These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

BEKO - P7 PDP TV SERVICE MODE and ADJUSTMENTS



TO ACTIVATE SERVICE MENU

  • When the Menu is on the screen, press [9=>3=>0=>1] on the remote control.  This will activate service menu.
Service Menu Structure.  
Display item has 7 options.
  1. Panel:  Panel option gives information about the current panel resolution.  It is a read-only option and cannot be set.
  2. Factory Mode:  Used during production, keep "Off"
  3. Scart Pre-scale:  This option sets the pre-scale values for input sounds entering the SCART input of the MSP (Micronas Sound Processor).  Changing this value can adjust the level of input sound going to loudspeakers for all sources except the tuners.  The range is between [0 to 100].
  4. NICAM preacale:  This option sets the prescale values of NICAM standard sounds for tuner inputs.  Changing this value can adjust the level of output sounds going to loudspeakers for NICAM sounds entering the analogue sound input of MSP.  The range is between [0 to 100].
  5. FM | AM Prescale:  This option sets the prescale values for FM/AM standard sounds for tuner inputs.  Changing this value can adjust the level of input sound going to loudspeakers for FM/AM sound entering the analogue sound input of MSP.  The range is between [0 to 100].
  6. AGC adjust:  This option sets the input voltage going to IF decoder.  Changing this value can adjust this voltage for optimum performance .  The range is between [0 to31].
  7. R|G|B Brightness/Contrast:  These are used for colour adjustments.  The range is between [0 to 225]
CALIBER

Caliber has nine options.
  1. Video Format:  This option force the video to desired format.  Selectable formats are [Auto | PAL | NTSC and SECAM]
  2. Colorspace:  This option gives information about the video input colorspace input to PW181 IC.  Do not change this value unless an error ocured in the colours displayed.
  3. Test Pattern :  This option activates internal pattern of PW181 IC.  There are 3 choices.  None | Vertical Bars | Solid Colour.  None; will deactivate internal pattern.  Vert bars; activates the bar pattern for selected colour component.  Solod Colour; activates the solid pattern for one colour selected in colour component and also can change the level of colour by solid field level. 
  4. Colour Components:  This option select the colour for the internal pattern of PW181 IC.  There are 4 choices.  All | Red | Green | Blue.  If select 'all', a white pattern will be displayed.  For all other choices, respective colour patterns will be displayed.
  5. Self Field Level:  This option adjusts the level of colours for test pattern.  The range is between [1 to64].
  6. Initial ATS:  This option will either enable or disable the initial set-up for the TV.  Setting this option to ON, the TV will open from the Quick Set-up menu.  Setting this option OFF, will disable this option.
  7. Factory Reset:  This option executes a reset operation for the NVRAM.  Pressing OK, when this option is selected will erase the NVRAM and will load the default values to NVRAM.
  8. dpms:  This option sets the Power Option for the TV.  Setting this option to ON, the TV will switch to the last state for power on transition.  Setting this to OFF, will disable this option, and the tV will always switch to stand-by state while power-on transition.
  9. OSD time out:  This option sets the OSD time out for main menu structure.  Selections are 5/15/and 60 seconds.  The default is 60 seconds.
