How to remove Device feet
The device feet are adhesive-backed rubber pads. The feet are included in the Rubber Kit, spare part number 504613-001. There are 4 rubber feet that are installed on the base enclosure in the locations illustrated below.

How to remove Battery

Before disassembling the device, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the device. If you are unsure whether the device is off or in Hibernation, turn the device on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the device.
3. Disconnect the power from the device by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the device.
Remove the battery:
1. Turn the device upside down on a flat surface, with the battery bay toward you.
2. Slide the battery release latches (1) to release the battery.
3. Pivot the battery (2) upward and remove the battery (3) from the device.

How to remove Memory module

Before removing the memory module, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the device. If you are unsure whether the device is off or in Hibernation, turn the device on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the device.
3. Disconnect the power from the device by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the device.
4. Remove the battery
Remove the memory module:

1. Slide the right battery release latch to the inside or “unlocked” position to reveal the release latch for the memory module compartment cover. Use a thin, narrow tool to slide the release latch to the outside or “unlocked” position (1). (The edge of the cover rises away from the device.)
2. Remove the cover (2). The memory module compartment cover is included in the Plastics Kit, spare part number 507317-001.

3. Spread the retaining tabs (1) on each side of the memory module slot to release the memory module. (The edge of the module opposite the slot rises away from the device.)

4. Remove the memory module (2) by pulling the module away from the slot at an angle.

How to remove Keyboard

Before removing the keyboard, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the device. If you are unsure whether the device is off or in Hibernation, turn the device on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the device.
3. Disconnect the power from the device by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the device.
4. Remove the battery
Remove the keyboard:
1. Remove the Phillips PM1.6×4.0 screw (1) and the Phillips PM1.6×6.0 screw (2) that secure the keyboard to the device.

2. Turn the device display-side up, with the front toward you.

3. Open the device as far as possible.

4. Grasp the tabs on the outer edges of the keyboard (1), lift the rear edge of the keyboard (2) until it rests at an angle, and then slide it back (3) until it rests on the display assembly.

5. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector (1) to which the keyboard cable is attached, and then disconnect the cable (2) from the system board.

How to remove Top cover

Before removing the top cover, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the device. If you are unsure whether the device is off or in Hibernation, turn the device on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the device.
3. Disconnect the power from the device by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the device.
4. Remove the battery
5. Remove the keyboard
6. Remove the hard drive or solid-state drive
Remove the top cover:
1. Turn the device upside down, with the front toward you.
2. Use a thin, flat tool to remove the four screw covers (1).
There are three different variations of the covers, each of which is shaped like a rounded square:

The two front covers are short in height and are notched to prevent incorrect insertion.
The right rear cover is taller in height and is notched.
The left rear cover is taller in height and is not notched.
3. Remove the four Phillips PM2.5×7.0 screws (2) that secure the top cover to the base enclosure.

4. Turn the device right-side up, with the front toward you.

5. Open the device as far as possible.
6. Remove the Phillips PM2.0×4.5 screw (1) and the Phillips PM2.5×5.0 screw (2) that secure the top cover to the base enclosure.

7. Lift the rear edge of the top cover (1), swing it up, and then slide it back slightly to rest against the display assembly (2) at an angle

8. Release the ZIF connector (1) to which the TouchPad button board cable is connected, and then disconnect the cable (2) from the system board

How to remove Battery

Before disassembling the computer, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
Remove the battery:
1. Slide the battery cover release latch (1). (The battery cover releases forward (2)).

2. Remove the battery cover. The battery cover is included in the Door Kit, spare part numbers 608384-001 (for use only with standard computer models) and 629879-001 (for use only with Beats Edition computer models)

3. Slide the right battery release latch (1) to unlock the battery.

4. Slide and hold the left battery release latch (2) to release the battery.
5. Pull the battery tab (3), and then remove the battery from the computer.

How to remove SIM

Before removing the SIM, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery cover and battery
Remove the memory module:
1. Press in on the SIM (1) to release it from the SIM slot.
2. Remove the SIM (2) from the SIM slot.

How to remove Mass storage device

Before removing the mass storage device, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery cover and battery

Remove the mass storage device:
1. Remove the four Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws that secure the mass storage device to the computer.

2. Use the Mylar tab (1) to slide the mass storage device to the right and disconnect it from the system board.

3. Lift the mass storage device (2) out of the mass storage device bay.

How to remove WWAN module

Before removing the WWAN module, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery cover and battery
5. Remove the hard drive
Remove the WWAN module:
1. Disconnect the WWAN antenna cables from the terminals on the WWAN module.

2. Remove the two Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws that secure the WWAN module to the system board. (The WWAN module tilts up.)

3. Remove the WWAN module by pulling the module away from the slot at an angle.

How to remove RTC battery

Before removing the RTC battery, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery cover and battery
5. Remove the memory module/wireless module compartment cover
Remove the RTC battery:
1. Disconnect the RTC battery cable from the system board.

2. Remove the RTC battery from the system board. The RTC battery is attached to the system board with double-sided tape.

How to remove Top cover

Before removing the top cover, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery cover and battery
5. Remove the memory module/wireless module compartment cover
Remove the top cover:
1. Remove the eight Phillips PM2.5×7.0 screws that secure the top cover to the computer.

2. Remove the three Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws that secure the top cover to the computer in the battery bay.

3. Turn the computer right side up, with the front toward you.

4. Open the computer as far as it will open.
5. Lift the front edge of top cover (1) until the TouchPad cable is accessible.
6. Release the ZIF connector to which the TouchPad cable is attached, and then disconnect the cable
(2) from the system board.

7. Slide the top cover (1) forward until the power button board cable, keyboard cable, and keyboard light cable are accessible.

8. Release the power button board cable (2) from the fan surface. (The power button board cable is attached to the fan surface with double-sided tape.)
9. Disconnect the power button board cable (3) from the system board.
10. Release the ZIF connector to which the keyboard light cable is attached, and then disconnect the
cable (4) from the system board.

11. Release the ZIF connector to which the keyboard cable is attached, and then disconnect the cable
(5) from the system board.

How to remove Keyboard

Before removing the keyboard, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery cover and battery

Remove the keyboard:
1. Turn the top cover upside down, with the front toward you.
2. Press on the back of the keyboard (1) through the opening in the top cover until the keyboard disengages from the top cover.

3. Release the keyboard light cable (2) and the keyboard cable (3) through their respective openings in the top cover.

4. Turn the top cover and keyboard right-side up, with the front toward you.

5. Swing the rear edge of the keyboard (1) up and forward until it rests at an angle.
6. Slide the keyboard (2) back at an angle until the tabs on the front edge of keyboard disengage from the slots in the top cover

Back cover

Before disassembling the tablet, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the tablet. If you are unsure whether the tablet is off or in Hibernation, turn the tablet on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the tablet by unplugging the power adapter cord from the tablet.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the tablet.
Remove the back cover:

Mid-frame cover

1. Turn off the tablet. If you are unsure whether the tablet is off or in Hibernation, turn the tablet on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the tablet by unplugging the power adapter cord from the tablet.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the tablet.
4. Remove the back cover
Remove the mid-frame cover:
1. Remove the 6 PH0 screws (1) from the mid-frame cover.

2. Lift the mid-frame cover (2) from the battery area

Battery

Before removing the battery, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the tablet. If you are unsure whether the tablet is off or in Hibernation, turn the tablet on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the tablet by unplugging the power adapter cord from the tablet.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the tablet.
4. Remove the back cover

1. Disconnect the battery cable (1) from the system board.
2. Release the battery tabs and tape (2) holding the battery.
NOTE: Be careful not to bend the battery as you lift it.
3. Lift up the battery (3) to release it.
4. Remove the battery (4).

Rear-facing webcamera

Before removing the rear-facing webcamera, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the tablet. If you are unsure whether the tablet is off or in Hibernation, turn the tablet on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the tablet by unplugging the power adapter cord from the tablet.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the tablet.
4. Remove the back cover

1. Position the computer upside-down with the right side toward you.
2. Remove the Phillips PM2.5×4.0 screw  that secures the optical drive to the computer.
3. Push the optical drive tab  to release the optical drive from the computer.

How to remove Hard drive

Before disassembling the computer, follow these steps:

4. Insert a screwdriver or similar tool into the gap near the fan and push to disengage the keyboard.

5. Position the computer right-side up with the front toward you.
6. Open the computer as far as possible.
7. When lifting the keyboard, note that some models have tape  that secures the keyboard to the top cover.

8. Lift and rotate the keyboard until it rests on the palm rest .

9. Lift the keyboard connector latch , and then disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board .

10. Remove the keyboard.

How to remove Hard drive

Before removing the hard drive, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet, and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the following components:
a. Remove the battery
b. Remove the service access cover .
Remove the hard drive:
1. Loosen the Phillips M2.5×8.0 captive screw (1) that secures the hard drive bracket to the computer.
2. Grasp the tab on the hard drive and slide it forward to disconnect the hard drive.

3. Lift the hard drive (2) to remove it from the computer.

How to remove Keyboard

Before removing the keyboard, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet, and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the following components:
a. Remove the battery
b. Remove this service access cover
Remove the keyboard:
1. Turn the computer upside-down, with the front toward you.

2. Remove the two screw caps and loosen the five captive screws that secure the keyboard to the computer.

3. Turn the computer right-side up, with the front toward you.

4. Open the display as far as possible.
5. Insert a flat tool under the back edge of the keyboard near the display hinge. Gently lift the rear edge of the keyboard and disconnect the keyboard.

6. Holding the keyboard at an angle, lift the keyboard far enough to gain access to the cables underneath and release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector to which the pointing stick cable is attached to the system board and remove the pointing stick ZIF cable (3) from the connector.

7. Flip the keyboard over to the left and lay it flat then release the ZIF connector that secures the keyboard cable to the system board and remove the keyboard cable from the ZIF connector.

8. Release the ZIF connector to which the pointing stick cable is attached, and then disconnect the cable from the keyboard.

4. Remove the optical drive 3 from the computer.

How to remove the Hard drive

Before removing the hard drive, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery
Remove the hard drive:
1. Loosen the four Phillips PM2.5×6.0 captive screws 1 that secure the hard drive cover to the computer.
2. Lift the rear edge of the hard drive cover 2, swing it up and forward, and then remove the cover 3. The hard drive cover is included in the Plastics Kit, spare part number 496477-001.

3. Disconnect the hard drive cable 1 from the system board.

4. Grasp the Mylar tabs 2 on the hard drive and slide the hard drive 3 to the left.
5. Remove the hard drive from the hard drive bay 4.

How to remove the RTC battery

Before removing the RTC battery, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery
5. Remove the hard drive cover

3. Turn the computer display-side up, with the front toward you.

4. Open the computer as far as possible.
5. Remove the Phillips PM2.0×4.0 screw that secures the keyboard to the computer.

6. Lift the rear edge of the keyboard 1 until it rests at an angle.

7. Release the keyboard 2 by sliding it back to disengage the tabs on the front edge of the keyboard from the top cover and rest it on the display.

8. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector 1 to which the keyboard cable is attached and disconnect the keyboard cable 2 from the system board.

How to remove Bottom cover

Before removing the bottom cover, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
Remove the bottom cover:
1. Position the computer upside-down.
2. Remove the 8 Torx T5M2.0×3.0 screws that secure the bottom cover to the computer.
3. Lift the bottom cover off the computer 

How to remove Solid-state drive (SSD)

Before removing the solid-state drive module, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the bottom cover
5. Disconnect the battery.

Remove the solid-state drive:

1. Remove the Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screw that secures the drive to the computer. The rear of the drive pops up.

2. Pull the drive out of the socket 

How to remove Display assembly

Before removing the display assembly, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the bottom cover
5. Disconnect the battery.

6. Disconnect the antennas from the WLAN module 

Remove the display assembly:
1. Remove the Mylar tape from atop display cable connector 

2. Disconnect the display panel cable and the control cable from the system board.

3. Remove the 7 Phillips PM2.5×4.0 screws that secure the display assembly to the computer.

4. Rotate the computer upward to open the display hinges, and then separate the display from the computer 

5. If it is necessary to remove the clutch cover or the display hinges:

a. Remove the clutch cover (the plastic piece on the bottom of the display) by pulling it straight up to disengage it 

b. Remove the 4 Phillips PM2.5×5.0 screws (from each hinge) that secure the hinges to the display.
c. Remove the antennas and the control cable from the left hinge 

d. Remove the display cable from the right hinge (3) and the control cable from the left hinge
e. Lift the hinges from the display

HP Spectre x2:  DISASSEMBLING PROCEDURE 

Display panel assembly

Before disassembling the slate, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the slate. If you are unsure whether the slate is off or in Hibernation, turn the slate on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the slate by unplugging the power cord from the slate.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the slate.
Remove the display panel assembly:

1. Rest the slate on its top edge, with the POGO pin docking connector facing up.
2. Detach the POGO pin bezel  from the display panel assembly. (The POGO pin bezel is attached to the display panel assembly with double-sided adhesive.)
The POGO pin bezel is available using spare part number 830346-001.

3. Remove the four Phillips M1.5×2.7 screws  that secure the display panel assembly to the back cover.

4. Place the slate on a flat surface with the display panel facing up and the power button toward you.

5. Insert a case utility tool  or similar plastic, flat-edged tool between the back cover and the display panel assembly.
6. Release the display panel assembly front edge  from the back cover until it rests at an angle.
7. Release the display panel assembly right edge  from the back cover until it rests at an angle.

8. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.

9. Release the adhesive strip  that secures the display panel cable to the display panel assembly.

10. Disconnect the display panel cable  from the display panel assembly.
11. Release the two zero insertion force (ZIF) connectors  to which the two TouchScreen cables are attached, and then disconnect the TouchScreen cables from the system board.

12. Remove the display panel assembly 

How to remove Battery

Before removing the battery, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the slate. If you are unsure whether the slate is off or in Hibernation, turn the slate on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the slate by unplugging the power cord from the slate.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the slate.
4. Remove the display panel assembly
Remove the battery:
1. Remove the six Phillips M2.0×3.5 screws  that secure the battery to the back cover.

How to remove Solid-state drive

Before removing the solid-state drive, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the slate. If you are unsure whether the slate is off or in Hibernation, turn the slate on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the slate by unplugging the power cord from the slate.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the slate.
4. Remove the display panel assembly
Remove the solid-state drive:
1. Remove the Phillips PM2.0×2.5 screw  that secures the solid-state drive to the slate. (The solid-state drive tilts up.)

2. Remove the solid-state drive  by pulling the drive away from the slot at an angle.

BIOS version

To decide whether you need to update Setup Utility (BIOS), first determine the BIOS version on your computer.
To reveal the BIOS version information (also known as ROM date and System BIOS):
1. Type support in the taskbar search box, and then select the HP Support Assistant app.
‒ or –
Click the question mark icon in the taskbar.
2. Select My PC, and then select Specifications.
‒ or –
Use Setup Utility (BIOS).
To use Setup Utility (BIOS):
1. Start Setup Utility (BIOS)
2. Select Main, select System Information, and then make note of the BIOS version.
3. Select Exit, select No, and then follow the on-screen instructions.Hardware Diagnostics

To start HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI:
1. Start BIOS:
Computers or slates with keyboards:
Turn on or restart the computer, quickly press esc.
Slates without keyboards:
Turn on or restart the slate, and then quickly hold down the volume down button.

Turn on or restart the slate, and then quickly hold down the Windows button.
2. Press or tap f2.
The BIOS searches three places for the diagnostic tools, in the following order:
a. Connected USB drive.

b. Hard drive
c. BIOS
3. When the diagnostic tool opens, select the type of diagnostic test you want to run, and then follow the on-screen instructions. On a slate, press the volume down button to stop a diagnostic test.

How to remove the Service cover

Before removing the service cover, follow these steps:

1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
Remove the service cover:
1. Slide the service cover release latch (1).
2. Remove the optional security screw (2) (if it is being used).

3. Slide the release latch again (3) to release the service cover.
4. Slide the service cover toward the front of the computer (4).
5. Lift the service cover (5) and remove it.

How to remove Battery

Before removing the battery, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the service cover (see Service cover on page 57).
Remove the battery:
1. Slide the battery release latches (1) to the unlock position.
2. Left the rear edge of the battery (2) until it rests at an angle.
3. Remove the battery (3).

How to remove Hard drive

Before removing the hard drive, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the service cover (see Service cover on page 57).
5. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 59).
Remove the hard drive:
1. Loosen the 4 hard drive retention screws (1).
2. Release the hard drive (2) by sliding it forward.

3. Lift the hard drive (3) and remove it.

How to remove Solid-state drive

Before removing the solid-state drive, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the service cover (see Service cover on page 57).

1. Disconnect the WWAN antenna cables (1) from the terminals on the WWAN module.

2. Remove the Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screw (2) that secures the WWAN module to the system board. (The WWAN module tilts up.)

3. Remove the WWAN module (3) by pulling the module away from the slot at an angle.

How to remove WLAN module

Before removing the WLAN module, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the service cover
5. Remove the battery
Remove the WLAN module:
1. Disconnect the WLAN antenna cables (1) from the terminals on the WLAN module.

2. Remove the Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws (2) that secure the WLAN module to the base enclosure. (The WLAN module tilts up.)

3. Remove the WLAN module (3) by pulling the module away from the slot at an angle.

How to remove Keyboard

Before removing the keyboard, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the service cover
5. Remove the battery
Remove the keyboard:
1. Loosen the two Phillips captive screws that secure the keyboard to the computer.

2. Partially open the computer.
3. Rest and secure the computer on its left side.
4. Insert a keyboard release tool or similar thin tool into the keyboard release hole, and then press on the back of the keyboard until the keyboard disengages from the computer.

5. Position the computer right-side up with the front toward you.

6. Lift the rear edge of the keyboard upward.

7. Swing the keyboard (1) up and forward until it rests upside down on the palm rest.

8. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector (2) to which the keyboard cable is attached, and then disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board.
9. Release the ZIF connector (3) to which the pointing stick cable is attached, and then disconnect the pointing stick cable from the system board.

10. Release the ZIF connector (4) to which the backlight cable is attached, and then disconnect the backlight cable from the system board.

11. Remove the keyboard (5)
