These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

HOW TO UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE - HP L2035 - TFT LCD MONITOR

Firmware upgrade for CPU
 
FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCEDURE
There is an application software to upgrade the firmware of CPU.  Bootcode of CPU should be embedded into CPU in production line before you use those application (.exe) file.
Flashupgrader.exe => for Win95, 98 & ME
FlashupgraderNT.exe => for Win2000, NT & XP
CPU software=>Flashupgrader.exe or FlashupgraderNT.exe
I2C & RS232 Alignment KITs(3138 106 10198)
RS232 cable(9pins to 9pins) as below.
1 > Connection for Firmware upload.
Do not connect Mains cord to Monitor at this moment.
Factory mode Adjustment
Entering factory mode as Press and button simultaneously and power ON as Fig.
Use UP/DN buttons to Factory Mode to enter by Menu then appear fig TO SEE CODE VERSION as below
Check Firmware version
CODE VERSION. 0.22 2003-07-29
CONFIG VERSION. 0.22 2003-07-29
OSD VERSION. 0.22 2003-07-29
The updated firmware of CPU
Configdata.hex 2. Flasher.hex 3. Gui.hex 4. romcode.hex
Execution files
Make sure FlashUpgrader or FlashUpgraderNT is placed in the same directory with *.hex files and pwSDK.ini
There two versions of FlashUpgraders for different Windows operating systems.
Flashupgrader.exe => for Win95, 98 & ME
FlashupgraderNT.exe => for Win2000, NT & XP
Remove the AC power cable
After double clicking the FlashUpgrader icon, you will see this window.
Make sure you choose the path of the files.
You will see the following screen Then click Flash.
FlashUpgrader is waiting for the AC reset signal.
Make sure the I2C & RS232 switch (the circled button at the right hand side of the following photo) of the communication box is held down, the orange and the red LEDs light on while the other green LED is off.
Connect the box to the serial port of your PC via RS232 cable and to the monitor via D-SUB cable.
Press the power and the menu key of the monitor at the same time
Hold the two function keys and connect the AC cable.  The download progress should automatically start. When you see a running progress bar like the diagram below, you may release the two function keys.
When the download progress is completed the monitor will automatically be reset and you may confirm the version number in the service menu.
[If the download does not start, resetting the power of the communication box or restarting Windows may solve the problem.]
