These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

TROUBLE SHOOTING FIRMWARE UPDATE AND POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT  


TROUBLE SHOOTING
NO Power Detected (Stand by LED OFF)
CHECK THE FOLLOWING
F1S01 is normal
C1S05B voltage is normal voltage > Change BD01,BD02,BD03,BD04.
Switching operation of IC1 is normal > Change IC1.
There's no Digital Audio Out
CHECK THE FOLLOWING
 Set the Audio on the Blu-ray player to Bitstream
check to see if the A/V receiver can decode Bitstream > Set 5500 to PCM audio and hook HDMI cable direct from Player to TV
Check to see if the Audio Data at R1 is normal > Replace the Main PCB.
check the jack soldering or replace Optical
There is no Audio Output
CHECK THE FOLLOWING
Check the Audio signal at IC3 PIN1,2,23 (Clock data ) PIN6 (Audio data) >  Replace the main PCB.
Check the Audio signal at PIN 13,15 of IC3 >Check IC3 soldering or replace IC3.
Check the Audio signal at IC3 > Check IC3 soldering of peripheral devices
Replace CN3 or audio cable
Disc Ioading error
CHECK THE FOLLOWING
Check the deck power at CN14 (D3.3V,D5V,D12V) > Check the power
Is the DECK cable (between main & deck) inserted correctly > Reinsert DECK Cable correctly.
Change the deck
Remote control does not work
CHECK THE FOLLOWING
Remote control battery OK > Change the battery.
Is the FFC cable (between Front panel&Main) OK > Re-insert FFC cable correctly.
IR PIN1 SIGNAL OK > Check IR or change the Front panel PCB.
Check the Power of IC9 PIN47 or change the Main PCB
NO LOGO (HDMI)
CHECK THE FOLLOWING
Video selection accords with cable connection and TV mode > Check the Video select, cable connection, TV mode.
Is output of Q4 &Q27 high (2.0>5.0V) > Check the HDMI Jack(CN4 pin19) and HDMI cable connection.
Data output from VT(pin11,12,14>19) > Check the IC1 power input and VT 11,12,14>19.
HDMI cable error
Disc skips or freezing
CHECK THE FOLLOWING
 All Media (BD/DVD/CD) NG > Check the Power At CN9 (D3.3V,D12V) > CHECK SMPS
Only BD NG  >  CHECK Q13 Emitter Voltage check Q12: DVD, Q11:CD 4V > 6.5 >  RFP Check Signal level OK BD: over 400Mv (Change the Main Board) >Change the DECK.
Only DVD NG > CHECK Q13 Emitter Voltage check Q12: DVD, Q11:CD 4V > 6.5 > RFP Check Signal level OK DVD: over 200mV(Change the Main Board) > Change the DECK.
Only CD NG > CHECK Q13 Emitter Voltage check Q12: DVD, Q11:CD 4V > 6.5 > RFP Check Signal level OK V CD: over 200mV (Change the Main Board ) > Change the DECK.
No Disc Reading Error
CHECK THE FOLLOWING
Is this issue happen with only specific Blu-ray Disc title > Refer  'Disc Loading Error
Does the unit contain the latest firmware available on the Samsung Web Site > Consult with the Samsung Electronics
Update with the new version and try again.
Software Update
How to Upgrade FIRMWARE
This menu allows you to upgrade software for performance improvements or additional services. You can check the current software version, upgrade by internet and set the auto upgrade notification by using this menu. If the auto upgrade notification is set to "ON" and the product is properly connected to the network, it will automatically connect to our web-site each time it is turned on and download any update files that are available.
Network Upgrade
1) Starting at the "Home Menu" press the right arrow to highlight SETTINGS and press [Enter]
2) Press the up/down arrows to highlight SUPPORT and press [Enter]
3) Press [Enter] on SOFTWARE UPGRADE
4) Press [Enter] on BY INTERNET and the Blu-ray Disc player will search online for the most recent firmware update.
5) If a firmware update is found you must then press [Enter] on YES to begin the update. If you select YES the player will then turn off and on automatically. (Never turn it on Manually at this stage) If no firmware is available you will see a message saying "The latest upgrade file is already installed. There is no need to upgrade."
6) The upgrade progress bar will appear. When the update is completed the Blu-ray Player will turn off automatically.
7) It is now safe to power on your Blu-ray Player
[Note]
# The update will be completed only when the product turns itself off for a SECOND time. Never turn off the product manually during the update process. If you are unsure of how many times your unit powered off by itself wait 5 minutes before turning on the Blu-ray Player manually.
You can also update software using the following methods. USB and CD/DVD are the same as using the 'By Internet menu'.
USB Upgrade
Please follow the below steps to download USB firmware update.
1) Visit www.samsung.com/bluraysupport
2) [Left Click] SUPPORT on the left hand side of the screen
3) [Left Click] the white box in the center of the screen to "Search Product Support"
4) Type in the full model code (ex: BD-C5300) and press [Enter]
5) A list of model codes may appear, [Left Click] the model  that is correct.
6) [Left Click] the FIRMWARE tab in the center of screen
7) [Left Click] the "ZIP" icon on the right of
USB upgrade file.
8) [Left Click] SAVE
9) Locate your USB mass storage device in the SAVE IN window and then click SAVE, wait for the f/w download to complete before proceeding.
10) Go to "My Computer" and open your USB drive
11) [Right Click] on Firmware File (ver_date_model) and  then [Left Click] Unzip to Here
12) Insert the USB stick into the Blu-ray player while it is ON
13) Press [Enter] on the OK to upgrade firmware
14) The power will turn off and on at the beginning of the firmware upgrade.
15) The upgrade progress bar will appear. When the update is completed the Blu-ray Player will turn off automatically
16) It is now safe to power on your Blu-ray Player
CD/DVD Upgrade
Please follow the below steps to download the CD firmware update.
1) Follow steps 1) - 6) above under USB update
7) [Left Click] on the "ZIP" icon to the right of UPGRADE FILE CD or UPGRADE FILE USB
8) [Left Click] SAVE and select the location on your desktop to save the file
9) Locate the saved file, [Right Click] and then select UNZIP HERE.
[Note]
# If you downloaded the USB firmware you will have a .RUF file, if you downloaded the CD firmware you will have an .iso file.
10) If you have a .RUF file you must burn a DATA DISC with your CD burning software and if you have a .ISO file you must burn an IMAGE DISC with your CD burning software
11) After disc is finalized insert it in the Blu-ray Player and follow steps 13)-16) above.
