indicators are flashing at the same time, it may defect the cooling fans and power supply circuits.  Check fan operation and power supply lines.

Possible Causes.
  • Air filter is clogged with dust particles.  Remove the dust from the air filter.
  • Ventilation slots of the projector are blocked.
  • Ensure proper ventilation, if the projector is used in closed enclosures.

AIR FILTER CARE AND CLEANING
  1. Turn the power Off and unplug the projector from AC mains socket.
  2. Turn the projector upside down and remove air filters by pulling the latches of them upwards.
  3. Clean the air filters by brush or wash out the dust particles.  
  4. Replace each air filter properly.  Make sure that air filters are fully inserted. 
MECHANICAL DISASSEMBLIES
  • Cabinet Top Removal.
  1. Remove two screws to take the cabinet Front Top off and then remove the lens Front Cover.
  2. Remove five screws and then take the cabinet Top Upward off.
  • Main Board & Thermal Switch Removal.
  1. Remove one screw to take the thermal switch.
  2. Remove five screws to take the main board upward.
  • AV Com Board & Rear Panel Removal
  1. Remove one screw and take the Rear Panel Ass'y Upward.
  2. Remove four screws to take AV board from the Rear Panel ass'y off.
  3. Remove five screws to take the Com Board from the Rear Panel ass'y off.
  • Cabinet Front Removal
  1. Remove the lens cover upwards.
  2. Remove two screws and take the Cabinet Front Off.
  3. Remove one screw and take the R/C board off.
  4. Remove three screws and take the Filter Holder off.
  • Audio Board Removal
  1. Remove three screws and pull the Holder ass'y upward off.
  2. Remove four screws to take the Audio Board from the holder.
  • speaker Base Removal.
  1. Remove three screws and then remove the Speaker Base.
  • Optical Unit Removal
  1. Loosen one screw on the lamp cover and two screws on the lamp house and take the lamp house off from the cabinet bottom.
  2. Remove two screws and disconnect the Lamp Socket.
  3. Remove two screws and remove shield plate.
  4. Remove five screws on the optical unit, one screw on the duct ass'y and then pull the optical unit upward off.
  • Fan and Motor removal
  1. Remove four screws the take the fan off.
  2. Remove three screws to take the fan off.
  3. Remove four screws to take the duct ass'y off.
  4. Remove two screws to take the Lens Shift Motor and Sensor SW holder from the base.
  • Lamp Ballast Removal
  1. Remove four screws and then pull the ballast bard ass'y upward off.
  2. Remove three screws to take the fan off.
  3. Unhook four hooks and take the lamp ballast board off.  
  4. Disconnect the power DC board from the power AC board.
  • Power AC Board Removal.
  1. Remove four screws to take the Power Board off.
  2. Remove four screws to take the holder from the cabinet bottom.
  • Line Filter Board & Interlock Switch Removal
  1. Remove three screws to take the Filter Board Ass'y upward.
  2. Remove three screws and an other screw to take the filter board from the holder.
  3. Remove two screws to take the interlock switch from the cabinet bottom.
  • Fans Removal.
  1. Remove one screw and then take the fan off, and remove three screws to take the duct-A off
  2. Remove four screws to take the duct-B off.
  3. Remove three screws to take the duct-C off.
  4. Remove two screws to take the fan off. Remove two screws to take the fan off.
  5. Remove two screws to take the duct cover off, and remove two screws to take the fan off.
  6. Remove five screws to take the duct-D off.

ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENTS

  • Circuit Adjustments.
Each circuit has been made by the fine adjustment at the Factory.  Do not attempt to adjust the following adjustments except requiring re-adjustments in servicing otherwise it may cause loss of performance and product safety.

Refer Service Adjustment Menu Operation discussed earlier post here to enter into service mode, where ever necessary.

  • Fan Voltage Adjustment.
  1. Set the Lamp Mode to "ECO" with Menu function.
  2. Enter the Service Mode and select group number [11] and item number [5].  Set data value to "1".
  3. Connect a digital volt meter to test point 'TPFAN1'(+) and Chassis ground (-Ve).
  4. Select Group number [11]  and item number [86] and adjust the voltage to be [4.5+|-o.1Vdc, by changing the data value.  Select item number [87], and adjust the voltage to be 13.8+/- 0.1Vdc by changing the data value.
  5. Connect a digital volt meter to test point 'TPFAN2'(+)  and Chassis ground.
  6. Select item number [88] and adjust the voltage to be 4.5Vdc by changing the data value.  Select item number [89], and adjust the voltage to be 13.8Vdc, by adjusting the data value.
  7. Connect the digital volt meter to test point 'TPFAN3' and Chassis ground.  
  8. Select item number [90] and adjust the voltage to be 4.5Vdc, by changing the data value.  Select item number [91] and adjust the voltage to be 13.8Vdc, by changing the data value.
  9. Select Group number [11] and item number [5].  Set data value to [0], and set the lamp mode to 'Normal' with the Menu function. 
  • Video Center Adjustment
  1. Receive a 16 step gray scale computer signal with Computer1[Analog RGB Mode].
  2. Enter the service menu.
  3. Connect digital voltmeter  to test point TP531+ve and chassis ground.
  4. Select Group number [5], item number [0], and adjust the voltage to be 7.50Vdc by changing the data value.  
  5. Connect the digital voltmeter to test point TP501+ve and Chassis ground.
  6. Select item number [1], and adjust the voltage to be 7.5Vdc by changing the data value.  
  7. Connect the digital voltmeter to test point TP561+ve and Chassis ground.
  8. Select item number [2] and adjust the voltage to be 7.5Vdc by changing the data value.
There are so many circuit adjustments more, which cannot be done without proper testing equipments,like video signal generator and oscilloscope.  Never touch to any of these adjustments, or adjust the data values there, if you find some.  it will be very difficult to set right, if any of these data values are changed.

                                             TO ENTER SERVICE MODE

  • Press and Hold [Menu & Image] on the projector simultaneously for more than 3 seconds.  Service Mode Menu appears.
  • To select adjustment group by pressing  'Menu (+)' button or 'Image (-)' button.
  • Select the adjustment item number  by pressing 'Up / Dn" button.
  • To change the data value to selected item, use "Left or Right" button.
  • To "Exit" service mode, press the Power ON/OFF button, either at the remote control or at the main unit.
                                            MEMORY IC REPLACEMENT

  • IC 808 on the main board stores the data for service adjustments, and should not be replaced except for a cause of defect.  
  • If replaced, re-adjustments are required.
  • The data of Lamp Replace counter is stored in the IC808.  
  • The Lamp Replace counter will be reset, when this IC is replaced.   Lamp replace counter cannot be set to previous value, after this IC replacement.

                                              Fan Voltage Adjustment.
  1. Set the Lamp Mode to 'ECO" with the Menu function.
  2. Enter the service mode, and select group (11) and item (5).  Set data value to [1].
  3. Connect a digital voltmeter to test point "TPFAN 1 +"  and chassis ground.
  4. Select group (11), item number (86) and adjust the voltage to be [4.5V +/-0.1Vdc] by changing the data value.  Select item number (87) and adjust the voltage to be 13.8Vdc by changing the data value.
  5. Connect the DVM to test point 'TPFAN 2'(+)  and chassis ground.  
  6. Select item number (88) and adjust the voltage to be 4.5Vdc by changing the data value.
  7. Connect the DVM to test point 'TPFAN3+' and chassis ground.  
  8. Select item number (90), and adjust the voltage to be 4.5V by changing the data value.
  9. Select group [11] and item number (5).  Set the data value to [0], and set the Lamp Mode to "Normal" with the menu function.
                                            LAMP REPLACEMENT
  • Turn OFF the projector and disconnect AC cord.  Allow the projetor to cool at least 45 minutes, it was being run.
  • Loosen one screw and open the lamp cover.
  • loosen two screws  and pull out the Lamp Ass'y by gasping the handle.
  • Replace the new lamp ass'y securely and tighten the two screws.
  • Close the lamp cover, and tighten the one screw.
                              TO RESET THE LAMP REPLACE COUNTER

Do not reset Lamp Reset counter, except after the lamp is replaced.  The projector cannpt be turned ON with lamp cover removed, because, if the lamp cover is removed, the interlock switch is also released to switch OFF the mains supply for safety.

  1. Turn the projector ON and press the Menu Button and on-screen menu will appear.
  2. Press ( < / > ) button to move a red frame pointer to "Setting" menu icon.
  3. Press {UP} button to move the red frame pointer to [Lamp Counter Reset?], is displayed.  Move the pointer to "Yes" and press the 'Select' button.  
  4. Another information dialogue box appears and select (Yes) to reset the Lamp Replace Counter.
