These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

TREADMILL TROUBLESHOOTING AND RUNNING BELT TENSIONING 


TREADMILL NOT POWERING ON
a. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a surge suppressor, and that the surge suppressor is plugged into a properly grounded outlet, Use only a single-outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specification according to the treadmill spec.
b. After the power cord has been plugged in, make sure that the key is fully inserted into the console.
c.Check the reset/off circuit breaker located on the treadmill frame near the power cord. If the switch protrudes as shown, the circuit breaker has tripped. To reset the circuit breaker, wait for five minutes and then press the switch to the reset position.
TREADMILL STOPS INTERMITTENTLY
a. Check the reset/off circuit breaker (see the drawing above). If the circuit breaker has tripped, wait for five minutes and then press the switch to the reset position.
b. Make sure that the power cord is plugged in. If the power cord is plugged in, unplug it, wait for five minutes, and then plug it back in.
c. Remove the key from the console. Reinsert the key fully into the console.
d. If the treadmill still will not run, please call our Customer Service Department, toll-free.
DISPLAY CONSOLE GOES ONE AND OF INDETERMINATELY 
a. Remove the key from the console and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Remove the two indicated Screws (4) from the front of the treadmill. Insert the tip of a slotted screwdriver between the Hood (58) and the Frame (28) and against the tab on the bottom of the Hood in the location shown. Carefully lift the Hood while pressing on the tab with the screwdriver. Repeat on the other side. Remove the Hood.

Locate the Reed Switch (38) and the Magnet (40) on the left side of the Pulley (131). Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch. Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the Reed Switch is about 1/8". If necessary, use a slotted screwdriver to move the Reed Switch slightly. Then, reattach the Hood (58). Run the treadmill for a few minutes to check for a correct speed reading.

TREADMILL BELT SLOWING DOWN OR SLIPPING
a. Use only a single-outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications
b, If the walking belt is overtightened, treadmill performance may decrease and the walking belt may become damaged. Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Using the allen wrench, turn both rear roller adjustment bolts counterclockwise, 1/4 of a turn. When the walking belt is properly tightened, you should be able to lift each side of the walking belt 3 to 4 inches off the walking platform. Be careful to keep the walking belt centered. Plug in the power cord, insert the key, and run the treadmill for a few minutes. Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened.

c. If the walking belt still slows when walked on, please call our Customer Service Department, tollfree.
WALKING BELT MOVING TO LEFT OR RIGHT
a. If the walking belt is off-center, remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. If the walking belt has shifted to the left, use the allen wrench to turn the left rear roller bolt clockwise 1/2 of a turn; if the walking belt has shifted to the right, turn the left rear roller bolt counterclockwise 1/2 of a turn. Be careful not to overtighten the walking belt. Plug in the power cord, insert the key, and run the treadmill for a few minutes. Repeat until the walking belt is centered.

b. If the walking belt slips when walked on, first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Using the allen wrench, turn both rear roller bolts clockwise, 1/4 of a turn. When the walking belt is correctly tightened, you should be able to lift each side of the walking belt 3 to 4 inches off the walking platform. Be careful to keep the walking belt centered. Plug in the power cord, insert the key, and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes. Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened.

TELEVISION RECEPTION IS POOR
a. For the television to operate properly, good reception is necessary. If you are using an antenna, make sure that it is properly connected and adjusted for optimal reception.
b. Check for the problems listed below and follow the applicable instructions.
# Ignition (black spots or horizontal streaks that appear or a picture that flutters or drifts)—Usually this is caused by interference from automobile ignition systems, neon lamps, electric drifts, or other electric appliances. Try changing the position of the treadmill or other electric appliances to correct the problem.
#GhostsiGhosts are caused by the television signal following two paths--one is the direct path and the other is reflected from tall buildings, hills, or other objects. Change the direction or position of the antenna to improve reception.
Blue Screen--If the treadmill is located in the fringe area of a television station where the signal is weak, the picture may be of poor quality or a blue screen may appear. If the signal is weak, it may be necessary to install an external antenna to improve the picture.
Note: If one of these symptoms appears when the cable from a CATV company is connected, the symptom may be caused by the local company broadcast.
THE REMOTE IS NOT FUNCTIONING
a. When pressing buttons on the remote control, point the remote control toward the sensor on the pulse bar. Make sure that the sensor is not exposed to direct sunlight.
b. Make sure that the batteries in the remote control are properly installed. If the batteries are properly installed, replace the batteries.
