These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

  • The identification of errors within this chassis is triggered in one of two ways.  Busy or Device failure to respond to II2 IC.
TO ENTER INTO ERROR TABLE
  • Turn On the main Power switch of the TV set.
  • Program Remove commander for Operation in Service mode. 
  • Press 'AUX/VIDEO' 'AUX/VIDEO > MENU' on the remote commander.
  • Using the remote commander, scroll to the 'Error' item using the down arrow key.
  • Table-2 will be displayed.

[Programming the remote commander for Operation in Service Mode]
  1. Press & Hold the left Mode Select button, until the VCR and DVD LEDs flash.
  2. Press '99999'.  The TV LED should light.  The remote commander is now set to Service Mode.
  3. To return the remote commander to normal operation mode, repeat step-1, then press '00000'.  The TV LED should light.  The remote commander is now set to normal mode.
[Setting the TV into Service Mode]
  1. Program the remote commander for operation in ServiceMode as described above.
  2. Turn On the TV main Power switch.
  3. Press the 'Aux/Video' standby button on the remote controller Twice.  "TT" will appear in the upper right corner of the screen.  Other status information will also be displayed.
  4. Press "Menu" on the remote commander to obtain the service mode screen.
  5. Move the corresponding adjustment item using the Up / Dn arrow buttons on the remote control.
  6. Press (>) button to enter into the required menu item.
  7. Press 'Aux/Video' button on the remote control to QUIT the service mode, after all adjustments have been done.
  8. Switch the TV set OFF and then switch it ON again.

DISASSEMBLY
  • Remove the rear cover after removing all the fixing screws.
  • Before completely removing the rear cover, disconnect the speaker connector located on the inside of the set.
  • To remove lift main bracket rear slightly and slide the chassis away from the beznet.  Ensure that the interconnecting leads are released from their purse locks to prevent damage being caused.
  • When refitting the chassis, ensure that the main bracket is located in the baznet guide slots before sliding the chassis forward.  
  • Service position.
  • To remove 'G' board, release the marked clips.
  • To remove 'D2' board, remove screws and release marked clips.
  • 'D' board removal.
LINE OUTPUT TRANSFORMER OR FLY BACK TRANSFORMER. [LOT] OR [FBT]
