These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

SAMSUNG LED TV troubleshooting
THE LEDs ON THE FRONT PANEL DO NOT WORK WHEN CONNECTING THE POWER CORD.

THE [SMPS] RELAY DOES NOT WORK WHEN CONNECTING THE POWER CORD.
UNIT APPEARS TO BE DEAD.

If the IP relay or the LEDs on the front panel do not work, when connecting the Power cord if the cables are improperly connected on the Main Board or SMPS is not functioning.  If this is the condition, check the following.

  1. Check the internal cable connection status inside the unit.
  2. Check the fuses of each part.
  3. Replace the main board.
  • Is lamp back light OFF and Power indicator LED On?  If No, Change 18P power cable.
  • If Yes; does the proper standby DC A5V appear at TP-A5?  If No, change the main assy.
  • If Yes, does the proper main DC B13V, B5V appear at TP-B13V, B5V?  If No, Change the Main assy.
  • If Yes; does proper DC A3.3V appear at TP-A3.3V? If No, change the main Assy.
  • If yes; Does proper B3.3V, B1.8V, SPI_3.3V appear at BD216(B3.3V), BD212(DDR B1.8V) TP-SPI_A3.3V?  If No, change the Main Assy.
  • If yes; does proper DC B13V appear at LVDS  connector  pin 1 of 5 of T'Con board? If NO,Change T'Con board,  except for 4000 series.
  • If yes; A power is supplied to the set? If No, Check an other function.  No picture part. Check and replace LCD panel.
Make sure to disconnect the power before working on IP board.
NO VIDEO [ANALOG PC SIGNAL]
Audio is normal, but no picture is displayed on the screen.
  1. Check PC source.
  2. Check the Arsenal, check Chelsea.
  3. This may happen when the LVDS cable connecting the Main Board and Panel is disconnected.
NO VIDEO:  [HDMI 1.2.3.4 DIGITAL SIGNAL]
  • Check HDMI source.  
  • Check HDMI switch. Check the SX-1.
  • Thie may happen when the LVDS cable connecting the Main Board and panel is disconnected.
NO VIDEO [TUNER_CVBS]
  • Check the Tuner CVBS source.
  • Check the Tuner. Check the SX1.
  • This may happen when the LVDS cable connecting the Main Board and the Panel is disconnected.
NO VIDEO [TUNER DTV]
  • Check DTV source.
  • Check the Tuner. Check SX1.
  • This may happen when LVDS cable connecting the Main board and the Panel is disconnected.
NO VIDEO. [VIDEO CBVS]
  • Check the Video CBVS source.
  • Cehck the SX1.
  • This may happen when LVDS cable connecting the Main Board and the Panel is disconnected.
NO VIDEO [COMPONENT]
  • Check the component source.
  • Check the SX-1.
NO SOUND [VIDEO NORMAL]
  • Check the speaker connections.
  • The sound processing part of the Main board not functioning.
  • Speaker defect.
ENTERING FACTORY SERVICE MODE

To enter service mode; with factory remote control.

[POWER OFF => INFO => MENU => MUTE => POWER ON]

To enter service mode using customer remote control.
  1. Turn the Power OFF to set the TV to standby mode.
  2. Press the remote buttons [POWER OFF=>INFO=>MENU=>MUTE] TO TURN ON the set.
  3. The set turns ON and enters service mode.  This might take approx: 20 seconds.
  4. Press Power Button to exit and store data in memory.  If you fail to enter service mode, repeat 1 & 2 above
