These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

HOW TO ENTER SERVICE MENU TO BEKO L6B PDP [PLASMA DISPLAY]

 To enter into the service menu, press digits 9-3-0-1 on the remote controller, when the set is in standby mode. This will activat e the service menu.

The service menu has three items.  Display,caliber & version.

The display item has seven options.

* Panel option gives more information about the current panel resolution.  It reads only options, and cannot be adjusted.
* Factory Mode.  [Used during production.  Keep it OFF]

# Scart prescale.
This option sets the prescale values for the input sound entering the scart input of MSP [Micronas Sound Processor].  Changing this value, you can adjsut the level of the output sound going to loudspeakers of all the sources, except Tuners.  The range is in between [0 to 100].

# Nicam Preacale.
This option sets the prescale values of the Nicam standard sounds for tuner input.  Changing this value, you can adjust the level of output sound that going to loudspeakers for the Nicam sound entering to analogue sound input of MSP.  The range is in between [0 to 100].

 #FM/AM Prescale.
This option sets the prescale values for the FM/AM standard sounds for tuner inputs.  Changing this value, you can adjust the level of output sound going to loudspeakers for FM/AM sounds entering the analogue sound input of MSP. [The range is in between [0 to 100]

# AGC [Automatic Gain Control] adjustment
This option sets the input voltage going to IF decoder AGC pin. Changing this value, you can adjust the voltage for optimum tuner perfomnce. The range in in between [0 to 31]

# RGB brightness contrast.
These are used for color bios adjustment. The range is between [0 to 255].

CALIBER
Caliber item has 9 options.

* Video Format.
This option force the video format to desired format.  Selectable formats are [Auto, PAL, NTSC & SECAM]

*Colorspace.
This option gives the information about the video input colorspace input to PW181 IC. Do Not Change This Value, unless an error occured in the colors displayed.

* Test pattern.
This option activates the internal pattern of PW181 IC.  There are three choices.  [None, Vertical bars, Solid Color].  'None" will deactivate the internal pattern.  "Vertical Bar" choice activates the bar pattern for the selected color component.  "Solid Color" activates the solid pattern with one color component and also allows to change the level of color by solid field level.

* Color components.
This option selects the color for the internal pattern of PW181 IC.  There are four choices.  [All, Red, Green & Blue].  If you choose all, will display a white pattern, and if you choose one of the other choices, you will get the test pattern with selected color.

Solid Field Level.
This option will adjust the level of the colors for the test pattern.  The range is between [1&64].
Initial ATS
This option will enable or disable the initial setup for the TV.  Setting this option to "ON" the TV will open from the quick setup menu.  Setting this option "OFF" will disable this option.

* Factory Reset.
This option executes a reset operation for NVRAM and load default values.  Pressing "OK"  when this option is selected will erase the NVRAM and load default values.

* dpms
This option selects the power option for the TV.  Setting this option to "ON" the tV will switch to the last state for power on transition.  Setting this to "OFF" will disable this option and the TV will always switch to Standby-State, while power on transistion.

osd timeout
This option sets the OSD timeout for the main menu structure.  Selections are 5, 15, and 60 seconds. [Backlight not used in this product]

*Version
This item gives the information about the vesion of the software. Also you can see the last modified time for the Graphical user Interface [GUI].
