These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

TROUBLESHOOTING
No Power
SYMPTOM 
The LEDs on the front panel do not work when connecting the power cord.The SMPS relay does not work when connecting the power cord.
The units appears to be dead.
CHECK POINTS 
The IP relay or the LEDs on the front panel does not work when connecting the power cord if the cables are improperly connected or the Main Board or SMPS is not functioning. In this case, check the following:Check the internal cable connection status inside the unit.
Check the fuses of each part.
Check the output voltage of SMPS.
Replace the Main Board.
Check the backlight on, when 18p cable unconnected ? > Change 18p cable. Change Main Power Assy.
Check ‘Main power input’ ? - BD1026 : B18VS_PW - BD1020: B13V - BD1023 : B5V
Check Output of ‘Stand-By Power IC’ ? - Pin#3 of IC4 : A3.3V > Change the Main Assy.
Check Input power of ‘T-con b’d’ - F1(T-CON) : B13V > Reconnect or Change the LVDS cable.
Check Power of ‘T-con b’d’. - L9(T-CON) : VCC12 - TP_VCC33 : VCC33  > Change the T-con B’d.

NO VIDEO ON PC INPUT  
SYMPTOM
Audio is normal but no picture is displayed on the screen.
CHECK POINT
Check the PC sourceCheck the Arsenal, Check the Valencia.
Refer to the next page to check the lacation such a CN1201 or IC201 SVC Manual mentioned.
Check the PC source and check the connection of D-SUB ? >  Input the analog PC signal properly.
Check the signal appear at input of IC901 ? PC_RED : R3245 PC_GREEN : R3246 PC_BLUE : R3247 PC_H_SYNK : R3288 PC_V_SYNK : C3250 > Check CN3011, PC cable. Change the Main Assy.
Check the LVDS clk signal at output of Main board? (TX1~TX4) TX1_CN1 , TX1_CP / TX2_CN1 , TX2_CP TX3_CN1 , TX3_CP / TX4_CN1 , TX4_CP > Check IC7001 and IC5802. Change the Main Assy.
Check the LVDS cable? Replace the T-con / LCD panel?

No Video (HDMI 1, 2 - Digital Signal)
SYMPTOM
Audio is normal but no picture is displayed on the screen.
CHECK POINT
Check the HDMI source.Check the HDMI switch, Check the Valencia.

Check the signal at Input of Main board ? HDMI1 Clk : Pin #9,#10 of D3903 DATA : Pin #4,#5 of D3904 HDMI2 Clk : Pin #9,#10 of D3905 DATA : Pin #4,#5 of D3906 >  Check CN3013, CN3016. Check HDMI cable. Change the Main Assy.
Check the signal at Output of ‘HDMI switch IC’ ? HDMI RX_Clk : Pin#9,#10 of IC3013 RX_Data : Pin#56~61 of IC3013 > Check IC3013(HDMI switch).
Change the Main Assy.
Check the LVDS clk signal at output of Main board ? TX1_CN1 , TX1_CP TX2_CN1 , TX2_CP TX3_CN1 , TX3_CP TX4_CN1 , TX4_CP > Check IC7001 and IC5802. Change the Main Assy.
Check the LVDS cable? Replace the T-con / LCD panel?

No Video (Component)
SYMPTOM
Audio is normal but no picture is displayed on the screen.
CHECK POINT
Check the Component sourceCheck the Valencia.

Does the component data appear at ? COMP_Y : R3065 PB : R3066 PR : R3064 > Check CN3004. Change the Main Assy.
Check the LVDS clk signal at output of Main board ? TX1_CN1 , TX1_CP TX2_CN1 , TX2_CP TX3_CN1 , TX3_CP TX4_CN1 , TX4_CP > Check IC7001 and IC5802. Change the Main Assy.
Check the LVDS cable? Replace the T-con / LCD panel?
Entering Factory Mode
To enter ‘Service Mode’ Press the remote -control keys in this sequence :
If you do not have Factory remote - control
INFO > MENU > MUTE > Power on
If you have Factory remote - control
PICTURE ON > INFO > FACTORY
The buttons are active in the service mode.
1. Remote - Control Key : Power, Arrow Up, Arrow Down, Arrow Left Arrow Right, Menu, Enter, Number Key(0~9)
2. Function - Control Key : Power, CH +, CH -, VOL +, VOL -, Menu, TV/VIDEO(Enter)
Using the Customer Remote
1. Turn the power off and set to stand-by mode
2. Press the remote buttons in this order; POWER OFF - INFO - MENU - MUTE - POWER ON to turn the set on.
3. The set turns on and enters service mode. This may take approximately 20 seconds.
4. Press the Power button to exit and store data in memory.
- If you fail to enter service mode, repeat steps 1 and 2 above.
5. Initial SERVICE MODE DISPLAY State
Stand-alone Mode
To Enter: Press the MUTE > 1 > 1 >  9 >  ENTER buttons in order.
To Exit from this menu : power off and turn on again.
Interactive Mode
To Enter: Press the
INFO > MENU > 0 > 1 > EXIT buttons in order, in normal operation state.
To Exit from this menu : Power Off and Turn On again. (Press
POWER button with general SAMSUNG remocon)
CALIBRATING THE INPUTS
AV
1) Apply the NTSC Lattice (N0.2) pattern signal to the AV IN 1 port
2) Press the Source key to switch to “AV1” mode
3) Enter Service mode
4) Select the “ADC/WB” and “ADB” menu
5) Select the “AV Calibration” menu.
6) In “AV Calibration Off” status, press the “ > ” key to perform Calibration.
7) When Calibration is complete, it returns to the high-level menu.
8) You can see the change of the “AV Calibration” status from Failure to Success.
Component
1) Apply the 720p Lattice (N0. 6) pattern signal to the Component IN 1 port
2) Press the Source key to switch to “Component1” mode
3) Enter Service mode
4) Select the “ADC/WB” and “ADB” menu
5) Select the “Comp Calibration” menu.
6) In “Comp Calibration Off” status, press the “>  ” key to perform Calibration.
7) When Calibration is complete, it returns to the high-level menu.
8) You can see the change of the “Comp Calibration” status from Failure to Success.
PC
1) Apply the VESA XGA Lattice (N0. 21) pattern signal to the PC IN port
2) Press the Source key to switch to “PC” mode
3) Enter Service mode
4) Select the “ADC/WB” and “ADB” menu
5) Select the “PC Calibration” menu.
6) In “PC Calibration Off” status, press the “ > ” key to perform Calibration.
7) When Calibration is complete, it returns to the high-level menu.
8) You can see the change of the “PC Calibration” status from Failure to Success.
HDMI
1) Apply the 720p Lattice (N0. 6) pattern signal to the HDMI1/DVI IN port
2) Press the Source key to switch to “HDMI1” mode
3) Enter Service mode
4) Select the “ADC/WB” and “ADB” menu
5) Select the “HDMI Calibration” menu.
6) In “HDMI Calibration Off” status, press the “ >  ” key to perform Calibration.
7) When Calibration is complete, it returns to the high-level menu.
8) You can see the change of the “HDMI Calibration” status from Failure to Success.
Upgrading the Software
Samsung may offer upgrades for TV’s firmware in the future. Please contact the Samsung to receive information about downloading upgrades and using a USB drive. Upgrades will be possible by connecting a USB drive to the USB port located on your TV.
1. Insert a USB drive containing the firmware upgrade into the Wiselink Pro port on the side of the TV.
2. If pop up is showed, press the exit or or press the No button. (If you press Yes button, display is changed to Wiselink Pro Menu )
3. Press the MENU button to display the menu.
Press the
or button to select “Support”, then press the ENTER button.
4. Press the
or button to select “SW Upgrade”, then press the ENTER button.
5. Press the ENTER button. The message “Scanning for USB... It may take up to 30 seconds.” is displayed.
6. The message “Upgrade version XXXX to version XXXX? The system will be reset after upgrade.” is displayed. Press the
or to select the “OK”, then press the ENTER button.
Please be careful to not disconnect the power or remove the USB drive while upgrades are being applied. The TV will turn off and turn on automatically after completing the firmware upgrade. Please check the firmware version after the upgrades are complete. When software is upgraded, video and audio settings you have made will return to their default (factory) settings. We recommend you write down your settings so that you can easily reset them after the upgrade.

USB Cloning
USB Cloning is a function to download user configured settings (Picture, Sound, Input, Channel, Setup, and Hotel Setup) from one TV set and upload the same to other TV sets. All the user-defined settings from the TV (Master Set) can be copied to the USB device. USB Cloning is in hotel option menu in both Standalone and Interactive mode.
# Cloning from TV to USB: It is an operation to copy the stored data from the specific area on the EEPROM from the TV set to the USB device.
1. Insert a USB drive into the USB port on the rear of the TV.
2. Enter the Interactive menu by pressing this buttons in order.
# Interactive mode :
INFO  > MENU >  0 >  1 >  EXIT
# Standalone mode : MUTE > 1 > 1 > 9 > ENTER
3. Press the or button to select “Clone:TV to USB”, then press the ENTERE button.
4. The message “Clone:TV to USB” is displayed, then press the
ENTERE button.
5. You can Make sure USB cloning behavior.
# In Progress: during copying data to USB.
# Completed: copy operation was finished successfully.
# Failed: copy operation was not finished successfully.
# No USB: any USB is not connected.
Cloning from USB to TV: It is an operation to download the stored data in USB device to TV set.
1. Insert a USB drive into the USB port on the rear of the TV.
2. Enter the Interactive menu by pressing this buttons in order.
# Interactive mode :
INFO > MENU >  0 >  1 > EXIT
# Standalone mode : MUTE > 1 >  1 >  9 > ENTER
3. Press the or button to select “Clone:USB to TV”, then press the ENTERE button.
4. The message “Clone:USB to TV” is displayed, then press the
ENTERE button.
5. You can Make sure USB cloning behavior.
# In Progress: during copying data to TV.
# Completed: copy operation was finished successfully.
# Failed: copy operation was not finished successfully.
# No USB: any USB is not connected.
# No File: there is no file to copy in USB.
# The operation to copy from USB to TV can be executed by pressing ENTERE key for 5 seconds.
