These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

SERVICE MODE TROUBLESHOOTING POWER SUPPLY AND BACK LIGHT LED DRIVER CIRCUIT  


SERVICE MODE
This unit is provided with the following SERVICE MODES so you can repair, examine and adjust easily.
Check of the SUM DATA and MICON VERSION on the screen.
Press the MENU > 1 > 1 > 4 > 7 button on the remote control to select "Setup".
Press the DOWN button on the remote control to select "Version Info".
ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE
Prepare the following measurement tools for electrical adjustments.
1. Pattern Generator
On-Screen Display Adjustment
1. Press the MENU > 1 > 1 > 4 > 7 button on the remote control.
2. Press the DOWN button on the remote control.
3. Select the "Video" menu, then press ENTER button on the remote control.
4. Select the "Color Temperature" menu , then press ENTER button on the remote control.
WHITE BALANCE ADJUSTMENT 
1. Place the set in Aging Test for more than 15 minutes.
2. Please select input About mode to adjust W/B.
3. Receive the gray scale pattern from the Pattern Generator.
4. Press the INPUT SELECT button on the remote control to set to the AV mode.
5. Using the remote control, set the brightness and contrast to normal position.
6. Press the MENU > 1 > 1 > 4 > 7 button on the remote control.
7. Press the DOWN button on the remote control.
8. Select the "Video" menu, then press ENTER button on the remote control.
9. Select the "Color Temperature" menu , then press ENTER button on the remote control.
10. Press the UP/DOWN button on the remote control to select the "R Gain", "G Gain", "B Gain", "R Offset", "G Offset", "B Offset.
11. Adjust the LEFT/RIGHT button on the remote control to whiten the R Gain, G Gain, B Gain, R Offset, G Offset, B Offset at each step tone sections equally..
12. Perform the above adjustments 10 and 11 until the white color is achieved.

TROUBLESHOOTING
POWER DOES NOT TURN ON
Is F501 broken? > Change F501.
Is there voltage C502 305VDC? > Check D507, D508, D518, D510 and peripheral circuit.
Is there voltage at pin6 of IC501 21VDC? > Check IC501 and peripheral circuit.
Is there voltage Q501 169VDC? > Change R510 and peripheral circuit.
Is there voltage at pin 8 of IC501 169VDC? > Check D505 and peripheral circuit.
Is there voltage at pin1 of IC501 5.7VDC? > Check R516, R534 and peripheral circuit.
THE PICTURE APPEARS, BUT THERE IS NO AUDIO
Is SP WIRE CONNECTOR connected? > Connect SP WIRE CONNECTOR.
Is there signal at wave (SP.Lift) and wave (SP.Right)? > Change SPEAKER.
Is there signal at pins 1 and 9 of IC YD1517(F)? > Check IC YD1517(F) and peripheral circuit.
Is there signal at pins 1 and 9 of IC YD1517(F)? > Check IC YD1517(F) and peripheral circuit.
Is there voltage at pin 7 of IC YD1517(F) +12VDC? > Check D514 and peripheral circuit.
THE PICTURE DOES NOT APPEAR
Does backlight shine? >  Check IC7001 and peripheral circuit.
Is there voltage at pin2 12VDC? > Check D514 and L503 and peripheral circuit.
Is there voltage at pin7 of IC 7001 5VDC? > Check R7003 and peripheral circuit.
Change IC 7001.
THE COLOR DOES NOT APPEAR
Is Setting of color Normal? > Adjust the color.
Is the color signal received? > Receive the color signal.
Is there color signal at IC MT5310CHHU? > Check IC MT5310CHHU and peripheral circuit.
Change IC MT5310CHHU.
