These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

HOW TO UNLOCK THOMSON DVD PLAYERS



THOMSON DPL900DV & DPL910VD MODELS
In DVD mode, without a disc insereted, turn ON the player.
The set will dissplay "No Disc".  Now enter [26862200], by using digit keys of the remote control.
Press the button for the desired Region you want to set.
The set will display "Reading".  Has been set to the desired reigion.
THOMSON 24WT25UG
Power ON the set.
Open the disc tray.
Press and hold [Open: Next & OK]  buttons simoultaneously on the front panel of the player.
Release the buttons, when the disc tray closes.
THOMSON DPL-909VD.
Turn ON the set without a disc.
Press and Hold Down 'Select" button on the player.
Using [Vol -ve & Vol+ve] buttons,select [0]/ "Zero" to make it codefree.
THOMSON DTH195E_DTH212_DTH213_DTH231_DTH231E
Turn ON the player,  If there is a disc inside, eject it and close the tray.
Wait until the Menu Pop Up on the screen.
Press [1 6 7 1 9 0], and turn the player OFF and then ON.
THOMSON - DTH210_DTH210E_DTH210U_DTH2100_DTH2200_DTH4600_DTH4601
Without a disc inside, switch ON the set.
Press digits [1,6,7] on the remote control.
Press "Zero" button on the remote control to make the set code free.
THOMSON DTH-3300
There are different model numbers of remote control supplied with this set.  Check the model number of the remote with your player have. Note it first.
*  Power ON the set.
* Press these buttons on the remote control, according to remote model.
Model RC TN500EX_RC T503 => Shift-Random.
Model RC 7AS06 => with disc tray opend press Shift-Random.
Model RC TN520EX_NSX D606_NSX T506_RC 6A02_NSX 330_RC T506_ZR 88 => "Random"
Model RC 8AT02_[Shift + 1].  The disc tray will open, and "Adjust" will be displayed.
Model NSX S303_NSX X505_NSX S707 => Shift-Program.
Model RC 8AS04 => Random-repeat.
* Press 'Setup".
* Change the parential lock code [7777] to [3521].
* Set the [Parential Lock Level] to [1].
* Turn OFF the player by its power switch [Mains], and switch it ON.
* Insert a DVD which has burned in Code-1, and clos the tray.
* Enter 'Parential Lock Passoword" [3521].
* Go to 'Setup' and disable [Parential Lock]
THOMSON DTH 220E
Turn on the player, and eject if any disc inside.
Unplug the player from AC mains socket, and replug into it after 30 seconds. [Cold Start].
Press [1,6,7] from remote control.
Enter region [1-6, 0 = Code free]
THOMSON DVD 430 - DVD 431
Press 'Menu" button.
Enter [1,6,7].
Press 'Mute" button.
THOMSON DTH 7000_DTH 7000E_DTH 7500E_DTH7500U
Press eject button to open the disc tray and press 'Setup' button.
Enter [82139], using digit keys, and press "OK" button.
THOMSON DTH 5400
Press Eject button and open the disc tray.
Press 'Stop" button.
Enter [1,9,9,9], and turn the set OFF.
THOMSON DTH 4000_DTH 4200
When the the set is in "Standby" mode, Press and Hold [Play & Stop]  buttons, and switch the set ON.
Press "Repeat 3,8,7,6,7". 
(02) will be displayed.
Press key for desired region.
Press 'Open".
Press "Standby".
THOMSON DTH 3700_DTH 5200
Power the set ON.
Press and Hold [Stop & Play] buttons simoultaneously.
Turn ON the player.
The "Language selection" will be displayed.
Release the Keys.
Select the desired language.
Press "Repeat" button.
Enter current remote control
RC 1 => 29334
RC 2 => 38767
RC 3 => 56732
RC 4 => 76884
RC 5 => 53814
RC 6 => 24462
Current RC will be displayed.
Enter [9] for code free.
Open disc tray.
Switch OFF.
