However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.

General advice for LCD LED TV repair
Possible defects

- SAMSUNG UE50F5000 TV does not turn on, does not respond to remote and control panel buttons, does not glow or blink indicators.

The power module BN44-00612A usually fails with these manifestations. If there are no necessary supply voltages in inverter secondary circuits, it is necessary to check power switches (TO-220, TO252) and rectifier diodes for possible partial or complete breakdown.
In case of diode breakdown in the secondary circuits, the inverter may operate in the emergency short-circuit mode without output voltages, and in case of short-circuits in the power elements of the primary circuit, the mains fuse and/or the current sensor in the source of the key are usually blown.
The breakdown of power switches (MosFet) in switching supplies is sometimes caused by faults in other circuit elements, e.g. in the circuits supplying the PWM controller, the frequency pickup or damping circuits, as well as in the negative feedback (NF) stabilisation circuits. PWM regulators (PWM) Stb, PFC, PWM, unless they have visible housing damage and outright short circuits between pins, are usually checked by replacement.

- There is no picture, but there is sound and all other TV functions work. The picture sometimes appears for a second immediately after switching on and then disappears.

The fault in these cases is usually most likely in the backlighting nodes of the display matrix. Usually the cause of the fault is a breakage in the LEDs or in the connectors of the LED strips, but sometimes the LED driver is also faulty.
To check the LED circuit, it is best to use a power supply with a maximum voltage of 200V. It is not recommended to use any voltage source for this purpose. You can check each LED individually with a simple Chinese multimeter (9 volt) in P-N junction mode. If you connect the red probe of the multimeter to the anode of the LED and the black probe to its cathode, the 3 V LED will light up slightly and in the opposite direction you can find the junction of the faulty regulator. The functionality of the PN junction is indirectly an indication of the functionality of the LED.

If the SAMSUNG UE50F5000 has no picture but has sound, often the T500HVF02.5 display backlight is simply not working. Moreover, in LED TVs the LEDs inside the panel usually fail, more rarely the LED driver.
In such cases, you may see a faintly visible image when external light hits the screen.

Replacing the LEDs requires disassembly of the T500HVF02.5 LCD panel and this process requires a lot of experience and expertise. Do not attempt this procedure yourself; it is not recommended for TV owners or craftsmen without experience in LCD panel repair

If there is no image, but backlighting works - the screen becomes slightly lighter when the TV is switched on and you can see the light through the holes in the panel body when the TV is open.
In this case the panel may be defective - damage to the boards, cables, for example, as a consequence of moisture after an unsuccessful washing of the screen, the T-CON board (Timing Controller) may be defective. But quite often the MainBoard BN41-01955A is defective, software defects are also possible.
The first thing to check is the panel supply voltage, the fuses on the T-CON board, and the supply and reference voltages of the column and line drivers - VGH, VGL, Vcom.
If the measurements are within normal limits, you need to trace with an oscilloscope the LVDS signals from MainBoard BN41-01955A, as well as synchronizing signals to the driver stubs.

Flooded or badly washed LED TV screens can be repaired in about half of the cases, usually if there is no significant damage to the panel stubs and strips.

- Front panel LED is blinking, TV set does not switch into operation, remote control is unresponsive.

Repair or diagnostic of motherboard BN41-01955A should be started with checking stabilizers and power converters necessary to power the microcircuits and matrix. If necessary, the software (firmware) should be updated or replaced. In some cases to repair MB board (SSB) you may need to replace CPU: SEMS29, SPI Flash: W25Q40BL, EEPROM: 24C256C, SOUND: NTP7412S with new or known good ones. In cases of BGA technology, defects are usually located by heating.

Before replacing the BN40-00256A tuner, if it is not possible to tune to TV channels, make sure that the supply voltages are available, which should be measured at the respective pins of the tuner and the software should be checked for correctness. The communication pulses between the tuner and the processor can be checked with an oscilloscope.

I recommend for UE50F5000 TV owners to apply only to the qualified and experienced technicians for any repairs! Attempts to repair without proper knowledge and skills can lead to irreparable negative consequences!

Repair of backlighting after repair. Information from the master.

Reduce backlight current from 240 mA to 160 mA. The BN44-00612A board has 3.6 Ohm resistors R9121 and R9221 in the current sensors of both driver channels. Replaced each with 5.1 Ohm.

The SAMSUNG UE50F5000 LCD TV T500HVF02.5 has a 50" (127cm) diagonal 16:9 aspect ratio. This model's display technology uses LED backlighting.
The T500HVF02.5 matrix and MainBoard software BN41-01955A enable high definition viewing of shows and movies at 1920x1080 resolution in 1080p (Full HD). Input analogue video signal is decoded in PAL, SECAM, NTSC systems. The graphic processing of a digital signal is done in 480i, 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p. Supported multimedia file formats are MP3, WMA, MPEG4, DivX, MKV, JPEG.
The sound system has a capacity of 20 W (2x10 W) with two loudspeakers. NICAM stereo sound processing and Sound Surround surround function are used.
Communication with other devices via an external interface is supported by standard input and output sockets: Antenna input (RF), AV, component, HDMI x2, USB. A headphone jack is provided. A VGA (D-Sub 15) connector is provided to connect a computer or notebook computer to the TV set. This interface supports the standard resolution: 640x480, 1920x1080. Warning. The panel T500HVF02.5 of SAMSUNG UE50F5000 LED TV is expensive and not durable.
Avoid any kind of impact on the glass and pressure on the surface of the screen to avoid damage to the LED panel!
It is also not safe to get liquid on the screen. Sometimes a single drop is enough if it drips down the glass onto the cables to render the television unrepairable.
