REPAIRING AND NOT THROWING AWAY

In Brief: On this site you will find pictures and technical information about Service Modes, Circuit Diagrams, Firmware Update procedure, Disassemble procedure, Universal remote control set-up codes, Troubleshooting and more....

If you go into the profession, you will obtain or have access to a variety of tech tips databases HERE IT IS Master Electronics Repair !.

These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution. In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Happy repairing!

General recommendations for repairing TV LCD
It is advisable to start the repair and diagnostics of the SONY KDL-26L4000 TV with a careful external examination of the internal and external elements, including case parts, a display, buttons and cables. Often, by the external signs and nature of some damage, it is possible to draw preliminary conclusions and determine a further algorithm for troubleshooting. In most cases, the repairman can guess the causes of the defect and possible consequences by the characteristic signs of typical TV defects, for example, ring cracks formed in the soldering of element leads, swollen rectifier filter capacitors, charred resistors and other circuit elements.
In cases where the SONY KDL-26L4000 TV does not turn on, does not respond to the remote control and buttons, no indicators on the front panel light up or blink, and there are no sounds and no signs of operability when turning on, the G1D power supply module is most likely to be faulty (26 ) DPS-175JP or, which is much less common, there is no processor power on the motherboard. When diagnosing and repairing the G1D (26) DPS-175JP power supply unit, first of all, it is necessary to check the fuse, and if it is broken, the power switch K3569 and rectifier bridge diodes should be checked for avalanche (thermal) breakdown.
It should be remembered that the N-FET keys used in flyback converters rarely fail for no reason that must be sought by checking other elements of the circuit. Often the breakdown is caused by malfunctions of electrolytic capacitors or semiconductor elements in the primary circuit, or by a break in the resistors in the stabilization circuits. The PWM controller chip may also cause a breakdown of the power switch of the converter.
If the power module uses an active KKM circuit (power factor control), troubleshooting is somewhat more complicated.
If the SONY KDL-26L4000 does not have an image, but there is sound and the TV is controlled by the remote control, a malfunction in the display backlight nodes is likely. The lamps or the power converter - inverter may be faulty. Often in such cases, when you turn on the TV, an image appears and immediately disappears. First of all, it is necessary to verify the operability of the electrolytic capacitors of the rectifier filter supplying the inverter, and check the LCD lamps by connecting external and obviously serviceable for diagnosis to the connectors.
In most cases, the diagnosis and repair of the INV26S10A REV0.4 sams inverter is difficult due to the organization of protection, which turns it off in emergency cases to avoid fires during short circuits or open circuits in high voltage circuits and during depressurization of lamps. Often, repairmen block the protection circuits in order to make the necessary measurements at the control points of the inverter to identify the causes of the defect.
It should be remembered that in such cases there is a risk of failure of the power elements of the inverter and to take special care. After carrying out repairs, the protection circuit must be restored for further safe operation of the TV.
When trying to repair the motherboard, you should first check the serviceability of linear stabilizers or power converters of microcircuits and, if necessary, update the software (software).
Before changing the ENG37E10K tuner, if it is not possible to tune to television channels, make sure that there are supply voltages, including varicap power (30-33V), which must be measured on the corresponding tuner pins.
Once again, we remind TV users: you should not make attempts to repair it yourself without the appropriate knowledge, experience and the necessary qualifications! Trust the repair only to professionals with sufficient experience in the field of electronic equipment repair.

In the KDL-26L4000 TV, the DPS-175JP power module is installed using the PFC (Power Factor Correction) scheme acting as an active filter to eliminate the higher harmonic components of the current consumption. The boost converter based on the L6562D PWM controller does not allow the input rectifier filter's electrolytic capacitor to be connected to the network directly through open diodes, when the reactance (about 15-30 ohms at a frequency of 50 Hz) determines the charge current. As a result of the conversion, the charging current of the capacitor will be determined in such a way that the envelope of the high-frequency pulses of the input current will repeat the phase and shape of the sine wave of the input voltage. The health check of the PFC unit is carried out by measuring the DC voltage on the capacitor of the rectifier network. In operating mode, it should be around 380V, in standby approximately 300V.

Main features of the device SONY KDL-26L4000:
Installed matrix (LCD panel) LTA260AP01.
The matrix control uses the Timing Controller (T-CON) 260AP01C2LV1.3.
The INV26S10A inverter is used to power the backlight lamps, it is controlled by the OZ9966SN PWM controller (24). A transformer LT-U2610-1 (2) is installed in the inverter converter. As power elements of the inverter, keys of the AOD486A type are used.
The necessary supply voltages for all nodes of the SONY KDL-26L4000 TV are generated by the DPS-175JP power supply module or its analogs using L6562D (PFC), DLA001D (PWM Resonant), MIP2H2 (Standby) microcircuits and 2SK3569, STP20NM60FP power switches.
MainBoard - the main board (motherboard) is a module 1-857-143-B, using chips PNX8541E1 / 2009, E5116AJBG, CXB1444R and others.
The ENG37E10K tuner provides TV reception and channel tuning.
