These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Dell Alienware 13

Before Disassembling 
1. Save and close all open files and exit all open applications.
2. Shut down your computer.
 8.1: On the Start screen, click or tap the power icon  >Shut down.
7: Click or tap Start > Shut down .
3. Disconnect your computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.
4. Disconnect all cables such as telephone cables, network cables and so on, from your computer.
5. Disconnect all attached devices and peripherals, such as keyboard, mouse, monitor, and so on, from your computer.
6. Remove any media card and optical disc from your computer, if applicable.
DISASSEMBLING PROCEDURE 
How to Remove Base Panel
Procedure
1. Close the display and turn the computer over.
2. Loosen the captive screws that secure the base panel to the computer base.
3. Using a plastic scribe, gently release the tabs that secure the base panel to the computer base.

4. Disconnect the battery cable from the battery-cable connector.

5. Turn the computer over.
6. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds to ground the system board.
How to Remove Memory Module(s)
Procedure
1. Using your fingertips, carefully spread apart the securing clips on each end of the memory-module slot until the memory module pops up.
2. Slide and remove the memory module from the memory-module slot.

How to Remove the Solid-State Drive
Procedure
NOTE: Your computer can accommodate either one 2.5-inch hard drive or two solid-state drives.
1. Remove the screws that secure the solid-state drive bracket to the solid state drive assembly.
2. Using the pull tab, pivot the solid-state drive bracket and peel off the bracket from the tabs on the computer base.

3. Using the pull tab, disconnect the solid-state drive cable from the system board.
4. Remove the screws that secure the solid-state drive assembly to the computer base.

5. Lift the solid-state drive assembly off the computer base.
6. Remove the screw that secures the solid-state drive to the solid-state drive assembly.
7. Slide and lift the solid-state drive off the solid-state drive assembly.

How to Remove the Hard Drive
Procedure
NOTE: Your computer can accommodate either one 2.5-inch hard drive or two solid-state drives.
1. Remove the screws that secure the hard-drive assembly to the computer base.
2. Using the pull tab, disconnect the hard-drive cable from the system board.
3. Lift the hard-drive assembly off the computer base.

4. Remove the screws that secure the hard-drive bracket to the hard drive.
How to Remove the Palm Rest
Procedure
1. Lift the latches and disconnect the keyboard and keyboard-backlight
cables from the system board.

2. Remove the screws that secure the palm-rest assembly to the computer base.

3. Lift the computer base slightly and push the release tabs on the palm-rest assembly until it pops out.

4. Turn the computer over and open the display as far as possible.
5. Using a plastic scribe, pry up along the edges of the palm-rest assembly.
6. Gently lift the palm-rest assembly and turn it over.

7. Lift the connector latch and disconnect the power-button board cable from the system board.
8. Lift the palm-rest assembly off the computer base.

9. Remove the keyboard.
10. Remove the power-button board.
11. Remove the status-light board.
12. Remove the touchpad.
How to Remove the Keyboard
Procedure
1. Lift the connector latches and disconnect the touchpad cable and the status-light cable from the power-button board.

2. Peel the touchpad cable and status-light cable off the keyboard bracket.
3. Remove the screws that secure the keyboard bracket to the palm-rest assembly.

4. Lift the keyboard bracket off the palm-rest assembly.
5. Remove the screws that secure the keyboard to the palm-rest assembly.
6. Slide and lift the keyboard, along with the cables, off the palm-rest assembly.
