procedure
To
remove the back panel of the device, start by attempting to fit the plastic
opening tool in the crease between the screen and the back panel of the tablet.
You can use your hands to push against the corners of the device to attempt to
make the gap larger for your plastic opening tool to fit in. If you are
replacing your screen because it is damaged, it may be useful to pick away at
some of the glass to expose the clips in the edges of the plastic. Insert the
corners of your plastic opening tool into the slots that are on the very
outside edge of your device to start disconnecting the panel.
Once
the edge of your device's panel is separate from the screen, continue moving
around the outside of the device while continuing to pry the two pieces apart
from each other.
Insert
another plastic opening tool (or a similar tool) between the screen and the
back panel on the opposite side of the device to hold it open.
There
is a piece of double sided tape on the back of the battery holding it in place.
Pull the battery with enough force to pull it apart from the tape.
Locate
the cable connection from the motherboard to the screen. It is a rectangle chip
on the edge of the motherboard. Use the spudger to pry the clip to disconnect
it.
You
need to melt the glue holding the screen to the device. Turn on your heat gun
or hair dryer and hold it approximately one-inch from the edge of the device.
This step may take some time, so be patient. Continue melting the glue around
all edges of the device.
When
the glue is melted, it is time to remove the screen from the device. Starting
at the corners, use the suction cup to pull up the screen as much as possible.
The screen should lift enough to fit the plastic opening tool in the gap. If
the screen is not pulling up at all, continue to use the heat gun or hair dryer
to melt the glue before returning to this step.
Once
the screen starts to detach from the device, insert the plastic opening tool
into the gap and begin to pry the screen. Continue prying the screen by slowly
sliding the plastic opening tool around the edges of the device until the
screen loosens. It may take several tries to get the screen to detach from the
device. Every time you circle the device with the plastic opening tool, be sure
to put increasing amounts of pressure to release the glass. Since the glass is
being replaced, it is okay when it starts to crack. This may even make this
step easier.
Use
the plastic opening tool to push the screen up entirely from the device, You
may need to use your hands for this. If you do, it is advised to use gloves to
avoid any of the broken glass from getting in your hands. If the screen is
still hard to remove at this step, continue using the heat gun or hair dryer to
melt the remaining glue while you are trying to pull up the screen.
Now
that the screen has been removed, clean up the remaining glue and glass shards
around the edges of the device.
