Richtige Fernseher haben Röhren!

In Brief: On this site you will find pictures and technical information about Service Modes, Circuit Diagrams, Firmware Update procedure, Disassemble procedure, Universal remote control set-up codes, Troubleshooting and more....

If you go into the profession, you will obtain or have access to a variety of tech tips databases HERE IT IS Master Electronics Repair !.

These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution. In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Happy repairing!

4.SYMPTOM
Low Scart Input levels after replacing the NVM
ACTION
Re-write the data as shown below in the NVM
Page 08 Address 60 Value 00
Page 08 Address 61 Value 2A
5. SYMPTOM
Failure of Q601 and/or Q506
CAUSE
Dry joints on C613
ACTION
Clean and resolder legs on C613. In severe cases arcing from the joint may have caused failure of R610 and L603 in addition to the transistors Q601 and Q506. If Q506 runs very hot when replaced L603 must be changed.
Q601 Transistor Line o/p RH-TX0144BMZZ
Q506 Transistor E/W RH-TX0151BMZZ
L603 Coil RCILP0286BMZZ
R610 Safety Resistor RR-XZ0200BMZZ
6.SYMPTOM
RGB lines at top of screen / picture brightness ramps up to white screen or down to black screen.
CAUSE
A number of faults can cause the above symptom. 1. Corrupt NVM data. 2. Incorrect compensation of the RGB signal due to errors in the sense feedback circuitry. This can be due to Q912 being leaky. 3. Incorrect setting of the screen control on the line output transformer.
ACTION
Take action as required. 1. Reflash the NVM with the default data from this site – ensuring the correct data is applied for the CRT type and Device permutations (see CTV 2002 04 01) 2. Replace Q912 with correct type (this is imperative) 3. Set up the screen setting (G2) as per the bulletin CTV2000 01 04.
Notes: If Q912 gets hot during operation fit a 68Ω, 0.5W resistor on the print side of the PWB between the collector and emitter of this device. Use part number VRD-RA2HD680J to obtain the resistor.
# Although Q912 may read correct, replacement is recommended where intermittent picture problems have been reported.
# The RGB lines at the top of the screen are a definite indicator of NVM corruption (unless a clear frame foldover has occurred).
# The picture brightness will appear to correct itself in service mode.
# In some severe cases the RGB driver IC1801 may need to be replaced.
REASON
Simplified procedure for the G2 and Grey Scale adjustments.
ACTION
Follow the procedure below to set the G2 and Grey scale.
1. Tune the set to the output of a RF signal generator.
2. In the user menu, set the picture levels to the FACTORY settings.
3. In the user menu, set the tint control to its central position.
4. Enter the test mode (see the service manual for procedure).
5. Set the ABL levels in the NVM by adjusting positions 60, 61, 62, 63, 64 and 65 on page 00 to read
80. Store each location by pressing the standby button on the remote control.
6. When the ABL levels have been set, adjust the G2 and grey scale (if necessary).
Grey Scale Adjustment
i. Using a grey scale pattern set the Red Cut-off value to 32 and the Red Gain value to 50.
ii. Leave the Red Cut Off and Gain as above and adjust Green and Blue Cut-off and Gain to achieve
correct grey scale tracking. As with all grey scale adjustments it will be necessary to re-adjust the
settings to achieve good tracking.
Notes
1. There is no need to store any of the gain or drive settings.
2. When adjusting the grey scale, the figures displayed in the boxes are an indication of the CRT’s performance only.
3. These adjustments are for guidance only. If any problems should be encountered the adjustments should be carried out using a Colorimeter as explained in the service manual.
7. SYMPTOM
Volume goes up when a non-Sharp (e.g. SKY) remote is used in the vicinity
ACTION
 Replace software (IC1002)
Take care to note the CRT maker, the Device type fitted as IC1002 and also the device used for IC801
8.SYMPTOM
Set fails to come on (HT present), Text position incorrect, AV audio levels low or other peculiar symptoms associated with software CAUSE Possible Data corruption to the NVM, or poor default values written after blanking or
replacement.
ACTION
1. Reflash the NVM with the default data from this site – ensuring the correct data is applied for the CRT type and Device permutations.
9.SYMPTOM
IC1300 on the centre speaker PWB runs hot or the set is dead set due to IC1300 or IC1302 causing a short circuit on the +/-16V supplies.
ACTION
Carry out the following as necessary.
1. Add jumper wires JL2 and JL3
2 below to reduce the running temperature of IC1300. 2. Check IC1302 for short circuit across the supply and replace as necessary.
3. Check for and if necessary re-solder dry joints on C1306.
4. Also check the condition of IC1300 and replace if necessary.
Notes
1. If the track is cut below IC1300 and jumper link JL1 is fitted it is not necessary to carry out the modification.
2. There are two versions of this PWB. Pro Logic models are not fitted with IC1300.
3. In the case of a dead set, caused by short circuit IC1300, it is possible to run the set by completely disconnecting the centre speaker PWB.
10. SYMPTOM
Set Resets whilst being watched or Switches on from Stand-by on its own.
CAUSE
Problem with Slave microprocessor ON TIMER function.
ACTION
Remove the parts listed below (IC701, R708, and C728).
Faults in the East/West Circuit
When fault finding in the east/west circuit, it is important to ascertain in which part of the circuit the fault lies. Check the control output of IC801 – pin 32. There should be a parabola waveform on this pin at a base frequency of 50Hz. It will change wave shape depending upon the amount of correction applied, so it is important to enter the service mode and ensure that none of the adjustments are at minimum or maximum.
If this waveform is present, and changes as adjustments are made, then the fault will lie in the drive or output circuitry. Faults in this area include:
1. R519 going high or open circuit – it is a 100kΩ connected to the 150V supply.
2. Q506 going short, open or overheating – change L603, L604, D502, D503, D504, D516 and C528.
3. D603 and D604 going open or short-circuit.
4. Dry joint on C601 and/or C610.
If the waveform is not present, or is severely distorted, or the adjustment range is poor, then the fault could be caused by the memory IC – IC1003 or the VDP - IC801. It is recommended that if this is the case, then the NVM is blanked or re-flashed first. If this does not cure the problem, then it is probable that IC801 is at fault. Sometimes it will not be possible to set the geometry correctly in all modes after blanking he NVM. In this case it will be necessary to ensure that the EPROM (IC1002) is correct (see CTV2001 05 04). When the correct EPROM is fitted, the NVM will have to be blanked to enable the correct information to be downloaded into it. Replacement EPROM’s have been produced so that minimal geometry adjustments are required. If the picture geometry is very poor after following the above procedure, the fault will be elsewhere in the east/west circuitry.
