REPAIRING AND NOT THROWING AWAY

Richtige Fernseher haben Röhren!

Richtige Fernseher haben Röhren!

In Brief: On this site you will find pictures and technical information about Service Modes, Circuit Diagrams, Firmware Update procedure, Disassemble procedure, Universal remote control set-up codes, Troubleshooting and more....

If you go into the profession, you will obtain or have access to a variety of tech tips databases HERE IT IS Master Electronics Repair !.

These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution. In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Happy repairing!
Today, the West is headed for the abyss. For the ultimate fate of our disposable society is for that society itself to be disposed of. And this will happen sooner, rather than later.

PROGRAM RE-WRITING PROCEDURE
PREPERATION
  1. PC with parallel port (printer port)
  2. Parallel cable (Straight type)
  3. Jig PWB (PAL JIGUIF-001)
  4. 20-pin cable Application software for the rewriting program (IAP Writer)
  5. Rewriting program.
  • Set the PC printer port to EPP or ECP from BIOS setting.  (Settings are different depending on PCs; it is desirable that a skilled person performs this operation.)
  • Install the application software for the rewriting program (IAP Writer) into the PC.
  • Connect the PC and the jig PWB with the parallel cable.
  • Rewrite the program.
  1. Unplug the AC cord during power up.
  2. Connect the jig PWB and the main PWB with the cable (20-pin).  (Connect P5601 of the jig PWB and P2001 of the main PWB.)
  3. Start the application software for the REWRITING program (IAP Writer).  (If start-up is impossible, recheck the procedure.)
  4. While holding down the TV system reset button, plug in the AC cord to turn on the power.  LED on the jig PWB lights up.  Jig PWB connection is automatically detected and the system is shifted to the program rewriting mode.
  5. The rewriting program (IAP Writer) on the PC dictates writing. (Writing conditions are indicated on the IAP Writer.)
  6. Wait until Step 5 is ended.
  7. When ended, exit the IAP Writer.
  8. Turn off the AC power of the unit. (Unplug the AC cord.)
  9. Remove the cable from the jig PWB and the main PWB.
  10. Turn on the Ac power of the unit to check for operation.  (If INPUT SELECT and volume control are available, rewriting is completed.).
ENTERING AND EXITING ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE
  • Before entering the adjustment process mode, press the "RESET” button or adjust the menu image to reset the AV position.
  • Unplug the AC power cord of the running TV to force off the power.
  • While holding down "VOL (-)" and "TV/VIDEO" keys at once, plug in the AC power cord to turn on TV. The letter K appears on the upper left of the screen.
  • Next, hold down the "VOL (DN)" and "CH (UP)" keys at once. Multiple lines of blue characters appearing onscreen indicate that the unit is now in the adjustment process mode. If you fail to enter this mode (the display is the same as normal startup), retry the procedure.
  • To exit the adjustment process mode after adjustment is completed, unplug the AC cord to force off the power. (When the power is turned off with the remote control, once plug the AC cord and after approx. 10 seconds plug it in again.).
Caution: Use due care in handling the information described here lest the users should know how to enter the adjustment process mode. If the setting is tampered with in this mode, unrecoverable system damage may result.
