These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

LG HX806CM How to update Network, How to troubleshoot Power Problems – SMPS schematic

Blu-ray Disc HOME CINEMA SYSTEM - LG HX806CM, SH86SM-S, SH85TM-Wupdate Network, troubleshoot Power Problems.
NETWORK UPDATE
To update the firmware by connecting your player directly to the S/W update server, your player must be connected to network. If your player is not connected to network, make a physical connection.
1) Press Home on the Remote Control.
2) Press  Left  or Right  to select the Setup mode.
3) Select Others => Software Update
4) On the UPDATE window, press Right    or ENTER to     check for the newest update.    (Checking will takes about one minute.)
[Pressing Enter while checking for the update will end process]
If newer version exists
5) If newer version exists, the message “A new  update was found. Do you want to download it?” appears. Select OK to download the update.(Selecting CANCEL will end the update.)
6) The player starts downloading the newest update from the SBP server.
7) When downloading is completed, the message, “Download is complete.  Do you want to update?” appears.
8) Select OK to start updating.
9) Update will be processed.
Caution: Do not turn off the power during firmware update.
10) When update is completed, the message,“Update is complete.” will appear, and the power will turn off automatically after 5 seconds.
11) Turn the power back on.The system now operates with the new version.
No power problem occurs when you power on the unit.
NO 13 VA, 6.3 VA
Solution
Replace D950, D951, D952, D953, D954, IC901.
How to troubleshoot (Countermeasure)
Case 1) FLD Abnormal: Check D950, D951 and replace it.
Case 2) 6.3 VA Abnormal: Check D952 and replace it.
Case 3) 12 V Abnormal: Check D953, IC951 and replace it.
Case 4) 3.7 VA Abnormal: Check D954 and replace it.
Case 5) All Voltage Abnormal: Check IC901 and replace it.
AMP POWER
AMP Vcc doesn’t work. (abnormal Sound)
Solution
Case 1) 30.5 V Abnormal : Replace PC901 or PC902 on SMPS Board.
Case 2) 30.5 V Abnormal : Replace IC902 or D955 on SMPS Board.
NO POWER PROBLEM (3.3 VA)
No power problem occurs when you power on the unit.
D101 (NO 3.3 VA)
Solution
Replace D101 on MAIN board.
How to troubleshoot (Countermeasure)
1) Please Check 3.7 VA (yellow signal).
2) If 3.7 VA is abnormal, please check SMPS board.
3) If 3.7 VA is OK, but 3.3 VA is abnormal. replace D101.
4) If 3.7 VA and 3.3 VA (at D101) is ok, check connection status with CN101 (MAIN board) and
CN907 (TIMER board).
5) If 3.7 VA, 3.3 VA and connection status is ok, replace IC101.

NO POWER PROBLEM
No power problem occurs when you power on the unit.
Fuse & Bridge dode
Solution
Replace F901, BD901 on SMPS board.
How to troubleshoot (Countermeasure)
1) Look at the physical of fuse F901.
2) Check the bridge diode BD901.
