These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

SERVICE MENU SETTINGS
All system, geometry and white balance alignments are performed in production service mode. Before starting the production mode alignments, make sure that all manual adjustments are done correctly.
To start production mode alignments enter the main menu by pressing “M” button and then press the digits 4, 7, 2 and 5 buttons respectively. 
After entering the Service menu, you can access its items by pressing “UP/DOWN” buttons. In order to enter selected menu, use “LEFT/RIGHT” buttons. To exit the service menu press “M” button.
Entire service menu parameters of TFT TV are listed below.
ADJUST MENU SETTINGS
In order to enter Adjust menu, move the cursor to Adjust… parameter by pressing “UP/DOWN” buttons in Service Menu and press “LEFT/RIGHT” button. The following menu appears on the screen.
OPTIONS MENU SETTINGS
In order to enter Options menu, move the cursor to Options… parameter by pressing “UP/DOWN” buttons in Service Menu and press “LEFT/RIGHT” button. The following menu appears on the screen.
There are 50 items in the OPTIONS menu, but 10 of them are seen when you first enter the menu. Using “UP/DOWN” buttons remaining items can be seen.
Hue On/Off
Enables / disables Hue option in Picture menu.
First APS On/Off
If ON, TV starts with APS menu at Start-up.
A.P.S On/Off
Enables / disables Automatic Programming System.
Headphone On/Off
Enables / disables the usage of the HP and HP related items in Sound menu.
Vsr On/Off
Enables / disables Vsr.
DBE On/Off
Enables / disables DBE.
Subwoofer On/Off
Enables / disables Subwoofer.
Lineout On/Off
Enables / disables Lineout.
