These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Factory Mode Adjustments
Entering Factory Mode

To enter ‘Service Mode’ Press the remote -control keys in this sequence :
- If you do not have Factory remote - control
Power OFF > MUTE > 1 > 8 > 2 > Power On
How to Access Service Mode
Using the Customer Remote
Turn the power off and set to stand-by mode
Press the remote buttons in this order; POWER OFF-MUTE-1-8-2-POWER ON to turn the set on.
The set turns on and enters service mode. This may take approximately 20 seconds.
Press the Power button to exit and store data in memory.
- If you fail to enter service mode, repeat steps above.

How to enter the hidden factory mode.
a. into the factory mode

c. select option byte menu -> in menu -> out menu

White Ratio (Balance) Adjustment
1.You can adjust the white ratio in factory mode (1:Calibration, 3:White-Balance).
2.Since the adjustment value and the data value vary depending on the input source, you have to adjust these in CVBS, Component 1 and HDMI 1 modes.
3.The optimal values for each mode are configured by default.
It varies with Panel’s size and Specification.
- Equipment : CS-210
- Pattern: MIK K-7256 #92 “Flat W/B Pattern” as standard
- Use other equipment only after comparing the result with that of the Master equipment.
- Set Aging time : 60min
HDMI : Calibration at #24 Chessboard Pattern > Manual adjustment #92 pattern (720p)
COMP: Calibration at #24 Chessboard Pattern > Manual adjustment at #92 pattern (720p)
CVBS: Calibration at #24 Chessboard Pattern>  Manual adjustment at #92 pattern (NTSC)
USB Download Method
Samsung may offer upgrades for TV’s firmware in the future. Please contact the Samsung to receive information about downloading upgrades and using a USB drive.
Upgrades will be possible by connecting a USB drive to the USB port located on your TV.
Insert a USB drive containing the firmware upgrade into the WISELINK port on the side of the TV.
Press the MENU button to display the menu.
Press the or button to select “Setup”, then press the ENTER button.
Press the or button to select “SW Upgrade”, then press the ENTER button.
Press the ENTER button.
The message “Scanning for USB... It may take up to 30 seconds.” is displayed.
The message “Upgrade version XXXX to version XXXX?
The system will be reset after upgrade.” is displayed.
Press the or to select the “OK”, then press the ENTER button
Please be careful to not disconnect the power or remove the USB drive while upgrades are being applied. The TV will turn off and turn on automatically after completing the firmware upgrade. Please check the firmware version after the upgrades are complete. When software is upgraded, video and audio settings you have made will return to their default (factory) settings.
Its recommend write down the settings so that you can easily reset them after the upgrade.
TROUBLESHOOTING
No Power
SYMPTOM
The LEDs on the front panel do not work when connecting the power cord.
The SMPS relay does not work when connecting the power cord.
The units appears to be dead.
CHECK POINTS
The IP relay or the LEDs on the front panel does not work when connecting the power cord if the cables are improperly connected or the Main Board or SMPS is not functioning. In this case, check the following:
Check the internal cable connection status inside the unit.
Check the fuses of each part.
Check the output voltage of SMPS.
Replace the Main Board.
Lamp(Backlight) Off, power indicator LED on? > Check power cable. P/N: BN39-00702F
Does proper Stand-By DC STB5V appear at BD100? Change the Main Power assembly BN44-00202A
Does proper Main DC B13V,B12V,B5V appear at BD105L,C1261,BD101?
Does proper Inverter DC 120V appear at CN801 in IP?
Does proper DC STB3.3V appear at C101? > Check IC105 Change the Main assembly BN94-01628C
Does proper DC D3.3V,B8V,CORE1.1V appear at C108,C110,C137? > Check IC101,IC108,IC102 Change the Main assembly BN94-02077B
Does proper D1.8V,A2.5V,A1.2V appear at C115, C111, C112? > Check IC104, IC106, IC107 Change the Main assembly BN94-02077B
No Video (Analog PC signal)
SYMPTOM
Audio is normal but no picture is displayed on the screen.
CHECK POINTS
Check the PC source
Check the MT5382
This may happen when the LVDS cable connecting the Main Board and the Panel is disconnected.
Check the PC source and check the connection of DSUB? > Input an analog PC signal. Check the connected cable.
Does the signal appear at #AE18,#AE17,#AF16,#AC16,#AB17 (R, G, B, H, V) of IC400? > Check CN1000, PC cable. Change the PC cable. Change the main PCB Assembly.
Does the digital data appear at output of R721-R740,R788-R791? >  Check IC400 Change the main PCB assembly.
Does the digital data appear at output of R1109, R1110, R1113P, R1114P, R1116P, R1120P, R1122-R1128, R1133, R1135, R1137P-R1141P, R1143-R1150? > Check IC1101
Change the main PCB assembly
No Video (HDMI - Digital Signal)
SYMPTOM
Audio is normal but no picture is displayed on the screen.
CHECK POINTS
Check the HDMI source
Check the MT5382
This may happen when the LVDS cable connecting the Main Board and the Panel is disconnected.
Check the HDMI source and check the connection of HDMI cable? > Input an HDMI signal. Check the connected cable.
Does the signal appear at R1027, R1029, R1034, R1036, R1040, R1042, R1063, R1065, R1067, R1069, R1071, R1073(DATA), R1020, R1023, R1059, R1061(Clk+/-)? > Check JA1000,JA1002, HDMI cable. Change the HDMI cable. Change the main PCB assembly.
Does the digital data appear at output of R721-R740,R788-R791? >  Check IC400 Change the main PCB assembly
Does the digital data appear at output of R1034-7, R1039, RA061-063, RA065, RA067, RA068? >  Check IC1101 Change the main PCB assembly
No Video (Tuner_CVBS)
SYMPTOM
Audio is normal but no picture is displayed on the screen.
CHECK POINTS
Check the Tuner CVBS source
Check the MT5382
This may happen when the LVDS cable connecting the Main Board and the Panel is disconnected.
Check the RF source and check the connection of RF cable? > Input the RF signal. Check the connected cable.
Does the signal appear at TU301? > Check TU301 Change the main PCB assembly or tuner.
Does the digital data appear at output of R721-R740, R788-R791? > Check IC400 Change the main PCB assembly.
Does the digital data appear at output of R1109, R1110, R1113P, R1114P, R1116P, R1120P, R1122-R1128, R1133, R1135, R1137P-R1141P, R1143-R1150?  > Check IC1101 Change the main PCB assembly.
No Video (Tuner DTV)
SYMPTOM
Audio is normal but no picture is displayed on the screen.
CHECK POINTS
Check the DTV source
Check the MT5382
This may happen when the LVDS cable connecting the Main Board and the Panel is disconnected.
Check the RF source and check the connection of RF cable? > Input the RF signal. Check the connected cable.
Does the digital data appear at output of R721-R740,R788-R791? > Check IC400 Change the main PCB assembly
Does the digital data appear at output of R1109, R1110, R1113P, R1114P, R1116P, R1120P, R1122-R1128, R1133, R1135, R1137P-R1141P, R1143-R1150?> Check IC400
Change the main PCB assembly
No Sound
SYMPTOM
Video is normal but there is no sound..
CHECK POINTS
When the speaker connectors are disconnected or damaged.
When the sound processing part of the Main Board is not functioning.
Speaker defect..
Check component source and check the connection of component cable? > Check IC400 or Side-AV. Change the main PCB ass’y or side-AV assembly
Does the digital data appear at #27-#30 (Mclk, Sclk, LRclk, data) of IC1203? > Check IC1203 Change the main PCB assembly.
Does the signal appear at L1201, L1202 (L/R output)? > Check IC1203 Change the main PCB assembly
T-Con Board Problem
Symptom 1 : Abnormal Picture

Symptom 2 : No Picture [No Display but the BLU(Back Light Unit) is on]

It is easy to check if the BLU is on or off. If you can see the light as above picture when you push the screen, the BLU is on.
