These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution.In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

SHARP LC20A2M LCD TV SERVICE ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES


The product have been factory adjusted to optimum settings.  If by any change of any settings gets out of position or when a part has been replaced, follow these procedures.
Use the specific AC adapter or a regulated DC power supply.
AC adapter:  UADP-0219CEZZ
DC power supply:  13V, 4.2A (Monitor power 3.6A:  audio amplifier power 1.0A)
Adjusting the checker:  Turning On the Power (getting initialized) --> Selecting the model number and screen size --> Transferring the model specified Data to the setting EEPROM IC --> Calling adjustment process mode --> +B adjustment.
Making finish adjustment Process Mode:  Calling adjustment process mode --> adjusting the counter bias, TV contrast and White Balance [W/B].
Calling adjustment process mode
  • Set key-4 [pin 81 of IC 2001] and key-5 [pin 82 of IC 2001] to the L level and turn ON power.
  • Hold Down both the "TV/Video & Menu" keys at once and turn On main power.  Make sure "K" appears at the top left of the screen, which means the set is in inspection process mode.  Then press the "Ch Dn & Vol -ve" keys at once.  To 'Quit' this mode, just turn off the main power.  The mode can be turned off with the power switch either on the set or the remote controller.  
Key operation in the adjustment process mode:
  1. Select an actual receiving channel with 'Ch Up / Ch Dn" button.  Short push-in:  Channels are selected one after another.  Long-push:  Channels are skipped up to next receivable channel.
  2. All the main items can be adjusted one by one with "Menu", "Ch UP/Ch DN and Vol UP / Vol DN" keys on the set or by remote control.
  3. The "Menu" key serves to toggle between adjustment items (the next item is selected).
  4. The "TV/VIDEO" key is also used to toggle between adjustment items.  
  5. Whichever item is selected, pressing "Auto Preset" key selects the item at the top on the next page.  
  6. Whichever item is selected, pressing 'manual Memory" key selects the item at the top of the line on the same page.  Using 'Volume + /- " keys the settings of a selected item cab be adjusted.
  7. Using [Ch Up / Ch Dn & Vol Up / Vol Dn] keys, move the cursor vertically and horizontally, respectively.  Use the "12" key to enter the setting.  With an item selected, cursor moves to its setting.  Using Volume + / - keys the setting of the item selected can be changed first for the left side.  A new setting is now entered with the "12" key.  Using Volume + / - keys again, the right side setting can also be changed
