These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

FIRMWARE [19DV713B - 19DV714B - 22DV713B - 22DV714B - 26DV713B - 32DV713B [LCD TV/DVD COMBINATION]
Checking the LCD TV Firmware Version Follow these steps:
  • Turn on the LCD TV.
  • Press and hold the [ – ]button on the TV, and at the same time, press and hold the [8] button on the remote control.
  • After at least 2 seconds, release the buttons to display the firmware information.
  • Press EXIT/CANCEL on the remote control to close the window.
UPDATE PROCEDURE
  • Plug in a USB drive with the new firmware. The below window appears.
  • Highlight Yes and then press ENTER on the remote control. The MCU firmware update begins.
  • After the MCU firmware completes, the below window appears.

  • Highlight Yes and then press ENTER. The SYS firmware update begins.
  • After the SYS firmware update completes, the below window appears.
  • Remove the USB drive from the USB service port, and then press ENTER. The below window appears.
  • Press ENTER to reboot the LCD TV.
Checking the DVD Firmware Version
Follow these steps:
1. Turn on the LCD TV.
2. Press TV/DVD on the remote control to switch to DVD mode.
3. Press and hold the STOP button on the LCD TV, and at the same time, press and hold the 1button on the remote control.
4. After at least 2 seconds, release the buttons to display the firmware information.
Updating the DVD Firmware
Follow these steps:
1. Turn on the LCD TV.
2. Press TV/DVDon the remote control to switch to DVD mode.
3. Insert the disc with the new firmware.
4. After the DVD firmware update completes, the “Update is successful” message appears on the screen. After a few seconds, the DVD firmware information will be displayed.
5. Press EXIT/CANCEL on the remote control to close the window.

HOTEL MODE

To set the Hotel Mode,  follow the steps below:
1. In power on mode, set the VOLUME to minimum.
2. Press and hold the VOL [ – ] button on the TV.
3. Simultaneously press and hold the [3] button on the remote control for more than 2 seconds.  The Hotel Mode setting menu will appear.
4. Use the UP/DN button on the remote control to select your desired item, and then press ENTER.
5. Use the LEFT/RIGHT button to set the item to your desired setting.
6. The Hotel Mode has now been set up.
To reset the Hotel Mode,  follow the steps below:
1. In power on mode, set the VOLUME to minimum.
2. Press and hold the VOL [ – ]  button on the side panel.
3. Simultaneously press and hold the 3 button on the remote control for more than 2 seconds.  The Hotel Mode setting menu will appear.
4. Use the UP/DN  button on the remote control to selectReset, and then press ENTER.  The setting items have now been set to their initial value.

*1 Even if the item is set to “No Respond”, the key operation of service mode function is effective.
*2 Even if the three items are set to “Off”, the TV starts up in the same settings when you turned off the power last time.

 (i) Press “OK” on the option item “TV to USB” to start copying. Once it is completed, the value will switch back to “Off”.
(ii) Press “OK” on the option item “USB to TV” to start copying. Once it is completed, the value will switch back to “Off” and the TV will reboot automatically.
(iii) “All the settings” means “Hotel Menu settings” and “user menu settings” (Picture/Sound/Channel/Setup), including “ATV/DTV channel list”.
(iv) Hotel Clone cannot be enabled in the following situations:
> Hotel Clone does not include the factory settings of Backup Zone, such as ADC, WB, Panel ID, SN data, etc.
> The default value of the option items of Picture Setting and Picture Preference (with the exception of “Memory”) will remain unchanged even after Hotel Clone.
 > Hotel Clone cannot be enabled between different models.
> Hotel Clone cannot be enabled between different firmware versions. If this happens, a warning message will appear as below, and the value will switch back to “Off” without any clone action.
The maximum value that Fixed Volume can be set is based on that of Maximum Volume. For example, if Maximum Volume is set  to “30,” the volume range that Fixed Volume can be adjusted is from 0 to 30 or Off.

DISASSEMBLY
Remove the three screws securing the pedestal stand, and then remove the stand.
Remove the fifteen screws securing the rear panel cover.

Open and remove the left rear panel door.
Disconnect the inverter cables from the power board.
Remove the tape and release the LVDS cable from the panel.
Detach the panel from the front cover.
Remove the screws securing the control board, detach the control board and then release the control cable.
Separate the control board from its plastic bracket.
Remove the screw securing the IR board, and then disconnect the IR cable from the IR board.
Remove the seven screws on the main board (left), six screws on the power board (right), and eleven springs on them.
Detach the right and left speakers, and then disconnect the speaker cable.
Turn the power board over, disconnect the AC and power cables from the power board, and then remove the power board.
Remove the four screws securing the DVD module.
Disconnect all the cables from the DVD module and the main board.
Pull out the AC cable from the back cover of the TV.

HOW TO ENTER SERVICE MODE - PANASONIC AG-520VDH TV/DVD/VCR Combination.

SELF DIAGNOSIS
Simplified Self-Diagnostic System facilitates finding the cause of the fault. The following data will be displayed on the TV screen.
The Error Code data is stored in the Memory IC (IC6004) (latest error only). This data is cleared after it is displayed, and then the POWER button is pressed back on.
With power turned off, press FF and REW buttons on the unit together for over 3 seconds.  TV power comes on and the unit goes into service mode.
The following codes will be displayed.
Note:  Press any operation button except for POWER or PLAY (DVD) on either the unit, or DVD key on the remote to detect that a key has been pressed.  The 3rd digit changes to “1” only when key is detected.
USAGE SCREEN MODE
This function is displayed on the TV monitor:
The total AC plugged in AC socket (in days)
The total elapsed "Cylinder rotation" time (in hours)
The total elapsed "DVD play" time (in hours)
With power turned and no cassette, press STOP/EJECT button on VCR and 7 key on remote together.
The USAGE SCREEN will be displayed on the TV Monitor.
Notes:
1. After replacing the Cylinder Unit, press COUNTER RESET button on remote in this mode. Only Total elapsed "Cylinder rotation" time (in days) will be cleared to 0.
2. After replacing the DVD Unit, press ADD/DLT button on remote in this mode. Only Total elapsed time "DVD Play" time (in hours) will be cleared to 0.
3. To release from Usage Screen Mode, press any operation button on VCR or insert a cassette tape in this mode. VCR will return to normal operation mode.

HOW TO INITIALIZE
DVD Section
* Press [1], [2], [3], [4], and [DISPLAY] buttons on the remote control unit in that order.
* Press [CLEAR] button on the remote control unit.
* When “OK” appears on the screen, the factory default will be set.
* To exit this mode, press [CH▲/▼] or [SELECT] button to go to TV mode, or press [STANDBY] button to turn the power off.
LCD TV SECTION
> Turn the power on. (Use main power on the TV unit.)
> To enter the service mode, press [STANDBY], [2], [7], [1], and [MUTE] buttons on the remote control unit in that order within 5 seconds. [To cancel the service mode, press [STANDBY] button on the remote control.]
> To initialize the LCD television, press “DISPLAY” button on the remote control unit.
> Confirm "FF" indication on the upper right of the screen.
FIRMWARE RENEWAL MODE
* Turn the power on and press [EJECT] button on the remote control unit to put the LCD TV/DVD into DVD mode. Then remove the disc.
* To put the LCD TV/DVD into F/W version up mode, press [9], [8], [7], [6], and [MODE] buttons on the remote control unit in that order.
* Insert the disc for version up into the disc slot.
* The LCD TV/DVD enters the F/W version up mode automatically. Fig. c appears on the screen. If you enter the F/W for different models, “Disc Error” will appear on the screen, then the disc will be ejected automatically.
* After programming is finished, the disc will be ejected automatically. [At this time, no button is available.]
* Remove the disc.
* Press [CH ▲/▼] button on the unit to go to TV mode, or press [STANDBY] button on the unit to turn the power off.
* Press [EJECT] button on the remote control unit to put the LCD TV/DVD into DVD mode again.
* Press [1], [2], [3], [4], and [DISPLAY] buttons on the remote control unit in that order.
* Press [CLEAR] button on the remote control unit.
* To exit this mode, press [CH▲/▼] or [SELECT] button to go to TV mode, or press [STANDBY] button to turn the power off.

DISC REMOVAL METHOD AT NO POWER SUPPLY
> Remove the Back Cabinet.
> Slide the Rack Loading toward the arrow direction by hand to release the lock. (Refer to Fig. 1)
> Take out the Disc from the DVD Deck. Be careful not to scratch on the Disc.
PARENTAL CONTROL - RATING LEVEL - 4 DIGIT PASSWORD CANCELLATIONS
If the stored 4 digit password in the Rating Level menu needs to be cancelled
> Turn Unit ON.
> Press and hold the '7' key on the remote control unit.
> Simultaneously press and hold the 'STOP' key on the front panel.
> Hold both keys for more than 3 seconds.
> The On Screen Display message 'PASSWORD CLEAR' will appear.
> The 4 digit password has now been cleared.
TRAY LOCK
Tray cannot be opened by setting the Tray Lock.
> Turn Unit ON.
> Set the DVD to the Stop Mode.
> Press and hold the '9' key on the remote control unit.
> Simultaneously press and hold the 'STOP' key on the front panel.
> Hold both keys for more than 3 seconds.
> Press the OPEN/CLOSE key on the front panel to check the Tray Lock setting.
NB: No indications on the screen when the Tray Lock is setting.
To unlock the Tray Lock,
> Turn Unit ON.
> Set the DVD to the Stop Mode.
> Set the VOLUME to minimum.
> Press and hold the 'REC/OTR' button on the front panel.
> Simultaneously press and hold the '4' key on the remote control unit.
> Hold both keys for more than 2 second.
> The On Screen Display message 'INITIALIZE COMPLETE' will appear.
The Tray Lock has now been cleared.
NB: The above procedure will reset ALL of the player's settings to the default factory state.
DVD MECHANISM DISASSEMBLE PROCEDURE
LOADING MOTOR ASS'Y/START SW PCB ASS'Y/ END SW PCB ASS'Y
* Remove the 3 screws 1.
* Remove the Loading Motor Ass'y.
* Remove the 2 screws 2.
* Remove the Motor and Loading Worm.
* Disconnect the following connector: (CP2).
* Remove the screw 3.
* Unlock the 2 supports 4 and remove the Start SW PCB Ass'y.
* Unlock the 2 supports 5 and remove the End SW PCB Ass'y.
NOTE: In case of the Loading Worm installation, check if the value of the Fig. 2-1-B is correct.
When installing the wire, install it correctly as Fig.
TRAVERSE UNIT ROD/TRAVERSE UNIT HOLDER/CD DECK/INSULATOR
* Remove the screw 1.
* Remove the Traverse Unit Rod.
* Remove the 2 screws 3.
* Unlock the 2 supports 4 and remove the CD Deck Block.
* Remove the 2 screws 5.
* Unlock the 2 supports 6 and remove the Traverse Unit Holder.
* Remove the 4 Insulators.
MOUTH ASS'Y
Remove the 2 screws 1.
Remove the Mouth Ass'y.
DISC L LEVER/DISC STOPPER/LOCKER STOPPER/ ROLLER GEAR
* Remove the screw 1.
* Remove the Disc L Lever and Disc L Lever Spring.
* Remove the Stopper Spring.
* Unlock the support 2 and remove the Locker Stopper.
* Unlock the support 3 and remove the Disc Stopper.
* Remove the Upper Roller, Roller Rubber and Roller Gear
* In case of the Upper Roller installation, install correctly as Fig.
RACK LOADING/RACK GEAR/GUIDE ARM SPRING/MID RACK GEAR
> Remove the Guide Arm Spring.
> Unlock the 3 supports 1 and remove the Rack Loading.
> Remove the Rack Gear and Mid Rack Gear.
LINK R ASS'Y/LINK L/LINK MID/LINK SPRING
* Remove the screw 1.
* Remove the Link Spring.
* Unlock the support 2 and remove the Link L.
* Unlock the support 3 and remove the Link Mid.
* Remove the screw 4.
* Unlock the 4 supports 5 and remove the Link R Ass’y
ARM ROLLER ASS'Y/MID ROLLER 1/2 GEAR/TERMINAL GEAR
> Remove the screw 1.
> Remove the Arm Roller Ass'y.
> Remove the Terminal Gear and Mid Roller Gear 1.
> Unlock the support 2 and remove the Mid Roller Gear 2.

DISC REMOVAL METHOD AT NO POWER SUPPLY - (Disc removal at Emergency)
1. Remove the Stand, Front Cabinet Ass'y and LCD Panel.
2. Slide the Gear Middle toward the arrow direction by hand to release the lock.
3. Take out the Disc from the DVD Deck. Be careful not to scratch on the Disc.
PARENTAL CONTROL - RATING LEVEL & 4 DIGIT PASSWORD CANCELLATION.
FOR DVD MODE
If the stored 4 digit password in the Rating Level menu needs to be cancelled, please follow the steps below.
1. Turn Unit ON.
2. Set the DVD to the Stop Mode.
3. Check that “No disc” is displayed on the screen.
4. Press and hold the “STOP” button on the front panel.
5. Simultaneously press and hold the “7” key on the remote control unit.
6. Hold both keys for more than 2 seconds.
7. The On Screen Display message “PASSWORD CLEAR” will appear.
8. The 4 digit password has now been cleared.
FOR DTV MODE
If the stored 4 digit password in the Rating Level menu needs to be cancelled, please follow the steps below.
1. Turn on the power.
2. Set the VOLUME to minimum.
3. Press both VOL. DOWN button on the set and Channel button (3) on the remote control for more than 2 seconds.
4. The 4 digit password has now been cancelled. [NOTE: No indications on the screen when the Parental Lock is setting.  Initializing password is 0000.]
HOTEL MODE FUNCTION
In power on mode, set the VOLUME to minimum.
> Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button on the side panel.
> Simultaneously press and hold the channel button (7) on the remote control for more than 2 seconds.
> The Hotel mode setting menu will appear.
> Using the UP/DOWN button on the remote control, select the desired mode. Then press the ENTER button.
> Using the LEFT/RIGHT button on the remote control, set the mode to desired setting.
The Hotel mode has now been set up.
To Re-set the Hotel mode
1. In power on mode, set the VOLUME to minimum.
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button on the side panel.
3. Simultaneously press and hold the channel button (7) on the remote control for more than 2 seconds.
4. The Hotel mode setting menu will appear.
5. Using the UP/DOWN button on the remote control, select the RESET.  Then press the ENTER button.
6. The setting items have now been returned to initial value.
Note-1 Even if setting it to "No Respond", the service mode function are effective.  Note 2 - If setting it to "OFF", it start up in same input source when you turn off the power before.
TRAY LOCK
The disk cannot be taken out by setting the Tray Lock, please follow the steps below.
1. Turn Unit ON.
2. Set the DVD to the Stop Mode.
3. Press it in order of "SEPUP", "SUBTITLE", "3", "AUDIO SELECT" and "0" key of a remote control unit.
4. The On Screen Display message will appear.
5. The Tray Lock has now been set up.
To unlock the Tray Lock, please follow the steps below.
1. Turn Unit ON.
2. Set the DVD to the Stop Mode.
3. Press it in order of "SETUP", "SUBTITLE", "3", "AUDIO SELECT" and "0" key of a remote control unit.
4. The On Screen Display message will appear.
5. The Tray Lock has now been cleared.
Power circuit
SERVICE MODE LIST
To enter to the SERVICE MODE function, press and hold both buttons simultaneously on the main unit and on the remote control for more than a the standard time in the appropriate condition.
Press the following remocon keys continuously.
SETUP > SUBTITLE > 3 > AUDIO SELECT > 0
The disk cannot be taken out. [Refer to the "TRAY LOCK".]
RE-WRITE FOR DVD FIRMWARE
>Turn on the power, and set the DVD mode.
> Confirm that the "No Disc" will be appeared on the screen.
Press both VOL. DOWN button on the set and Channel button (5) on the remote control for more than 2 seconds.
> Press VOL. UP/DOWN button on the unit to check if all the keys on the unit do not function.  NOTE: To check if DVD Write mode is set.  When inserting Up-Date Disc at Non DVD Write mode, the read error will happen.
> Insert the Up-Date Disc. (Refer to SERVICING FIXTURE AND TOOLS)
> Automatic read will start and "Firmware upgrade Please Wait" will be displayed on the screen.  At this time, the horizontal noise lines may appear. But no problem.  NOTE: Do not turn off the unit on the way or operate the keys on the unit and remocon.  Up-Date error will happen and cannot be done with the Up-Date of Up-Date Disc.
> Unplug the AC cord, then plug it in.  After the write, set to the initializing of shipping.
> Turn on the power, and set the DVD mode.
> Press both VOL. DOWN button on the set and Channel button (4) on the remote control for more than 2 seconds.
The "INITIALIZE 5 > COMPLETE" will appear on the screen.  Then unplug the AC cord, and plug it in.
CHECK FOR THE FIRMWARE VERSION
> Turn on the power, and set the DVD mode.
> Press both Channel button (1) on the remote control and the STOP button on the set for more than 2 seconds.  Firmware version will be displayed on the top left of the screen.
When the changed version displays, the Re-write will be completed. 
>Turn off the power.
WHEN REPLACING EEPROM (MEMORY) IC
Initial total of MEMORY IC, POWER ON total hours and MICON VERSION can be checked on the screen. Total hours are displayed in 16 system of notation.
If you set a factory initialization, the total hours is reset to "0".  Refer to "CONFIRMATION OF INITIAL DATA" when SUM DATA is not corresponding.
1. Turn on the POWER, and set to the ALL mode.
2. Set the VOLUME to minimum.
3. Press both VOL. DOWN button on the set and Channel button (2) on the remote control for more than 2 seconds.
4. After the confirmation of each check sum, turn off the power.  NOTE: The each item value might be different according to each set.
CONFIRMATION OF INITIAL DATA
If a service repair is undertaken where it has been required to change the MEMORY IC, the following steps should be
taken to ensure correct data settings while making reference to INITIAL SETTING TABLE (Attached "INITIAL DATA").
1. Turn on the POWER, and set to the ALL mode.
2. Set the VOLUME to minimum.
3. Press both VOL. DOWN button on the set and Channel button (6) on the remote control for more than 2 seconds.  ADDRESS and DATA should appear as FIG.  NOTE: No need to set data other position than 0D00~0E3F and 1000~7FFF.
4. ADDRESS is now selected and should "blink". Using the UP/DOWN buton on the remote, step through the ADDRESS until required ADDRESS to be changed is reached.
5. Press LEFT/RIGHT button to select DATA. When DATA is selected, it will "blink".
6. Again, step through the DATA using UP/DOWN button until required DATA value has been selected.
7. Pressing LEFT/RIGHT button will take you back to ADDRESS for further selection if necessary.
8. Repeat steps 4 to 6 until all data has been checked.
9. When satisfied correct DATA has been entered, turn POWER off (return to STANDBY MODE) to finish DATA input.  After the data input, set to the initializing of shipping.
10. Turn on the Power.
11. Set the VOLUME to minimum.
12. Press both VOL. DOWN button on the set and Channel button (1) on the remote control for more than 2 seconds.
13. After the finishing of the initializing of shipping, the unit will turn off automatically.  The unit will now have the correct DATA for the new MEMORY IC.
