These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.

+B ADJUSTMENT
  • Receive standard color pattern RF signal, or receive a good transmission signal, and  set picture to “Standard Mode”.
  • Adjust VR501 to get +B (VD631 -) voltage =110 V
IIC BUS CONTROL ADJUSTMENTS & ENTER AND EXIT SERVICE MODE
  • For remote controller of factory.
Continuous push [test] key on remote controller, the TV mode will change as follow:
NORMAL => M => BUS OPEN [you can select “M” ( factory mode ) or “normal” mode.]
  • For remote controller of user
Push [menu] key, àdisplay picture manual à  push digital key 8500 à display M.
Push [standby] key , exit factory mode and TV will be standby.
GEOMETRICAL ADJUSTMENT -MENU-8
Receive standard Crosshatch pattern signal for PAL system.
  • Adjust VSLOPE value to the horizontal line just appear from half bottom shadow. 
  • Adjust VSHIFT value the center horizontal line corresponds to CRT vertical center.
  • Adjust Vamp value to get 90% of vertical picture contents would be displayed on CRT.
  • Adjust HSHIFT value to get the picture horizontal center correspond to CRT horizontal center.
  • Receive standard Crosshatch pattern signal for NTSC system, and again adjust.
AGC TOP ADJUSTMENT - MENU-7
Receive 60dBu (1mv)VH color bar signal adjust AGC value voltage from high to low to   picture noise reduce gradually to be just disappeared.
CRT CUT-OFF, WHITE  BALANCE & SUB-BRIGHT ADJUSTMENT
Receive gray and white 2 steps signal.
CRT cut off adjustment
  • Push [▲P+][▼P-] key to select “SC”, push [►V+][◄V-] key then automatically vertical scan will be stopped.
  • Adjust SCREEN control on Flyback transformer to get the darkest single horizontal line (red, green,or blue, sometimes shows more yellow, more purple or more white).
  • Push [V+][V-] key again, vertical scan work repeat. 
  •  Select RD/BD menu.
  • Adjust RD/BD to get color temperature as x=281, y=311.
Sub-brightness adjustment (use stair case signal)
  • Select SB MENU.
  • Adjust SB to get the darkest step being on or off.
SHIP MODE - MENU-6
  • Select “SHIPMODE”, push [V+][V-]key may be shipped.
  • Note: Any increase the screens of FBT current, the darking single ought   no flyback line, AV state.
