These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

FACTORY SETTING AND AUDIO AMPLIFIER CIRCUIT
Entering and cancel the adjustment process mode

While holding down the TV/VIDEO and Volume DOWN keys at the same time, set the Power switch to ON. (“K” standing for inspection process mode is displayed in the upper left portion of the screen.)

Press the Channel DOWN and Volume DOWN keys at the same time. (The adjustment process mode screen appears.)

To cancel it, turn off the power using the Power switch or remote control.

Adjusting the LCD panel

Common bias adjustment

1) With the set completed, call the process adjustment mode.

2) Using the UP/DOWN keys and ENTER key on the remote controller, select ADJ1 (TAMP) [VCOM ADJ] of the DVP item on ADJUSTMENT PROCESS PAGE 2.

3) Press the ENTER key to make sure the adjustment pattern (flicker) gets displayed.

4) Using the CURSOR L/R keys, adjust the setting to minimize the flicker around the center of the screen.

5) With the optimum setting in Step 4) above, press the ENTER key to turn off the pattern.

2) Set the specified gradation for point 6, fix the most faint colour to get reference value, adjust others 2 colour to minus adjustment for reference values
of point 6.
3) Set the specified gradation for point 2. Set G of point 2 to the default value
[(160 x G value of point 6/960), with fractions rounded] and adjust RB to the
reference values of point 2.

Factory settings

With the factory settings made, turn off the AC power to save them.
NOTE: Do not turn on the power once the factory settings have been made. If the power is accidentally turned on, make the factory settings again.
Do not use the remote controller to turn off the power.

1) Setting is done with test remote control.
2) “M”, is displayed in the upper left portion of the screen by continuing to press the 'Factory Setting' key
on the remote control.
3) When “SETTING COMPLETE” is displayed in the middle of the screen after a few seconds, setting is
complete.
The following settings are initialized together with the factory settings.
