These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

HOW TO PROGRAM STARHUB UNIVERSAL REMOTE CONTROL TO BOTH TVs & DVDs



SET-UP PROCEDURE
To program the ID code for a particular brand
  1. Switch on the TV you wish to control with the remote control Press and hold both the TV and OK keys.
  2. Release both the TV mode key and OK key.
  3. All of the mode keys will give 2 short blinks to indicate setup mode.
  4. Look out for the 4-digit code of your TV set in TV & DVD Setup Code List and enter them by pressing the number keys on your remote control
  5. After the fourth key has been entered, the TV mode LED will blink 3 times to indicate a successful configuration.
  6. If an invalid code has been entered the, ALL the mode LEDs will flash once to indicate unsuccessful configuration.
  7. If you are unsuccessful in the configuration repeat the steps to configure the remote control again.
  8. Should you wish to program a different TV device to this remote control, repeat Steps 1-6 again with the selected TV.

To automatically search for your TV device.
  • Switch on the TV you wish to control with the remote control
  • Press and hold both the TV and OK keys.
  • Release both the TV mode key and OK key.
  • All of the mode keys will give 2 short blinks to indicate successful entry into the current setup.
  • Enter the auto-search setup code 9 – 2 – 2
  • After the third key has been released, the TV mode LED will give 2 short blinks to indicate it is in auto-search mode.
  • Press and hold the PLAY key to activate the auto search. The remote control will now automatically go through its database of TV codes to search for a relevant TV device.
  • If the selected TV device responds by turning off the power, this means that auto-search has found the correct code for your TV device. Immediately release the PLAY key and press the OK key.
  • After the OK key has been released, the TV mode LED will blink 3 times to indicate successful configuration.
  • To exit the auto search mode without configuring the TV device, Press the EXIT key. After the EXIT key has been released, the TV mode LED will blink 3 times to indicate it has exited auto-search mode.

To program the ID code for a particular brand of DVD.
  1. Switch on the DVD player you wish to control with the remote control.
  2. Press and hold both the DVD and OK keys.
  3. Release both the DVD mode key and OK key.
  4. All of the mode keys will give 2 short blinks to indicate setup mode.
  5. Look out for the 4-digit code of your DVD player in TV & DVD Setup Code List and enter them by pressing the number keys on your remote control.
  6. After the fourth key has been entered, the DVD mode LED will blink 3 times to indicate a successful configuration.
  7. If an invalid code has been entered, ALL the mode LEDs will flash once to indicate unsuccessful configuration.
  8. If you are unsuccessful in the configuration repeat the steps to configure the remote control again.
  9. Should you wish to program a different DVD player to this remote control, repeat Steps 1-6 with the selected DVD player.

  • To exit without configuring the DVD device, Press the EXIT key. After the EXIT key has been released, the DVD mode LED will blink 3 times to indicate it has excited auto-search mode
