These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

MITSUBISHI - WD-52525_WD-52725_WD-52825_ED_62525_WD-62725_WD-62825_Accessing and Disconnecting Lamp Ballast_Service Mode_Test Signal Activation




  • Remove the Right Support.  Remove the 3 screws shown below.

Remove the Lamp Ballast Shield [4 screws]


Unplug CN-1 & CBN-2 connectors.  Unplug the connectors.


REMOVING THE OPTICAL ENGINE
  • Remove the cabinet back.
  • Disconnect all connectors from the Optical Engine, Lamp Cartridge Housing, and the PCB-DND.
  • From the rear of the TV, remove the 4 screws, to remove the Cover-Duct and DMD fan cover.
  • From the rear of the TV, remove the 4 brass colored screws securing the bottom plate to the adjuster assembly.
  • Slide the Optical Engine/Lamp Cartridge Housing towards the rear to remove from the TV.

Remove the following parts from the Optical Engine.
  • DMD heat Sensor.
  • The Optical Engine bottom plate and back bracket.
DMD Heat Sensor Removal.
  • Remove screw on the top of the DMD fan.
  • Set the Heat Sensor to install on the replacement Optical Engine.

Bottom Plate and Black Bracket Removal
  • Remove the 4 screws from the bottom plate.
  • Remove the 2 scres, holding the Black Bracket to the Lamp.


Black Support Bracket.




INSTALLING THE OPTICAL ENGINE
  • Install the bottom plate, Black Support Bracket and the Heat Sensor, removed from the original Optical Engine, on the replacement engine.
  • Reversal the removal procedure to install the replacement Optical Engine in the cabinet.
  • The following adjustments may have to be performed after the installation.
  1. Horizontal and Vertical Electrical Centering Adjustment.
  2. Optical Unit Rotation.
  3. Optical Unit Keystone Distortion Adjustment.
  • After Optical Engine replacement, perform the Data Copy Procedure described below.
DATA COPY PROCEDURE
  • To display the data copy  menu, press < TV => MENU > < 2 - 4 - 5 - 7 > < 0 >
  • Use the cursor keys to highlight "Copy Light Engine EEPROM to DM"
  • Press <Enter>
  • After Copy Procedure has been completed, Exit the menu by pressing <HOME>
ACTIVATING
 THE CIRCUIT ADJUSTMENT MODE {Service Mode}
  • Press the "TV MENU" button on the remote control.  The customer menu will appear.
  • Press buttons { 2 => 4 => 5 => 7} in the order .  The screen will change to the Adjustment Mode.  If successful, repeat steps 1 & 2.
TEST SIGNAL ACTIVATION
  • When in the Circuit Adjustment Mode, press "REWIND" once on the remote control to activate the Test Pattern.  This Pattern is used for both electrical & mechanical adjustment.
