These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

SET YOUR AIWA DVDs TO REGION-FREE
[Aiwa AVJ-X33, AVJ-X55, HT-DV50, XD-AX1, XD-DK601, XD-DV10, XD-DV170, XD-DV290, XD-DV380, XD-DV485, XD-DV487, XD-DV500, XD-DV530, XD-DV600, XD-PK701, XP-K7, XP-KR9, XR-DV120, XR-DV526, XR-DV700, XR-DV701, XSDV335RW] _ No known unlock codes.

Aiwa XR-DV525
  • Unplug hte player
  • Press and hold DVD/CD
  • Plug the player in
  • Press FFW
  • "Factory" is displayed
  • Release the keys.
Aiwa XD-DV480
  • Plug the player in and turn it on with the remote "No Disc" is displayed
  • Press PAUSE, 8, 9, 2 and 6 "CODE__" is displayed
  • Press 0 2x within 5 secs
  • Press PAUSE and POWER.
Aiwa XD-DV170
Possibly only works with RC 4.
  • Plug the player in, but don't turn it on ("Off" is displayed)
  • Press and hold MENU
  • Press and hold TOP MENU
  • Press and hold POWER
  • Press all 3 buttons for 3 secs and then release them "Factory" is displayed.
  • Turn on the player
Aiwa XD-AX10
You need an One For All remote (URC 7030)
  • Press "DVD" on the player
  • Press and hold MAGIC
  • Enter 0, 5, 3, 3
  • Press and hold MAGIC again
  • Enter 9, 9, 4
  • Press MAGIC
  • Press "1-5" and enter the following code
  • Repeat from step 4 until all 5 keys are programmed: Key 1: 189 // Key 2: 255 // Key 3: 095 // Key 4: 221 // Key 5: 079
  • Turn on the player (standby /without a disc inserted)
  • Press "1-5"
  • Player turns on
  • Press "1-5" again
  • Player turns off.
Aiwa XD-520KS / XD-DV520 / XD-DV520 KS
  • Turn on the player (without a disc inserted)
  • Open the disc tray
  • Press MENU
  • Press 1, 6, 7
  • Current region is displayed
  • Press MUTE
  • "All" is displayed
  • Turn the player off
Aiwa HT-DV90
  1. Press DVD/CD
  2. Press OPEN
  3. Press C, 2, 5, 8, 0, C ("Testmode" is displayed) Onscreen display shows current RC
  4. Press Up ("14 02" is displayed (02 is RC))
  5. Press 1, 4, 0 and X (X = region; 0 = codefree)
  6. Press ENTER
  7. Press RETURN ("Testmode" is displayed)
  8. Press C ("EEP CLR and EEP ERR" is displayed)
  9. Insert a DVD
  10. Press RETURN.
Aiwa HT-DM150
  • Turn on the player (without a disc inserted)
  • Press ENTER
  • Press 8, 4, 2, 6, 9
  • Press ENTER again.
Aiwa HT-DV50 / XD-DV50
  • Press ON/OFF on the player
  • Press and hold MENU, TOP MENU, OSD
  • After approx. 3 secs "Factory" is displayed
  • Release the keys
  • Turn on the player.
Aiwa XD-DV520
  • Using the open button on the machine, open the disc tray. Make sure it's empty.  Make sure you can see the DVD on your TV screen 2.  Press MENU on remote (not top menu), you should see the on screen pectoral graphics on your TV screen
  • Using the remote, press 1, 6, 7
  • On the screen you should see over the top of the graphics "region 1-6".
  • Press MUTE button and next to "region 1-6" you should see "all"
  • Then use the remotes POWER OFF button and the DVD should close the (empty) tray.
  • Restart the unit, put in a region disc and it should play it.
Aiwa XD-DW1 / XD-DW5 / XD-DW7
  1. Turn on the player
  2. Insert a disc
  3. Open the disc tray, take the disc out, close the disc tray, press STOP instantly
  4. Press 8, 7, 2, 0 and >> For selection of a specific RC replace >> with Code (1-6).  If this doesn't work, press 1 instead of 2 in step 4.
Aiwa XD-DV290 / XD-DV370 / XR-DV370 KN
  • Press PAUSE
  • Press 3, 1, 4, 1, 5, 9
  • Press the button for the desired RC (0=code free)
  • Press PAUSE
  • Turn the player off.
