These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

APPLICABLE TO SAMSUNG DLP TV MODELS:  HLM-617WS _ HLN4365WX _ HLN5065WX _ HLN-507WX _ HLN617WX

Screen Tilt Adjustments or Image Position Deviation adjust

  • Remove bottom cover.
  • Remove the cover of the signal terminal.
  • Fix the safety switch on the right with tape so that the set can be turned On after removing the bottom cover.
  • Remove the four screws on the upper and lower part of the digital board bracket, and remove the whole ass'y without removing the cable.
  • Place the digital board on the bracket on the back, and keep the cable connected. 
  • fix the safety switch on the right with tape so that the set can be turned On after removing the bottom cover.
  • Remove two screws on the left and one screw on the bottom right, without removing engine.
  • Even when the screws are removed, the board does not separate,  it can be moved within the adjustable range because there is a spring screw at the center that holds it.
  • Turn On the TV and send signals.  Adjust the screen position by holding both of the upper corners of the DMD board.  
  • When adjusting the screen, it is better for two people to work together.  One person should direct the picture position while the other looks at the screen.
  • The movement direction of the board and the picture are opposite.
  • When the board is lifted upwards, the screen descends down.
  • When tilted to the left, the screen tilts to right.
  • When the picture adjustment is complete, first tighten the two screws on the left of the EMD board, and then slowly tighten the one screw on the bottom right.  Be careful not to touch the board while screwing.  When using an electric powered screw driver, be careful that the torgue is not too high.
Failure occurs when the vertical line or raster is skipped.  Always make sure to replace the DMD board.

  1. Remove the two screws on the left and one screw at the bottom, without removing the engine.  
  2. When those screws are removed, the board will not separate.  It can be moved within the adjustable range because, there are spring screws in the center area which hold it.
  3. Remove the three spring screws at the center area completely.
  4. After replacing it a new DMD board, tight ten screw spring #3 using weak power (below 8 kgf)
  5. The lightly tighten screws #1 & #2 without tightening them completely.  
  6. After assembling the engine into the set, connect the cables and then perform the same procedure for screen tilt adjustments described above.  
  7. When the adjustment are completed, assemble it by half, and recheck the picture position.  If there is no problem, assemble the bottom cover and tighten the screws.
