In Brief: On this site you will find pictures and technical information about Service Modes, Circuit Diagrams, Firmware Update procedure, Disassemble procedure, Universal remote control set-up codes, Troubleshooting and more....

If you go into the profession, you will obtain or have access to a variety of tech tips databases HERE IT IS Master Electronics Repair !.

These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.
As always, when you get stuck, checking out a tech-tips database may quickly identify your problem and solution. In that case, you can greatly simplify your troubleshooting or at least confirm a diagnosis before ordering parts.

Happy repairing!

General repair guidelines for TV LCD LED
If the TV does not turn on, no indicators on its front panel are lit or blinking. Also, if the TV does not respond to the remote control and buttons, it does not make any sounds or any signs of operability when it is turned on, there is a certain chance that the 715G6934-P01-000-002H power supply module is defective and needs repair. Sometimes with similar manifestations a problem can only occur in the absence of standby power. When diagnosing and repairing the power supply, after replacing the swollen capacitors of the secondary rectifier filters (if any), you must first check the mains fuse. When it is broken, the power elements of the TK8A65D transistors and rectifier bridge diodes should be checked for avalanche (thermal) breakdown.
Power switches in pulsed power supplies (SMPS) fail extremely rarely for no reason and, if they are broken, it is necessary to look for a malfunction in the stabilization circuits by checking electrolytic capacitors, semiconductor devices, and resistors in the primary circuit. The reason may be a malfunction of the PF6003AHS, AOZ3015AI PWM controller chip, which can only be checked by replacing it with a new or obviously working one.
If the PHILIPS 40PFT4100 does not have an image, but there is sound, the backlighting LEDs of the TPT400LA-HN02.S Rev-SS01B code 018 panel or their power converter - LED driver may be malfunctioning.
The lack of backlight often occurs due to an open circuit in the LED circuit. There is a need for disassembling the panel and checking the LEDs themselves, as well as the same contact connections in the connectors and rations of the terminals.
It is impossible to detect a break in the LED line without disassembling the panel with a simple multimeter. The LEDs are connected in series and to open their transitions, a voltage of several tens of volts is required. Ideally, a current source is suitable for such purposes. You can open the panel and check each LED separately. Typically, Chinese multimeters light up a single 3-volt LED, if you connect the probes in the forward direction to it (red probe to the anode, black to the cathode). In dual 6-volt LEDs, the PN junction of its emergency zener diode can serve as an indicator of health. In the event of a LED malfunction, its zener diode will either be cut off or broken into short-circuit.
If the motherboard 715G6947-M01-000-004Y is faulty, first of all it is necessary to check all the linear stabilizers and power converters of its chips, and also, if necessary, update the software (software). Sometimes you can check the health of MB only by replacement.

If PHILIPS 40PFT4100 has no picture but has sound, often the display backlight of TPT400LA-HN02.S is simply not working.
In such cases you can see a faintly visible image when external light hits the screen.

To replace the LEDs requires disassembly of the LCD panel TPT400LA-HN02.S - the process requiring the master of experience and expertise. We do not recommend to perform such works by yourself to owners of TV sets and craftsmen who have no experience in LCD panel repair

If there is no image, but backlighting works - the screen becomes slightly lighter when the TV is turned on, and in the open TV you can see the light through the holes in the body of the panel.
In this case the panel may be defective - damage to the strips, cables, for example, as a consequence of moisture after an unsuccessful washing of the screen, the T-CON board (Timing Controller) may be defective. But quite often the MainBoard 715G6947-M01-000-004Y is defective, also software failure is possible.
Then first it is necessary to check the panel power supply voltage, fuses on the T-CON board, as well as the supply and reference voltages of the column and line drivers - VGH, VGL, Vcom.
If these measurements are within normal limits, you need to trace by oscilloscope the LVDS signals from MainBoard 715G6947-M01-000-004Y, as well as synchronizing signals to driver stubs.

Filled or unsuccessfully washed LED TV screens can be restored in about half of the cases, usually, if there is no significant damage to the panel stubs and slats.

In some cases, to repair the MB board (SSB), it may be necessary to replace the chips - CPU: NT72453; NAND Flash: MX30LF1G08AA-T1 1Gb; SOUND: AUDIO AD87588-LG48NAY for new or obviously working. In cases where BGA technologies are used, defects are usually localized by the heating method.
If you suspect a malfunction of the ST42CS-2-E tuner, first of all, it is necessary to verify the correctness of the software, as well as the presence of the necessary voltage levels and data exchange pulses with the processor via the I2C bus at the corresponding tuner terminals.

It should be remembered! Attempts to repair the PHILIPS 40PFT4100 TV, in the absence of the necessary qualifications and experience, are categorically not recommended and are fraught with negative consequences, up to the complete non-repairability of the device!
