These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Service and Special Functions
Functions of the buttons
i              - Call up the Service Menu, Activate menu point, leave submenu
P+ / P-  - Call up the dialogue line (point of menu)
/>       - Select submenu, change the setting

Calling up the Service Mode

 1.Press button "i" on the remote control.


Menu appears.

 2. Enter service code "8500".

Perform a factory reset
– Select menu item "Factory Reset" in the service menu "Selections" and confirm with button "OK".
– Switch off the set when the colour of the menu item switches
from red to black (do not exit the service mode!).
Exit the Service Mode
– Press button "
i" on the remote control.
Software Version Number
The software version number is shown in service menu.
Autocalibration
Autocalibration must be done after changing the chassis or the panel as well a after software update or factory reset. All device-specific parameters must be checked and if necessary setuped before starting autocalibration.
- Activate service mode.
- Perform a factory reset:
- Connect a PC with "Gprobe 5" software to AV1 socket and switch on the PC and the set.
- Activate service mode again.
- Set menu item "Factory Mode" in the service menu "Adjustment" to "On" and leave the service mode.
- Start "Gprobe 5" Software.
- Click to the input field and select via the cursor buttons (up and down) the "appstest 157" command. Start the command with button "Execute" .
- Switch the set off and on.
PC Input:
- Feed in a 100% colour bar test pattern via the PC input and select the PC input.
- Click to the input field and select via the cursor buttons (up and down) the "appstest 34" command. Start the command with button "Execute" . During adjustment the settings will be displayed on the PC.
- "Calibration x ends" will appear on the Gprobe screen when the process is finished.
S-Video Input:
- Feed in a 100% colour bar test pattern via the S-video input and select the S-video input.
- Click to the input field and select via the cursor buttons (up and down) the "appstest 34" command. Start the command with button "Execute" . During adjustment the settings will be displayed on the PC.
- "Calibration x ends" will appear on the Gprobe screen when the process is finished.
Scart 2 Input:
- Feed in a 100% colour bar test pattern via the S-video input and select the S-video input.
- Click to the input field and select via the cursor buttons (up and down) the "appstest 34" command. Start the command with button "Execute" . During adjustment the settings will be displayed on the PC.
- "Calibration x ends" will appear on the Gprobe screen when the process is finished.
Attention:
The selection of other commands than "appstest 157" and "appstest 34" can effect in malfunctions of the set! Choose both commands accurately!
