These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Samsung Galaxy S 3

DISASSEMBLING PROCEDURE

On the headphone jack side of the phone, insert the plastic opening tool in the notch that is in the back case. Working your way around the entire phone, gently free the clips. Remove the back case from the phone.

Using the plastic opening tool, pry the battery up and out of its secured location.

Now that the SIM card and the microSD card are easily accessible, remove them from the phone.

Headphone Jack/Speaker Assembly

Locate and remove the ten small Phillips screws (#00) that secure the plastic frame to the front panel assembly.
Locate the connector for the headphone jack/ speaker assembly. Using the plastic opening tool, pry it up and out of its socket.

With the headphone jack/speaker assembly disconnected from the motherboard, use the plastic opening tool and pry it out from the phone.

Rear-Facing Camera

For the next few steps, the plastic opening tool will be used to disconnect several connections to allow you to remove the phone’s motherboard.
Start with the front-facing camera connector. Locate it and pry it up and out of its socket.
The touch screen digitizer connector is next. Locate it and pry it up from its socket.

Now, locate the LCD data cable and pry it up and out of its socket.

The Wi-Fi antenna plug is the last connection to be disconnected from the motherboard. Locate it and pry it from its plug.

Locate and remove the one small Phillips screw (#00) that secures the motherboard into the phone.

With all the connections and the one small screw securing the board down removed, carefully remove the motherboard from the phone.

Still attached to the motherboard is the rear-facing camera. Using the plastic opening tool, pry up the camera connector.

You can now remove the rear-facing camera from the motherboard.

Locate and remove the one small Phillips screw (#00) that secures the front facing camera into the phone.

Using the plastic opening tool, pry the front facing camera assembly out from the phone.

Wi-Fi Antenna

Using the spudger, gently maneuver and work the Wi-Fi antenna away from the front display assembly.

Volume Button & Ear Speaker Cable

Utilizing the flat end of the spudger, maneuver the ribbon wire for the volume buttons and the ear speaker out and away from the phone.
Using the spudger, from behind the volume button, gently push the button out of the phone’s case.

Repeat the same process from the previous step to remove the power button.

LCD & Touch Screen Digitizer

Remove the rubber microphone grommet from the phone.

At this time, the LCD & touch screen are fused together and cannot be separated. They are secured to the frame of the phone using a lot of adhesive that will require heat and patience to separate. This procedure is recommended only on phones with CRACKED or ALREADY BROKEN screens that require replacement. The separation of the LCD & touch screen digitizer could cause damage to a perfectly working LCD or touch screen.
Use the heat gun/blow drier to begin heating the adhesive securing the LCD & touch screen digitizer assembly to the phone’s frame. This will loosen the connection of the two.

With the plastic opening tool, find the seam of where the display assembly meets the frame. Slip the opening tool in this seam and pry the two pieces apart. Work your way around the entire display assembly until they are separated.

With enough patience, the assistance of the heat gun/blow drier, and the plastic opening tool, you will be able to successfully separate the display assembly from the phone’s frame for replacement.
