REPAIRING AND NOT THROWING AWAY

Richtige Fernseher haben Röhren!

In Brief: On this site you will find pictures and technical information about Service Modes, Circuit Diagrams, Firmware Update procedure, Disassemble procedure, Universal remote control set-up codes, Troubleshooting and more....

If you go into the profession, you will obtain or have access to a variety of tech tips databases HERE IT IS Master Electronics Repair !.

These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution. In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Happy repairing!

DIAGNOSING A BROKEN / CRACKED LCD / LED TELEVISION SCREEN

Accidentally hit the screen? Are there any cracks? If your TV screen is severely cracked and the damage has penetrated beyond that, then it is deep enough to have damaged the LCD, LED or Plasma. If this is your case, then it may cost more to repair your TV than to replace it.

Broken TV LCDscreen Broken LED TV matrix
The screens of modern LCD and LED TVs in most cases do not have an additional protective glass, except for the standard two components of the display, between which liquid crystals are placed to form the image. The thickness of the outer glass of the display of the middle diagonals is measured in tenths of a millimeter. For comparison, the thickness of a standard window glass is 3 mm.
The necessary margin of safety of the structure is achieved by the quality of the glass, and if the surface of the panel (matrix) is not subjected to impact or excessive pressure on the screen, mechanical damage usually does not occur on its own.

But, nevertheless, one often hears about the following complaints from the owners:
- I watched football, launched it in the heat with the remote control into the TV - a "web" formed at the site of the impact and stopped showing part of the screen at all. Can you repair it?
- The child was playing and hit the ball on the screen. Send stripes and distortion, it is impossible to watch. Can I fix it?
- The TV fell off the wall. Turned on - there is sound, there is no image, there are stripes and cracks on the screen. What to do?

The answer in all similar cases is unambiguous - it is impossible to restore the panel and it needs to be replaced.
Sometimes a random hit on the screen with a children's toy is enough and the TV can fall into the category of unrepairable ones for the reason that it is impossible to find a replacement on some panels, or its price along with transportation and installation may be more than the price of the TV.
The cost of replacing the panel can be clarified at the nearest Authorized Service Center (ASC) for a specific brand for your TV model. Typically, the addresses and phone numbers of such dealerships for all regions are indicated in the documentation that was issued upon purchase - warranty cards or user instructions.
Commercial workshops usually do not practice replacing LCD panels with new ones due to the unprofitability of such repairs, but may have a supply of components, including used panels.
Calling the nearest TV repair shops in the hope of finding a working SECOND-HAND matrix for a specific TV model will in any case not be superfluous before the TV is simply thrown away.
Often, many have a question. Why can’t you fix it? After all, the glass itself is intact and there are no visible external cracks, just stripes and interference ...

The fact is that the inner glass is often damaged, and with it the LCD crystals and the compounds between them. In any case, it is impossible to restore the internal structure of the matrix in this case by any even the most modern means of repair and it is necessary to replace the panel.
Repair of LCD panels was not originally provided for by manufacturers. Also, there are no instructions, diagrams and spare parts for their repair. The experience of the craftsmen and the presence of a warehouse of spare parts from used TV sets sometimes help to somehow rectify the situation. All initiatives to restore the functionality of LCD panels come directly from repairmen. In some cases, workshops may offer replacement glass from another panel that is structurally similar to yours, or other options to get out of this deadlock, for example, buy a non-repairable TV for spare parts at a reasonable price.
In conclusion, I would like to note that in some models of TVs an additional protective glass is used, which may crack from impacts, but the display glass and crystals will remain unharmed.
In such cases, broken glass can be replaced, or simply removed so that it does not interfere with viewing. But such televisions (with safety glasses) are extremely rare on sale. In addition, few buyers know about their existence and are puzzled in advance by the additional strength of the screen. Usually, when choosing a TV, they are guided by other criteria.
 Cracked TV Screen Repair Cost
Unless you are trying to fix a TV from the ’80s or earlier, cracked TV screen repair is not feasible; the entire display panel must be replaced instead. The cost of a replacement TV display panel is more than the cost of buying a new TV, and that’s before labor and other service costs.
Cracked or damaged TV screen repair is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

TV Screen Replacement Cost

The cost of TV screen replacement is generally the same as or more than the cost of buying a new TV. Therefore, replacing a broken or malfunctioning TV screen is not considered a viable option. If the TV is under the manufacturer’s warranty, the manufacturer may replace the entire unit.
TV manufacturers do keep replacement TV screen panels on hand to support products under warranty in case the screen malfunctions, due to manufacturer defect.
If you still want to replace a damaged or malfunctioning TV screen, your best option is to find a used replacement panel or a broken TV of the same model on which the screen is still functional. You might find one on eBay, and you can hire a technician to change out the panel.
Why can’t you fix it?

The simple answer is no, it is not practical, LCD panels are made as a package in a factory and once the glass is broken they are defunct.
Also replacing a screen is usually uneconomical because as the most expensive part of the display and because it needs calibration, the effort required to replace the panel is normally more than the cost of a new TV.
