These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

TO ENTER SERVICE MODE [FACTORY MODE]

  • Keep press both key of Vol. ◄ and CH. ▼ then press POWER key to entry factory mode.
  • The factory mode shall catch signal sources from AV ( AV1 ), RGB, YPbPr, and VGA automatically.
  • The priority to catch signal sources in factory mode shall be 1st) AV ( AV1 ), 2nd) VGA, 3rd) YPbPr ( 720p, 1080i, 480p and 480i ), 4th) RGB.
  • Press CH. ▼ or ▲ to select item.
  • Press Vol. ◄ or ► to entry item.
  • Press MENU/EXIT for appear OSD or exit item.
  • Keep press both key of Vol. ◄ and CH. ▼ then press POWER key to exit factory mode.
Note:
  1. Must follow the adjust procedure: AV1 ( Composite ) → VGA → YPbPr → YCbCr → RGB
  2. Run VGA Auto White Balance to have VGA RGB Gain setting automatically.
  3. The YPbPr RGB Gain will use the VGA RGB Gain setting automatically.
  4. In VGA and YPbPr, the G Bias should be fixed at 40.
  5. Measure on the full level to get correct RGB Gain value; measure on the level 60/255 to get correct RGB Bias value.
  6. Double check RGB Gain values after adjust RGB Bias values; and vice versa, to get the final setting. This is because adjust on either side will affect on the other side.
  7. In YCbCr setting, we have fixed white balance setting. Only contrast, brightness and saturation are adjustable.
  8. Fix the light censor on the same position.
TO CLEAR PASSWORD & TO SET A NEW PASSWORD, IF FORGET.
  • Press and hold both of CH UP and Vol + on TV set simultaneously until the message " Enter New Password " appears if forget current Password.
  • Then input new Password. [Should enter a password.  The TV won't work without a password.  Remember the new password for future use.  Write it down, and keep safe.]
