These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

LG - DP-3514 _ DP-2514_DLP Projector Flash-Tool Guide _Service Help.

THIS UTILITY IS FOR 'DLP DDP2000 / 2230 SERIES PROJECTORS ONLY

SYSTEM REQUIREMENT OF FLASH-TOOL

IBM compactable PC.
Windows XP-SP-2 OS [English]
Projector with Flash-Tool USB driver installed.

Installation of Flash-Tool

Execute the file of "Digital Zoom Projector Flash Tool Vx.y.msi". {If the projector USB driver is not installed yet, refer to the USB installation guide, described in the previous post, for more details.

START WITH FLASH-TOOL

Launch the "Flash-Tool.exe" from installed shortcut at 'Program > Digital Zoom Projector > Launch FlashTool.exe or click on the 'Launch FlashTool.exe' shortcut icon on the desktop.

While executed, a Flash-Tool window shall appear as below.

Make sure that the USB cable is firmly connected between projector and computer.
Connect power cord to the projector, and move the power switch ON position; if available; so that the projector is in Stand-by Mode.
Press {Down => Up => Right => Up} keys in sequence by keypad buttons, or by the remote control for those with limited keypads. Power and Lamp LED shall blink and the 'Flash-Tool' mode will be enabled.

Press 'Choose' button to locate the new firmware, which can be downloaded from website; for example; 'DP3622-JAXX-DPD0A.img'. Select the desired '.img' file by either double-clicking the file or pressing the "Open" button.

Note: The FlashTool will validate the signature of the binary image file for upgrading. The "Start" button will not will be enable if binary image is not valid projector firmware.
Press 'Start" button to update the Flash with the chosen firmware. A warning message bozx will appear for confirmation. Press 'OK' to continue.

When the last warning message box appears, this is the last chance to cancel the Update. Press 'OK' button to start the firmware update.
According to the Flash Technology, the old firmware will be erased first. Therefore, FlasTool will automatically erase the old firmware before updating.
