These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Samsung LED TV UN32F5500AF troubleshooting, factory mode, software update

Samsung LED TV Models - UN32F5500AF, UN32F4300AF, UN40F5500AF, UN46F5500AF, UN50F5500AF
How to distinguish if the problem is caused by Main Board or T-Con Board.
No Video : If the problem is No Video but BLUE is on and Indication LED is blinking repeatedly and faster than normal booting.
Replace the T-Con Board.
Distorted Picture : Check the inner patterns.
How to check inner pattern?
1. Factory mode. (1 > 8 > 2 > Power on - when TV is in ‘stand-by mode’)
2. Move to SVC menu.
3. Move to Test Pattern.
4. Check inner patterns.
NO Power
The LEDs on The front panel do not work when connecting The power cord.
The SMPS relay does not work when connecting The power cord. The units appears to be dead.
The IP relay or the LEDs on the front panel does not work when connecting the power cord if the cables are improperly connected or the Main Board or SMPS is not functioning. 
In this case, check the following:
Check the internal cable connection status inside the unit.
Check the fuses of each part.Check the output voltage of SMPS. Replace the Main Board.
No Video (HDMI 1, 2, 3 - Digital Signal)
Check the HDMI source.
Check the HDMI switch.
This may happen when the LVDS cable connecting the Main Board and the Panel is disconnected.
Check the Tuner.
This may happen when the LVDS cable connecting the Main Board and the Panel is disconnected.
(Note: Make sure you have an Internet connection, and then go to Menu > Support > Software Update > Update now) 
Go to the factory menu using a factory remote: Info + Factory > Option > Factory Reset. 
Go to the factory menu using a regular remote: Power off > Mute + 182 + Power > Option > Factory Reset. 
Update the TV’s S/W to the latest version. Note: Make sure to download the latest TV S/W from SAMSUNG.COM prior to customer visit. 
Download and install the patch for Screen Mirroring. 
1. Run the 'Play Store' App on the mobile device, and then search for 'Screen Mirroring Patch'. 
2. Install the 'Screen Mirroring Patch', and then run Screen Mirroring again.
No Video (Tuner_CVBS)
Check the Tuner CVBS source.
No Apps on Apps Panel
The TV is connected to Internet, but it fails to load/download any default applications. You only see the WebBrowser app.
1) Update the TV’s S/W to the latest version.
2) Reset the TV to the default factory settings (Factory Reset):
TV powers ON automatically  The TV powers ON by itself while it is in standby mode.
CAUSE: After the completing a standby S/W upgrade, the TV sent a POWER IR Key to the CEC device.
Random / Intermittent Power Cycles (Resets)
SYMPTOM: The TV powers OFF and ON by itself.
1) Replace the main PCB ONLY IF the TV was manufactured in March, 2013 or earlier and the serial number is listed in Contact Samsung (Menu > Support > Contact Samsung). 
If the Main board has been replaced or the serial number is not displayed in Menu>Support>Contact Samsung, DO NOT REPLACE the main board.
2) Update the TV’s S/W to the latest version.
Screen Mirroring does not work after mobile device was upgraded to Android version 4.3.
SYMPTOM: After updating Android OS from version 4.1 to 4.3 (Jelly Bean), mobile device cannot connect to the TV via Screen Mirroring.
How to check Android version on the mobile device
Go to Settings  'About device' Menu  Android Version.
The new function board cable does not fit the old main board.
SYMPTOM: The new function board cable (yellow color) comes with safety locks that do not fit the old main board.
Cut the safety locks flat so the connector fits the main board. The connector itself is compatible with the main board.
SUBJECT: There TV displays a Black Bar, No Picture, or a Dark Picture
SYMPTOMS: The TV may display a black bar, no picture, or the picture may appear darker.
1) Check the connection between SMPS and Panel. 
If the connector is not fully seated, reseat the connector, and then make sure it is connected firmly.
2)Replace the Panel if:
The TV displays black bar(s) or The TV is on but displays no picture and the Standby LED is ON
The TV has no picture and the Standby LED is Off.
Using theFactory Remote
Press the Info and Factory Buttons sequentially on a Factory Remote.
(Part Number: AA81-00243A)
If the TV has the Universal Remote setup implemented, the Info button works as an Info button for the connected device.
Using regular IR Remote
Press the Mute - 1 - 8 -2 - Power On buttons sequentially on a normal Remote while the TV is off.
If you access the Factory Menu with a normal Remote, some menus are deactivated.
The options you must change are "Type".
Black : I should not be possible to adjust or change that does not require a change item
Blue : Adjustment Services for the corresponding
Red : Items that are secured.
Software Upgrade can be performed by downloading the. latest frmware from samsung.com to a USB memory device.
Current Version - The software already installed in the TV.
Software is represented as ‘Year/Month/Day_Version’.
1. Click the "MENU" key in remote controller.
2. Select "Support" menu.
3. Locate the menu cursor "Software Upgrade" menu.
4. Click the "INFO" key.
Check the Main SW and Micom version.
1. Store the sw program named "T-MST12AKUC" in USB memory stick.
Conn2. Click the "MENU" key in Remote Controller.
3. Select "Support" menu.
Locate the menu cursor "Software Update" menu act the USB.
 Wait for upgrade complete.
 Check the Software Version.
Factory Mode Adjustments
If you replace the main board with new one, change the factory option as well.
Version of the software is written in 0002.
If you don’t have Factory remote control, can’t control some menus
Method of Color Calibration (AV)
1. Apply the NTSC Lattice (N0. 3) pattern signal to the AV IN 1 port.
2. Press the Source key to switch to “AV1” mode.
3. Enter Service mode.
4. Select the “ADC” menu.
5. Select the “AV Calibration” menu.
6. In “AV Calibration Off” status, press the “►” key to perform Calibration.
7. When Calibration is complete, it returns to the high-level menu.
8. You can see the change of the “AV Calibration” status from Failure to Success.
Method of Color Calibration (Component)
1. Apply the 720p Lattice (N0. 6) pattern signal to the Component IN 1 port.
2. Press the Source key to switch to “Component1” mode.
3. Enter Service mode.
4. Select the “ADC” menu.
5. Select the “Comp Calibration” menu.
6. In “Comp Calibration Off” status, press the “ ►” key to perform Calibration.
7. When Calibration is complete, it returns to the high-level menu.
8. You can see the change of the “Comp Calibration” status from Failure to Success.
Method of Color Calibration (HDMI)
1. Apply the 720p Lattice (N0. 6) pattern signal to the HDMI1/DVI IN port.
2. Press the Source key to switch to “HDMI1” mode.
3. Enter Service mode.
4. Select the “ADC” menu.
5. Select the “HDMI Calibration” menu.
6. In “HDMI Calibration Off” status, press the “►” key to perform Calibration.
7. When Calibration is complete, it returns to the high-level menu.
8. You can see the change of the “HDMI Calibration” status from Failure to Success.
White Ratio (Balance) Adjustment
1. You can adjust the white ratio in factory mode (1:Calibration, 3:White-Balance).
2. Since the adjustment value and the data value vary depending on the input source, you have to adjust these in CVBS, Component 1 and HDMI 1 modes.
3. The optimal values for each mode are configured by default. It varies with Panel’s size and Specifcation

Use other Equipment only after comparing the result with that of the Master equipment.

How to Check the Software Version: Use the Main Menu
How to Upgade Software and Micom
Insert a USB drive containing the frmware upgrade downloaded from samsung.com into the TV. Be careful not to disconnect the power or remove the USB drive while upgrades are being applied. 
The TV will turn off and turn on automatically after completing the frmware upgrade. Please check the firmware version after the upgrades are complete (the new version will have a higher number than the older version). 
When software is upgraded, video and audio settings you have made will return to their default (factory) settings. It is recommend you to write down your settings before beginning firmware update. After update is completed, restore your previous settings.
