REPAIRING AND NOT THROWING AWAY

Richtige Fernseher haben Röhren!

Richtige Fernseher haben Röhren!

In Brief: On this site you will find pictures and technical information about Service Modes, Circuit Diagrams, Firmware Update procedure, Disassemble procedure, Universal remote control set-up codes, Troubleshooting and more....

If you go into the profession, you will obtain or have access to a variety of tech tips databases HERE IT IS Master Electronics Repair !.

These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution. In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Happy repairing!

HOW TO REPLACE Y-SUSTAIN BOARD IN A PLASMA TELEVISION

HOW TO REPLACE Y-SUSTAIN BOARD IN A PLASMA TELEVISION

Y-Sustain boards are more likely to get faulty to most of the Plasma Scree televisions.  The main indication to this fault will be of blinking standby LED at the front panel of the plasma TV.  Blinking codes, and other details are given here in this blog.  Go to older posts.  Here I give you details to repalce Y Sustain board to a Vizio P-50.

Proceed with caution.  It is costly as well as dangerous to work with these boards.
Open the back cover of the TV.   You must have something in electronics to do this work.  If you are not handy, never proceed.  Soemtimes the repair cost might exceed the price of a new TV.

Keep a copy of service manual to this set be side.  Study it well before start to replace the board.  Just confirm all the voltages are there as stated in the schematic diagram.  All voltages will be stated with it.  If there is a low reading, make sure that there is a short somewhere.

Viewing from back to this TV, on the left side there are three boards.  One big and two small boards.  The big baord is Y-Sustain.  There might be burned resistors or capaciors or both in this condition.  It is very difficult to repair these boards, and it is best to replce them as card basis.   If Y-Sustain seems to be the problem, it will be best to repalce both buffer boards to Y-Sustain, at the same time, because we can't make sure these boards are OK, in this condition.  To the left of the Y-Sustain is the Upper Buffer and a Lower Buffer boards.  Replace these three boards at a time, because there is no way to know whether they are damaged.  Internal faults with ICs can't be detected.   If you replace Y-Sustain board, and one among the buffer boards, there is a risk of damaging the Y-SUS board, if other board is faulty.  You would be out nearly $300 for parts and might need to spend more on these boards again.   There are somtimes revisions for buffer boards with these models.  When buying replcement boards, make sure you are getting one for your TV series.  Make sure the baord you get is exact equalent to that your TV has now.  If you feel and difficulty to proceed with working with this set, stop there, seeek tech assistance.  There are ptentially high voltages will be developed within and around these boards, which can harm you physically.  The Y-Sustain board will have heat sinks over it. Depending on revision boards you purchase there might or might not be any heatsinks.

When replacing Y-Sustain board, replace the other two buffer boards.
