These are an excellent investment where the saying: 'time-is-money' rules. However, to learn, you need to develop a general troubleshooting approach - a logical, methodical, method of narrowing down the problem. A tech tip database might suggest: 'Replace C536' for a particular symptom. This is good advice for a specific problem on one model. However, what you really want to understand is why C536 was the cause and how to pinpoint the culprit in general even if you don't have a service manual or schematic and your tech tip database doesn't have an entry for your sick TV or VCR.

While schematics are nice, you won't always have them or be able to justify the purchase for a one-of repair. Therefore, in many cases, some reverse engineering will be necessary. The time will be well spent since even if you don't see another instance of the same model in your entire lifetime, you will have learned something in the process that can be applied to other equipment problems.

PHILIPS HTB5550G HOME THEATER BD PLAYER DISASSEMBLY, SOFTWARE UPDATE, POWER BOARD SCHEMATIC

Software upgrade
Build a folder name as UPG under root menu of USB device.
Copy the HTB5580.bin file(upgrade file) to the root menu of USB device.
Connect the USB device to HTS ,
Power on DUT,enter into HOME UI.
Enter into Setup menu select Advance >>Software upgrade>>USB. If the upgrade SW was found, it will prompt start upgrade SW, press OK select Start.
Don’t power off DUT .DUT will restart after SW upgrade completed.
Caution: The set must not be power off during upgrading, Otherwise the Main board will be damaged entirely.
Software version check
Power on DUT, enter into home ui,
Select set up >> advance >> version information
The main software is System SW,MCU version is Subsystem SW.
Restore DUT
Power on DUT,enter into HOME UI
Select set up >> advance >> Restore default settings
Disassembly procedure.
Open the top cover. Remove 4 screws on the back panel, dismantle the left and right baffle, then open the top cover.
Dismantle the loader. Open the CD tray and dismantle the CD door. Disconnect the connectors on the main board. Remove 2 screws beside the loader.
Dismantle the front panel.Release the WI-FI module from the panel. Disconnect all the connectors.
Release 4 buckles on the left,right and bottom sides.
Dismantle the front control board. Remove 4 screws on the board. Loosen the board and disconnect
2 connectors on the inner side of the board, then pull out the board.
Dismantle the power board. Remove 4 screws and 1 plane interpolation on the board.

Dismantle the amplifier board. Remove 2 screws on the board and 1 screw on the back panel.
Dismantle the main board. Remove 2 screws on the board and 3 screws on the back panel.
 Mechanical and Dismantling
Open the top cover. Remove 2 screws on the back panel. then open the cover.
Dismantle the front panel. Disconnect all the connectors on the boards. Release 4 buckles on the left, right and bottom sides.

Dismantle the power board. Remove 3 screws on the board and 2 screws on the back panel.

Dismantle the main board. Remove 2 screws on the board and 1 screw on the back panel.
