HITACHI - 42PD8500TV - SERVICE MODE AND ADJUSTMENTS
TO ENTER SERVICE MODE
- Using the front panel controls with the set turned Off [standby] can activate it.
- Press the Sub-Power button, Input-Select button and 'Dn' button at the same time, and hold for more than 5 seconds.
- Set turns On in adjustment mode with OSD.
To Change the Data values.
- When the set is in adjustment mode, the cursor Left,Right, Up,Dn and OK buttons on the remote control or the front panel may be used as adjustment keys.
- Up/Dn buttons are used for selecting adjustment mode.
- Left/Right buttons are used for changing the data values to the selected modes.
- OK button is used for confirming the data.
- After finishing the necessary adjustments, press 'Menu' button. Adjustment mode is released and the set returns to normal condition.
Memory Initialize Operation.
- Enter the adjustment mode.
- Select the 'MEMORY INIT' adjustment code (No. 658) and change the data value from [0] to [1].
- Activate 'MEMORY INIT' by pressing OK button for more than 3 seconds.
- Select No.525 and change the data value from [1] to [0].
- Check that the receiving channel goes to P1. Unit is set to preset values.
SELF DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION
This chassis has 2 modes of self diagnosis functions.
- PDP panel check mode: It indicates the one latest records of the PDP panel failure with blinking of the power indication light [LED].
- Signal circuit check mode: It indicates the check result on some points of the signal circuit and the history of them with On-Screen display [OSD].
PDP Panel self diagnosis function.
This function is for a PDP panel failure with no picture. To enter the self-diagnosis mode.
- The power cord should be connected to AC line, and the main power switch should be turned ON.
- Turn the Power Off by the Sub-Power button of the monitor or the remote control.
Procedure
- Press the Sub-power button and 'Dn' button on the bottom of the monitor at the same time, and keep it for more than 5 seconds after the power turned ON.
- It generates red blinking series of the power indicator light.
- Any operation would cancel the self-diagnosis mode.
Number of red blinks => Presumed failing PWB
1 blink => Logic
2 blinks => X-sustain.
3 blinks => Y-sustain, SDM.
4 blinks => X-Sustain, Y-sustain, SDM, PSU.
5 blinks => ABUS, ADM, PSU.
6 blinks => ADM temperature.
7 blinks => ADM temperature.
8 blinks => all of above mentioned PWB's.
SDM = Scan Driver Module. [SDM is permanantly contacted to glass part]
PSU = Power Supply Unit.
ADM = Address Driver Module.
SIGNAL CIRCUIT SELF DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION
This function is for the feature of the signal circuit, for example the phenomenon below.
"Sometimes Power turns Off automatically, Sometimes picture disappears automatically"
To enter this self diagnosis mode:
- The power cord should be connected to AC line and main power switch should be turned On.
- Turn the power Off by the sub-power of the monitor or the remote control
Procedure
- Press the Sub-power button and 'Up' button of the bottom of the monitor at the same time, and keep it for more than 5 seconds after the power is turned On.
- The monitor will be turned On, and it will display On-Screen display of the self check result and the failure history as below.
- Any operation would cancel the self-diagnosis mode.
- The following are the OSD symbols and contents of failure PWB in which failure most probably would be allocated according to number of blinks. The latest error code will be displayed at the bottom left of the screen.

C10 => NO SYNC. [SNOW NOISE] => NO CONNECTION OF ANTENNA CABLE . PRESET TUNING IS NOT YET.
H11 => TUNER PROBLEM => COMMUNICATION ERROR OF [U101]
H15 => COMPOSITE VIDEO SW IC PROBLEM => COMMUNICATION ERROR OF 1201.
H16 => COMPONENT VIDEO SW IC PROBLEM => COMMUNICATION ERROR OF 1202.
H31 => COLOR DEMODUATOR IC PROBLEM => COMMUNICATION ERROR OF 1501.
H32 => SYNC. SEPERATOR IC PROBLEM => COMMUNICATION ERROR OF 1601.
H33 => 3D Y/C SEPERATOR IC PROBLEM => COMMUNICATION ERROR OF 1302.
F63 => I2C BUS LATCH PROBLEM => SCL3/SDA3 LATCHED UP.
To clear the history of failure, make factory reset.
FACTORY RESET
Enter the factory setting mode; press the Sub-Power button, Input
Select button and 'Up' button on the bottom of the monitor at the same
time. And keep it for more than 5 seconds after the power is turned On
