These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

TO REPLACE CARBON BRUSH ASSEMBLY
Take off four screws [M4X14], then the carbon brush assembly can be removed.
Put the new carbon brush assembly in place, and release the carbon brush by pushing up the holder pin toward the motor center.
Connect the lead wire with the terminal on carbon brush assembly.  [[When replacing carbon brush assemblies, be sure to replace the worn out carbon brush assembly with new one on both sides.  Be sure to connect the lead wire in proper way as shown in figure.]]

CARE OF AIR FILTERS
Remove the filter as shown, and wash in warm water
Dry through away from direct sunlight  and fit them back into the cleaner.
Remove the old filter from the cage and discard it.
Position the new filter in cage, and replace the cage in the cleaner
After assembly, run the cleaner for at least 15 minutes without joining the hose to its main body and be certain that there is no abnormal vibration.
Measure the insulation resistance between power supply plug and the metal surface by 500VDC insulation resistance tester and be certain that the insulation resistance is not less than 10M ohm.

SERVICE INFORMATION
To open the appliance, first remove the screws A,B,C,D.
To reach the motor remove the screws E.
To disassemble the cordwider use Torx screw driver no T10, which is one of set consisting of T20, T15, T10, T9, T8, T7 and T6 = 4822 395 50145.
Give attention that the contact fi ngers (item 45) are placed on the cord-winder shaft in such a way that the pressure point of the cordwinder knob to the cord winderlever (item 40) is vertical.
The spare parts have been standardized as much as possible.
Component confi guration on exploded view may differ in case of specifi c versions, however, the actual components are distinguished by means of code numbers.
Item 1 Cotton dustbag is used in those countries where paper dustbags are not available
Item 41 Cord-winder spring unit is provided with a long spring, both long and short cords can be used in combination with this spring.
Cordwinder spring has to be tensioned till maximum minus approx. 1,5 revolution.

Motor unit:
The type no. plate is placed on the outside of the lower housing (38). To open the motor unit, remove the inlay by pressing the inlay on the cord winder push-button and remove 2 screws (E). (The inlay is mounted on the cover by means of a snap construction). Use a long Philips screwdriver 9965 000 08332 to remove the 6 screws (F) of the lower housing / top housing. (Holes in lower housing are 13 cm deep). For safety reasons, make sure that the cap clamps do not come above the panel surface (31) after replacing of the switch (30). If the lower housing (38) must be separated from the top housing (15) always replace waterproofing foam (22). Press hard on the housing during assembly of this unit to prevent the foam from moving during assembly. The cord winder lever (14) must be assembled through the top cover at an angle (as shown in the fi gure) to operate the cord winder. Depending on the national version, the cleaner has a 6.3 or 9.3 m cord. The spring unit (101) is standard provided with a 9.3 m spring. To demount the cord winder use TORX screw driver no. T15, which is one of a set consisting of T20, T15, T10, T9, T8 and T6 4822 395 50145.


To check the shampoo circuit, it is neccessary to use the male plug (61) to open the valve in the female plug (32). If pos. 101 is replaced, shaft A must be lubricated with silicone grease (A). This grease may not be used on terminals (103) or on conductors (102).

DISASSEMBLY- AND RE-ASSEMBLY ADVISE
First lift and remove the knob and printed knob base and then loosen mounting screws A.

Lift the motor housing (item 26) out of the lower housing and take out the cord winder unit.
To disassemble the cord winder, use TORX screwdriver no. T10, which is one of a set consisting of T20; T15; T10; T9; T8; T7 and T6 (code number 4822 395 50145).
REPAIR INSTRUCTION
- The spare parts have been standardized as much as possible.
- Cotton dustbags are used in countries where paper dustbags are unobtainable.
- If the reel half spring unit is replaced, shaft F must be lubricated with silicone grease. Do not apply any silicone grease to or spill any grease on terminals (36) or conductors (35).
- Item 34 is provided with a long cord-winder spring, but both long and short cords can be used in combination with this spring. (L = 9.3 m)
- Depending on the length of the original cord, the spare cord may have to be shortened.
- The cord winder spring must be tensioned to the maximum level and then be rewound approx. 1.5 turn.
- The RPM can be adjusted by means of the potentiometer mounted on the PCB (item 25). The RPM is correctly adjusted if the motor starts automatically and continues to run smoothly with the ON/OFF position and the adjustable potentiometer in minimum position.
- If the function of the electronic control unit (item 25) is not required, the Triac must be short-circuited in the manner shown in the circuit diagram.
- When the vacuum cleaner is used to suck up fine dust, the pores of the dustbag may become clogged, causing the passage of air through the dustbag to become obstructed. As a result, the dustbag-full indicator will indicate that the dustbag needs to be replaced, even though the dustbag is not full at all.
