These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

ADJUSTMENTS
Adjustment method after PWB and/or IC replacement due to repair
  • The unit is set to the optimum at the time of shipment from the factory.
  • If any value should become improper or any adjustment is necessary due to the part replacement, make an adjustment according to the following procedure.
  • Before replacing the relevant part, procure the following parts in which the data have been rewritten.

ENTERING AND EXITING THE ADJUSTMENT PROCESS MODE - STANDARD METHOD
By key-unit.
  • Unplug the AC power cord.
  • Press and hold “V-” and “DISPLAY” keys, simultaneously, and then plug the AC power cord.
  • K” appears on the screen.
  • Press and hold “V-” and “P-” keys, simultaneously.
  • “SHARP FACTORY MENU” appears.
  • Unplug the AC powers cord to exit of adjustments process.
By own R/C
  • Turn on the TV set.
  • Press “DISPLAY”,”2”,”5”, “8”, “0” (the time is limited to 5 sec. approx., to enter this code).
  • “SHARP FACTORY MENU” appears.
  • Press “OK” on lines 5 ~ 12 to go to sub-menu.
  • Press “MENU” to return to main menu.
  • Press “END” to exit of adjustments mode.
CAUTION: Use due care in handling the information described here lest the users should know how to enter the adjustment process mode. If the settings are tampered with in this mode, unrecoverable system damage may result.
MAIN SERVICE ADJUSTMENT MENU
[1] Service Information à Current Software version and others.
[2] Item name à Sub-menus to be checked or adjusted (by pressing “OK” button)
[3] Factory init and Inch setting à Are shown on INIT sub-menu.
KEY FUNCTIONS
  • Cursor (▼/▲) => Moving an item (line) by one (up/down) on “Sharp Factory Menu” or sub-menus.
  • OK => Selecting a sub-menu on lines 5 to 12 of “Sharp Factory Menu” or executing a function.
  • Cursor (◄/►) => Changing a selected item setting value.
  • MENU => Return to “Sharp Factory Menu” from a sub-menu.
The required input mode should be switched previously to enter the Service Mode.
