Any repair usually begins with an external inspection. Sometimes, based on visible changes in the components of the device, it is possible to draw some conclusions and determine the direction of further troubleshooting even before the necessary measurements are taken. Useful tips can include swollen capacitors, ring cracks formed in the soldered terminals, a charred paint layer on the resistors, signs of overheating of the board, and many other external signs that are familiar to experienced repairmen.
