These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

PRODUCT AND DISPLAY VARIANTS Following TV sets are fitted with chassis LM as well as chassis LX:
  • 22LXW 68-8600DL
  • 32LXW 82-8600DL
The chassis types can be identified by the design and type shield.
DISPLAY AND PRODUCT CODE
  • Depending on availability of displays of different manufacturer are built in.  This results in different chassis mountings as well as different software.  Before changing the main board, check whether the labels on the boards are identical.   
CHANGE OF MAIN BOARD OR IC-306.
  • After changing the main board, or IC306, all basic settings in the Service Mode must be done.
PROGRAMME SEARCH
  • Press button "I" [Main Menu]
  • Select 'Setup' with buttons P + | P - , and confirm with button "OK".
  • Select 'Autoprogram' with buttons P + \ P - , and confirm with button "OK".
  • Select required country with buttons P + \ P - , ( < ) | ( > ), and confirm with 'OK".  The auto program system stops at every station data and the respective standard automatically and stores the data.  The system then continues searching.  
  • Pressing the "I" button stops the program search. 
EEPROM EDIT
  • This function is only for development and is only allowed to use by special demand.  Any incorrect setting may cause a defective set.
HOTEL MODE
  • Maximum volume is limited, and there is no access to "Preset List" and "Setup" is activated at hotel Mode.
  • Call up: "I" => 8500 => P + \ P- "Option 1" => P + \ P - "Hotel" => ( < ) | ( > ) "Avail".
  • maximum Volume:  "I" => 8500 => P + | P- "Option 1" => ( > ) => P + \ P- "Hotel volume" => ( < ) | ( > ) Value  0 .... 63.
SPECIAL FUNCTIONS AT ACTIVATED HOTEL MODE.
  • The maximum volume can be adjusted in the additionally menu item 'Maxvol' in the sound menu.
  • In addition there is access to the menus "Preset List" and "Channel Setting" until the set is switched Off [Standby].
  • Call up:  "I" => Sound => "OK" => 4658.
DISPLAY
  • If no picture is visible because of a wrong panel is adjusted, can change the setting by "Blind" adjust. The following sequence of operating steps must be repeated until the picture is shown on the panel.  
  • Call up:  "I" => 8500 => ( > ) => "P -" 4 times => ( > ) => "TXT" =>  Switch set Off and On.  If the picture is visible, then repeat the sequence once again and thereby adjust the correct type of panel (according to display panel).
ACTIVATING THE PARENTAL LOCK
  1. Select the TV channel with P + \ P- , or '1 to 0'
  2. Press "i" to open the Main Menu.
  3. Select 'Features' with P + | P - , and confirm with "OK".
  4. Select "Parental Lock" with P + \ P - , and confirm with "OK".
  5. Activate the 'Parental Lock' with  (< ) | ( > ) {On}
  6. Press "i" to finish the setting.
TO DE-ACTIVATE PARENTAL LOCK
  • Follow the steps 1 to 4 as above.
  • Switch OFF the parental lock with (<) | (>) button.
  • Press "i" to finish the setting.
SERVICE AND SPECIAL FUNCTIONS
  • I  > Call up the Dialogue Center / Close down the Menu.
  • P+ / P-  >  Call up the Dialogue line. (point of menu).
  • (>) | (<)  > Call up Menus / Changing settings.
  • TXT  > To Exit Service Mode.
CALLING UP THE SERVICE MODE.
  1. Press button "I" {Info}.
  2. Enter code {8500}.
Exit Service mode:  Press 'TXT' button.
