These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

SERVICE MODE ENTRY

  • Press "Menu" button on the remote control.
  • Press digit keys [4>7>2>5] in sequence to enter service mode.
Service Mode Screen.
  • Use the 'Cursor Up' | Cursor Dn' buttons to move between the registers. 
  • User 'Cursor Left | Cursor Right' buttons to change the data value to selected item.
  • To "EXIT' Service Mode, switch OFF the set by main Power Switch.
  • It is not required to memorize the adjustments.  Data are stored automatically. 
USING COLORED BUTTONS
  • By using four colored buttons on the remote control, different features or adjsut may be accessed.
AVL
  • Press the 'RED' button to activate or deactivate the Automatic Volume Level {AVL} between different broadcast channels.
GEOMETRY MENU
  • Press 'GREEN' button in order to change from the main service menu to the Geometry Menu.
  • To return to Main Menu, it should be pressed "Menu" button.
  • In the bottom area of this menu, it can be seen 'AUTO'.  By pressing 'WIDE MODE' button, it changes to (4:3) or (16:9) format.  
  • To perform the 'Geometry' adjustments, select the most suitable option.
Auto, entering 4:3 or 16:9 signal and proceeding with adjustments as below.

SCREEN ADJUSTMENT

  • Press the 'Yellow' button in order to prepare the system for screen adjustments.  [Vertical scan disable].  Adjust horizontal line, via screen pot-meter, as thin as possible.  To return to main menu Menu button should be pressed.

AUTO PROGRAMMING SYSTEM SETUP

It is necessary let the TV set in the program number that will appear for the first time, because the A.P.S does not preset this selection.

  • Enter Service Mode.
  • Access TXT1 register by Cursor Up | Cursor Dn.
  • Press '7' button on the remote control in order to activate the auto programming system.
  • Exit the service mode, by the 'Menu' button.
  • Switch the TV OFF, using the mains switch.
EEPROM INITIALIZATION

If the EEPROM IC {IC500} is replaced, it will come fully programmed, and there fore it is not necessary to initialize the new device.  In some circumstances the EEPROM may become corrupted in use i.e. static discharge of lightning strike.  If this happens the EEPROM has to be replaced.

HOTEL MODE FUNCTIONS

  • The Hotel Mode deactivates Install and Program features from the Main Features Menu.  It is necessary to program the channel setting, tuning and storing, after this feature have deactivated.
  1. Enter the Service Mode.
  2. Access to OP4 register by Cursor Up/Dn.
  3. Press [4] button on the remote control in order to activate the Hotel Mode.
  4. Exit the service mode by "Menu" button.
  5. Enter again the Service Mode but a new sequence of numbers [1>3>2>5] consecutively.  The following On-Screen display appears.


  • Activate the Hotel Mode as the above top picture.
  • Proceed with the required volume limit.
  • Exit service mode
