DISASSEMBLING PROCEDURE 

Before removing the disassembling the computer, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.

How Remove the keyboard/top cover:
1. Close the computer.
2. Turn the computer upside down with the front toward you.
3. Remove the two rubber screw covers (1).
4. Remove the two rear rubber feet (2).

5. Remove the middle rubber screw cover (3)

6. Remove the thirteen Phillips PM1.9×5.7 screws that secure the keyboard/top cover to the base enclosure.

7. Turn the computer right side up with the front toward you.

8. Open the computer as far as it will open.
9. Lift the front edge (1) of the keyboard/top cover until it separates from the front edge of the base enclosure.
10. Lift the left (2) and right sides of the keyboard/top cover until they separate from the left and right sides of the base enclosure.
11. Disconnect the battery cable (3) from the system board.
12. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector (4) to which the keyboard cable is attached, and then disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board.
13. Release the ZIF connector (5) to which the TouchPad cable is attached, and then disconnect the TouchPadd cable from the system board.

14. Remove keyboard/top cover (6) by sliding it forward.

Reverse this procedure to install the keyboard/top cover.

How to remover TouchPad

Before removing the TouchPad, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the keyboard/top cover.
Remove the TouchPad button board:
1. Turn the keyboard/top cover upside down with the front toward you.
2. Detach the TouchPad cable (1) from the keyboard/top cover. (The TouchPad cable is attached to the keyboard/top cover with double-sided adhesive.)
3. Remove the two Phillips PM1.9×2.4 broad head screws (2) that secure the TouchPad to the keyboard/top cover.
4. Detach the two pieces of grounding tape (3) that secure the TouchPad to the keyboard/top cover.
5. Release the TouchPad (4) by pressing it through the opening in the keyboard/top cover..

6. Remove the TouchPad (5) and cable.

Reverse this procedure to install the TouchPad.

How to Remove WWAN module

Before removing the WWAN module, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the keyboard/top cover .
Remove the WWAN module:
1. Disconnect the WWAN antenna cables (1) from the terminals on the WWAN module.

2. Remove the Phillips PM1.9×4.2 screw (2) that secures the WWAN module to the base enclosure. (The WWAN module tilts up.)

3. Remove the WWAN module (3) by pulling the module away from the slot at an angle.

How to remove Battery

Before removing the battery, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the keyboard/top cover.
Remove the battery:
1. Remove the eight Phillips PM1.9×2.8 screws (1) that secure the battery to the base enclosure.
2. Detach the connector board cable (2) from the battery. (The connector board cable is attached to the battery with double-sided adhesive.)
3. Lift the front edge of the battery (3) until it rests at an angle.
4. Remove the battery (4) by sliding it up and forward at an angle.

How to remove Connector board

Before removing the connector board, follow these steps:

1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the keyboard/top cover.

Remove the connector board: 1. Release the ZIF connector (1) to which the connector board ribbon cable is attached, and then disconnect the connector board ribbon cable from the system board.
2. Detach the connector board cable (2) from the battery. (The connector board cable is attached to the battery with double-sided adhesive.)
3. Remove the two Philllips PM1.9×2.4 broad head screws (3) that secure the connector board to the base enclosure.

4. Remove the connector board (4) and cable.

How to remove System board

Before removing the system board, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the keyboard/top cover,
Remove the system board:
1. Disconnect the speaker cable (1) from the system board.
2. Release the ZIF connector (2) to which the display panel cable is attached, and then disconnect the display panel cable from the system board.
3. Disconnect the WLAN antenna cables (3) from the WLAN terminals on the system board

4. Disconnect the power connector cable (4) from the system board.

5. Release the ZIF connector (5) to which the connector board cable is attached, and then disconnect the connector board cable from the system board.

6. Remove the four Philllips PM1.9×2.4 broad head screws (1) that secure the system board to the base enclosure.

7. Lift the right side of the system board (2) until it rests at an angle.
8. Remove the system board (3) by sliding it up and to the right at an angle.

Checking the ac power adapter
If the computer fails only when the ac power adapter is used, refer to the information in this topic to check the ac power adapter.
If the power-on indicator does not turn on, check the power cord of the ac power adapter for correct continuity and installation.
To check the ac power adapter, do the following:
1. Unplug the ac power adapter cable from the computer.
2. Measure the output voltage across the plug of the ac power adapter cable. The correct voltages are shown in the following table.

Note: The output voltage across pin 2 might differ from the voltage that you measure.

3. Depending on the voltage that you measure, do one of the following:
# If the voltage is not correct, replace the ac power adapter.
# If the voltage is acceptable, do the following:
a. Replace the system board.
b. If the problem persists, call the Customer Support Center.
Note: Noise from the ac power adapter does not always indicate a defect.

DISASSEMBLING PROCEDURE

Remove the upper case and the battery
Step 1. Pry the four rubbers out of their recesses 1 2 3 4.

Note: Each recess is marked with a number, please make sure that all rubbers are put in the right recesses when installing.

Step 2. Remove the ten screws 5.

Step 3. Turn over the Chromebook and open the LCD cover.

Step 4. Use a pry bar to slide through the grooves between the upper case and the base cover 6, and then slowly lift the upper case until the keyboard socket appears 7.

Step 5. Unplug the battery cable 8.

Note: The Chromebook will be powered on automatically when LCD cover is open. Therefore, please make sure that the battery cable is unplugged before doing the following operations.

Step 6. Detach the touchpad cable 9.
Step 7. Open the keyboard socket 10, pull out the keyboard cable 11, and then remove the upper case in the direction shown by arrow 12.

Step 8. Remove the three screws 13 and then remove the battery pack in the direction shown by arrow 14.

Remove the speakers

Step 1. Unplug the speakers’ cable from the system board 1.

Step 2. Remove the four screws 2 and then remove the speaker modules 3.

Remove the LCD module

Step 1. Unplug the LCD cable 1.

Step 2. Remove the four screws 2 that fix the LCD module to the base cover.

Step 3. Lift up the LCD module to detach it from the base cover 3.

Remove the LCD bezel

Step 1. Pry the six rubber pads 1 from the LCD bezel.

Step 2. Remove the six screws 2.

Step 3. Insert the screwdriver between one inner side of the LCD bezel and the LCD panel and then carefully pull the LCD bezel outwards. Repeat this action along the inner edges of the LCD bezel until all hooks that secure the LCD bezel are detached.

Step 4. Remove the LCD bezel 3.

DISASSEMBLING PROCEDURE

How to remove Battery

Before disassembling the computer, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
Remove the battery:
1. Turn the computer upside down on a flat surface.
2. Slide the battery release lock (1) far enough that it rests in the unlocked position.
3. Slide the battery release latch (2) to release the battery.
4. Slide the battery (3) from the middle to remove it from the computer.

How to remove Computer feet

The computer feet are adhesive-backed rubber pads. There are 5 rubber feet that attach to the base enclosure in the locations illustrated below.

How to remove Display panel

Before removing the display panel, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery

1. Remove the plastic screw covers (1) and the two Phillips screws (2) that secure the display bezel to the display assembly.

2. Flex the inside edges of the bottom edge (1), the left and right sides (2), and the top edge (3) of the display bezel until the bezel disengages from the display enclosure.

3. Remove the display bezel (4).

4. Remove the four Phillips screws for the display panel.

5. Move the panel toward the keyboard (1).

6. Release the adhesive support strip (2) that secures the display panel cable connector to the display panel.

7. Disconnect the display panel cable (3) from the display panel, and then remove the panel (4).

How to remove Keyboard

Before removing the keyboard, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.

3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery
Remove the keyboard:
1. Remove the two Phillips screws that secure the keyboard to the computer

2. Turn the computer right-side up with the front toward you. Open the display and stand the computer on its right side. Insert a thin tool through the keyboard access hole. (The keyboard icon indicates the keyboard access hole.) Push firmly on the bottom of the keyboard until it disengages from the computer.

3. Turn the computer right-side up with the front toward you and open the display.

4. Gently slide your finger along the top edge of the keyboard to release the keyboard clips. Lift up on the rear of the keyboard.

5. Tilt the keyboard forward (1) onto the palm rest. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector (2) to which the keyboard cable is attached, and then disconnect the keyboard cable (3) from the system board.

6. Remove the keyboard.

How to remove Top cover

Before removing the top cover, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 20).
5. Remove the keyboard (see Keyboard on page 24).
Remove the top cover:
1. Remove the seven Phillips screws that secure the top cover to the base enclosure.

2. Disconnect the power button cable (1) and the TouchPad cable (2).

3. Close the display and turn the computer upside down.

4. Remove the eight Phillips screws from the bottom of the computer.

5. Turn the computer over and open the display.

6. Gently lift around the edges of the top cover (1) and lift to remove the top cover (2).

How to remove Keyboard/top cover

Before removing the keyboard/top cover, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the 2 rear computer feet

Remove the keyboard/top cover:
1. Remove the two rubber screw covers (1).

2. Remove the eleven Phillips PM1.9×6.7 screws (2) that secure the keyboard/top cover to the base enclosure.

3. Turn the computer right side up with the front toward you.

4. Open the computer as far as it will open.
5. Lift the front edge (1) of the keyboard/top cover until it separates from the front edge of the base enclosure.

6. Lift the left (2) and right sides of the keyboard/top cover until they separate from the left and right sides of the base enclosure.
7. Slide the keyboard/top cover (3) forward until the battery, TouchPad, and keyboard cables are accessible.

8. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.

9. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector (1) to which the TouchPad cable is attached, and then disconnect the TouchPad cable (2) from the system board.

10. Release the ZIF connector (3) to which the keyboard cable is attached, and then disconnect the keyboard cable (4) from the system board.

11. Remove the keyboard/top cover.

How to remove Heat sink

Before removing the heat sink, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the keyboard/top cover
Remove the heat sink:
1. Turn the keyboard/top cover upside down with the front toward you.
2. Remove the four Phillips PM1.9×2.3 screws (1) that secure the heat sink to the keyboard/top cover.
3. Remove the heat sink (2).

How to remove TouchPad board

Before removing the TouchPad board, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4. Remove the keyboard/top cover (see Keyboard/top cover on page 25).
Remove the TouchPad button board:
1. Turn the keyboard/top cover upside down with the front toward you.
2. Release the grounding tape (1) that secures the TouchPad board to the keyboard/top cover.
3. Detach the TouchPad board cable (2) from the keyboard/top cover. (The TouchPad board cable is attached to the keyboard/top cover with double-sided adhesive.)
4. Remove the two Phillips PM1.9×2.3 screws (3) that secure the TouchPad board to the top cover.
5. Release the TouchPad board (4) by pressing it through the opening in the keyboard/top cover.
6. Remove the TouchPad board (5) and cable.

How to remove Battery
